Hawken snapped up by Reloaded Games

After languishing in limbo for the better part of a year, mech shooter Hawken will apparently be returning, thanks to a deal with Reloaded Games. The APB: Reloaded publisher signed a deal late last week to buy Hawken from Meteor Entertainment.

“I’m pretty excited to now be able to announce that Reloaded Games is the new owner of Hawken,” Producer Joshua Clausen posted on Facebook. “It’s a seriously great honor to be a part of the Hawken story, and I want to see it thrive. Once the forums are up we will post more information (they’ve been taking a lot longer than I was hoping).”

Hawken’s future was highly uncertain following a string of business disasters in 2014. Developer Adhesive Games went bankrupt while publisher Meteor Entertainment was forced to close one of its offices last year and take its website offline. Hawken is currently available to play for free via Steam.

Great, now they will add weapons that cost 40$ to own them permanently. Or just 15$ for a month. Maybe also Friendlist extender too.

Someday, I’ll be able to play Hawken when they finally decide to support a bigger screen.

Cyroselle I’d kill for a Zone of Enders MMO and not jsut some lobby based arena shooter…or a macross/Robotech MMO.

The game could benefit from an explorable world IMO. The lobby shooter aspect felt too constricted.

Agreed. It felt more like a mobile suit or landmate, taking a page from Masumune Shirow’s Appleseed universe.

Agreed! I always wished there was an Armored Core available for PC.

Midgetsnowman WildarX Project Nimbus seems promising, but I refuse to reccomend anything on early access. Still, worth keeping an eye out for.

FineFineValentine Talk about putting the cart before the horse. Better release a full game before thinking forward, eh?

Oh wow, now that was a game I didn’t expect to read about on massively. Just yesterday I was digging around for news confirming whether or not this game died, good to see it hasn’t.
I’ll agree with @goldstariv , the game is for all intents and purposes a CoD/MMS reskin, but I’d be a liar if I didn’t say reskinning anything with mechs wasn’t gonna make me buy it.
We need more mech games on pc.

goldstariv I tried it at pax and felt the same way. Nothing about it really felt like a mech. It had cool graphics and a neat upgrade system and the fighting was ok but they needed to make it feel like you were inside a mech not just another shooter.

Greaterdivinity SaloMaya Well, having multiple harddrives kinds defeats the purpose of having to uninstall a game and I always looked at it and I was like “yeah, I enjoyed playing it, but I have newer games to play, I’ll get to it sometime down the line”. Also I honestly didn’t knew they kinda went broke, I somehow missed those news.

Hawken is an okay game, but I think it needs more mech mechanics.. As it stands right now, it is nothing more than a standard FPS. No limb damage, inertia and weight properties or heat management.. I never really felt like the pilot of anything, although the dash attacks were kinda fun.

An easy turnaround if they look at the “Heavy Gear” formula and make a fast paced game that involves mechs.

I remember being highly suspicious of Hawken’s management when I remember hearing so many plans for a cross-media property to be spun out of it before it had even launched. There were people out there who were invested purely to launch the graphic novels, sell the rights to Hollywood, etc. Hearing that Adhesive went out of business and Meteor Entertainment is dying too does not surprise me. It’s a shame because the game looked cool; the focus really should have been on the game (obviously)

Ohh god apb is not worth playing with the prices they charge for everything. Guess this game will be doing down the tubes too.

I really liked this game when it first came out. Beautiful graphics and some really good ideas for combat mechanics. I eventually grew bored though.
I’m glad that it is getting a second chance to shine. Unfortunately, in this case I think that maybe it just jumped out of the frying pan and into the fire. Time will tell.

I enjoyed this game for a little while. The hectic mech-on-mech action was more fun to me than the plodding, die-and-you’re-done for that round style of Mechwarrior Online.
But … the way the game was managed was sketchy. A fully fledged store-front with things like XP and Credit boost for your BETA game? Almost zero response from the devs to glaring bugs. If I didn’t enjoy the game so much I would have been furious.
Eventually you start to figure, “These guys have no intention of finishing this game …”  That’s when the fun disappeared and I stopped playing almost a year ago.
Lots needs to be fixed in HAWKEN. But a kernel of fun is definitely in there.

KenAddeh Reloaded Games was able to salvage APB after it was all but a dead title.  APB is still around for those that like that type of MMO.  Hopefully with good and stable management it will continue to be mech shooter people will want to play.  As to the concerns about paywall, only time will tell if that happens.

Xijit Yeah, the teams inexperience when it came to business was really obvious as time went on. They made a solid product, there just didn’t seem to be much in terms of a longterm business strategy to go with that product.

Ooooh, I loved the game but hated how it was managed.

barantorfwl WildarX Well MWO is based off a 31 year old game. Battletech from FASA.

KenAddeh I’m assuming this means the game will get some form of support and a sort of marketing push to try to bring it back around. It was a solid game, Adhesive just never really put too much of a marketing effort behind it so it kinda slowly lost players to the point where almost nobody was playing : /

“was forced to one of its offices last year”
I’m guessing a typo?

I have no idea what this is going to do to the game, but I hope they don’t start pushing guns and specific mechs behind paywalls. Not saying they will, but, never say never.

SaloMaya You still had it installed? Because last time I remember checking (a few months back) there was like, a whopping one match that had anyone in it.

Good news for Hawken fans, I might give it a try.  I think Wargaming.net could make an excellent mech battle game, i.e. World of Mechs!
