Elite: Dangerous starts Mac beta test on March 31st

Mac Elite: Dangerous fans who are feeling grounded while their PC brothers and sisters are cruising the stars will soon have their own chance to blast off. The team announced today that the Mac beta for the game will begin on March 31st.

This beta test will only be available to current beta holders and will require players to download a new launcher. The team posted recommended specs, although minimum specs have yet to be determined. Interestingly enough, Mac testers will play and exist on the same server as the glorious PC master race due to the need to test crossplay functionality.

Once change that’s coming for all players is that the bounty system will soon require a cooling-off period before a player can pay to remove it.

I wonder how it will run.   I get 20fps faster using Win 7 in boot camp than i do in OSX in GW2 and STO.   that’s with intelHD graphics of course.   Second Life runs just about as good in OSX as it does in Windows, though.

manzes BalsBigBrother the friendly fire rules have changed recently and it needs sustained fire to trigger the bounty.  If you accidentally clip a cop with a few blasts then you should be ok in most cases.

Hmm I should probably see about paying my bounty off. I don’t know how it got so big….who would of thought bringing cookies to orphans would cause such a ruckus.

Cool. Glad to see that Elite is expanding to other platforms.

I just think that it’s great that they are expanding Elite to MAC and Xbox One and even PS4 in the future… That’s what means “bringing the Space Sim again” in my opinion and this merit goes entirely for Elite: Dangerous.

BalsBigBrother People will have to have more care too, when shooting “police” accidentally, something that automatically puts a bounty on you. Actually, I think that the “cops” should put a bounty on you, only if you shoot them more, repeatedly, which would configurate an actual attack against them and not an accident… some kind of “colling off” period too on this matter too, because that situation + “colling off” period can make people pissed of with the game mechanic, since this “automatic bounty” in the first accidental shoot in the middle of a fight does not make sense…

You are there, in a middle of a battle to get a pirate, helping authorities and then, accidentally you shot them and have both a bounty against you and problems of reputation.

I don’t had the problem anymore, because I am having more care when authorities are “helping” me to get the bandit, but sometimes they simply fly in front of your beam laser and the fact that you are targeted as an enemy due that and lost reputation that sometimes takes a lot of effort to raise, sucks.

ooh that change to the bounty system will shake things up a lot.  I am glad that people who make a living on the wrong side of the law will have to live with the consequences of those actions at least for a little while as it should be really.  Might take my Vulture out for some player bounty hunting once this hits :-)
