Guild Wars 2’s Heart of Thorns stress test begins March 24

Guild Wars 2’s Heart of Thorns expansion stress testing is set to begin on March 24th, according to emails going out to lucky invitees yesterday and today. The tests are planned in two batches this coming Tuesday at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. EDT (not Thursday, as some invites suggested).

ArenaNet community rep Gaile Gray confirmed the invitations, telling players that more tests and more waves of invites are planned and warning everyone to be wary of phishing attempts.

[P]lease know we will be doing more tests in the future. If you want to boost your chances, sign up for the newsletter, as we draw some number of testers from that pool.
Also — this is important: Our invitation does not include links other than a link to this very forum (actually, the Heart of Thorns sub-forum). If you or someone you know gets an e-mail that suggests you use a link to access the test, or validate your accounts, or that is some other way heads you to a site other that our official site or forum, you should not click the link. After all, the e-mail itself contains the info you need to know to test, and the only link heads directly to and only to our forums.

Nyres Siphaed SixSixTrample that’s because those people are idiots. I once tried to join an LFG for Ascalonian Catacombs. I did have mostly zerk because I was on my power necro that I use for WvW. But they kicked me out anyway because I used this ring:

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Bagh_Nakh

Instead of the full zerk one. I promptly joined another group that was more relaxed and you know what? In the time it took our more relaxed group to do all 3 AC paths, that first group’s LFG was still up. All because they’re idiots who don’t realize that they could’ve done all 3 paths in less time than it took them to find the perfect zerk party that will shave all of 1 min from their run.

SixSixTrample Siphaed well it really depends if you’re running condi you would be having different gear than a full glass warrior etc. And build wise there is obviously a meta, but you don’t have to run the meta, I know I personally don’t yet I do quite well in spvp and WvW

Radfist there are also many events that are intertwined which each other and many ppl will play them at the same time. so they can adjust the scaling and find new bugs, that anet couldnt have found only with QA and testers. and maybe we will get to play the wvw map also. so that would be a first for them too…

btw: i’m in! :)

Radfist you say that, but their last patch changes introduced a huge number of crashing bugs for clients and the server… I am guessing they are stress testing those sorts of systems in addition to the different amounts of information that has to be processed for the servers.

Is anybody else wondering why this expansion needs a “stress test”? The server systems have been in place for nearly 3 years now.
Seems more like a promotional beta.

Siphaed SixSixTrample Last time I checked LFG is filled with Zerker builds only and groups that will evade bug trash mobs, and find ways to make bosses not do abilities via positioning like the spider boss in Ascalon Catacombs.  And heaven help you if your not an expert going into the explorable paths.  Your basically going to be a zerker or a zerker with some more healing, there is no tank and heals are pitiful.

There is much diversity in gear from ones that prioritize healing to ones that focus on condition damage. Many specs and get made for many situations and different things to do in the game.   Even the Celestial gear (a set that is jack of all stats, but master of none).
As for your second part, that’s kind of the point of the game.  Gear is a minor over previous tier so that there’s no major gear disparity amongst players.   It is more about SKILL than gear.  Your gear isn’t going to avoid that one-shot attack that a boss does, dodging it or setting up an active block skill will.     Such is the design of the game.

Siphaed SixSixTrample Is there a lot of diversity in end-game gear and spec? Is every warrior spec’d the same way? Aside from the best dye system in any game ever, is there more diversity in armor sets?

One thing I didn’t like was that my gear didn’t seem to mean much. Even if I got an upgrade, it always seemed so minor.

SixSixTrample Guild Wars 2 has dungeons (standard PvE), Fractals -randomized dungeons scaling in difficulty-, a level 1-80 cohesive story, shared mob credit, world bosses, mini world bosses,  public dungeons -Vexa’s lab, Forsaken Fortune, Provernic Crypt, and more-,  dynamic events, non-traditional questing, skin collections, achievements, hard content, easy content, in-between content, sPvP, world-vs-world siege style 3-way PvP,  WvW progression with Masteries, mini games, and so much more.

There is tons of content for GW2 to have and do.  It is just a matter of doing it.  This is not like other games where as soon as you reach top level you just grind developer specified content for continued gear chasing for higher stats.  No, it is about finding content that you enjoy to do and doing it.

Do you need green Jesus to hand hold you through another pedantic color by numbers fantasy story? I guess it’s easy to get lost when you get off the treadmill

The game feels alive. Way more alive than most MMOs. Also the combat. Also the community. Sometimes I’ll just stand in game and shoot the shit with my fellow Northern Shivergeeks. NSP!

SixSixTrample at this moment pvp only, there are 2 pvp type. Strcutred pvp ( arena 5 vs 5) and World vs World (RvR) mass pvp. With expansion they are adding new spvp mode and new wvw map. PVE is challenging but with expansion they want to change it.

I’m curious, what is keeping you all playing GW2? Is it purely the PvP? I haven’t looked at it in a long time, but I couldn’t really stay interested after hitting max level.
