Wurm Online player deified, founds a religion

What have you done with your online life lately? We bet you haven’t ascended to godhood and convinced other players to follow a new religion devoted to worshipping you. One Wurm Online player has done this, however, by becoming the first gamer in that MMO to start up a religion.

The team announced the news today: “There’s a new deity in Wurm — Tosiek has ascended and became the first player in the game to found his own religion! There are people converting already. Some quirks still remain and converting is a bit of a gamble.”

Becoming a full god in Wurm is a difficult and involved process, and once attained will put the player on the same level as the computer-controlled deities in the world.

Vexia Cyroselle I feel that way too, I just hadn’t been able to run it, back when I was more interested in the game. I think that once I’m done with this big move I’m going through and have more time I’d like to give it a go.

Estranged I have already started to poke holes in this religion.

Cyroselle Oh, neat. So he can’t like… smite his followers or something? :P I feel like I should take the time to sit down with Wurm at some point.

kalex716 Since there are already some followers I believe you can bless an altar. This part of the code was never tested, so… probably even Rolf doesn’t know what it’s going to be like :)

Also, Tosiek is supposed to be a BL. And also, only on Epic/Chaos :)

Btw you can already participate on missions from him.

Vexia He is supposed to be a Black Light god, so probably a wrathful one :-D

Do priests under the new religion get their own spells yet, like vynora, magranon, libela, and fo priests do?

If so, that seems really interested.

Can you bless altars and convert them to the new found deity?

Makes as much sense any other religion out there.

I’d like to add a 13th…
‘Whilst in thine party’s dungeon run, thou shalt not tread upon bad stuff hither nor yon’.

Vexia The direct influence of him being a god is that if you become a priest in his religion, you will probably have a new set/combination of enchantments/spells to use, a variation of the other religions.
He will also have influence through what is known as missions in Wurm (quests), but this is very complex matter.

Tamanous camelotcrusade   Yes there is an anpc avatar and it is 50 foot tall.  (see link). The player himself resides on a special planet with his rival npc gods.   http://forum.wurmonline.com/index.php?/topic/121588-avatar-of-tosiek/

That’s… actually awesome. Certainly not something I would ever get close to, but the fact it can be done is mind boggling.

I wonder if he’ll capitalize on it by selling his account for a bunch of $$.  It would be interesting to see.

Interesting. To anyone who played both: How does “ascension” in Wurm compare to the original Jedi unlock in SWG? Is it the same sort of mysterious and really obscure, difficult thing? Or is it more just a really, really long grind?

Oh, wow. I’m interested to know what kind of god Tosiek will be. Benevolent? Wrathful? Also, what are the extent of a god’s powers in Wurm?

I hope there are players named “Tom Cruise” and “John Travolta” who are among those converting to the hip, new religion :)

You actually touch upon systems I’d love to see in mmos. The option for your character to become so iconic from game play and social contributions that it can be considered to be converted into the lore and function as an npc. I’d also love a new school approach to large, open old school games that has some very challenging content with unique rewards only obtained through success but where failure is perma-death! Only the truly committed and those willing to risk it all apply. This would be 100% option of course and truly challenging.

As for Godhood … The one developer in Sota has a religion based on his character too.

Oops, missed the edit window but had a question to add.  Do they NPC you after you ascend?  It would be strange to have a god running about doing PC activities.  LFG could have a whole new meaning.

At some point he’ll become the hipster god who deified before it was cool.  Until then, color me impressed.
