Sword and Bored: Behind the scenes

At this point, it’s probably not overly obvious, but we have created Sword and Bored in story arcs. And this comic represents the ending of the second arc.

This also represents the first comic that doesn’t really include Mo. I feels a bit weird to have a comic without him, but I thought it appropriate to experiment. We want Mo to be the main protagonist in the comic, but we believe that the actual funny parts aren’t necessarily him but the things that happen around and to him.

At any rate, Mo will be back next week. Until then, here’s this week’s comic…

ManastuUtakata Damonvile I was totally being sarcastic but I assumed they were all players and it was a pointless circle.

DeadlyAccurate Yeah, I get you there.  I just picture Charles Shultz prefacing his strip with “I thought it would be funny if Lucy always pulled the ball away from Charlie Brown”.

…it looks more like a NPC bartering economy at the expense of players. o.O

MesaSage I feel like it must be a “minimum required words per post” kind of thing.

MesaSage Allow me to politely disagree. I like knowing some of the thought process for the comic.

Blackhair Gnome I’d rather have the robe.

The dark elf should trade the robe for some hair.

Ironwu I liked that, wish we still had that in games.  My necro got a lot of her research pages from things other folks had vendored.

Love the strip, but have a suggestion.  Don’t feel like you need to explain yourselves upfront.  Imagine writing the same preamble for all your articles.  The comic speaks for itself and is more enjoyable if the “behind the scenes thinking” is left to the imagination.  Maybe when people have questions in the comments, you could clarify there.

In Shroud of the Avatar, gear you sell to vendors will turn up on mobs later on.

Wow, a real player economy at work! :)

Oddly enough, classic EQ1 used to be EXACTLY like this!
If you sold an item to a vendor, it would actually be on the vendor for other players to buy.
Got many a quest item buying them off a nearby vendor instead of grind farming for them.
Brownie Brain springs to mind as an especially hard one to farm for the quest.

And, yes, there was (is?) a collect 10 Rat Tails quest in the Rivervale Misty Thicket newbie zone.  :)
