Rumor: Mounts are coming to The Secret World!

It appears as if mounts are coming to The Secret World. Massively OP reader Nordavind sent us this screencap of a Funcom Twitch stream that just ended, but not before teasing an image of a Secret World avatar atop a motorcycle!

Source: Screencap; thanks Nordavind and everyone else who tipped us!

Nordavind tenfootgoatman Right. Essentially just another vanity item they can throw into the store to make some cash. The changes to the wells that allow instant transportation aren’t going anywhere so it won’t make any difference, probably being locked to run speed.

Wakkander Nordavind tenfootgoatman Yeah I was thinking about that… Would make much more sense replacing Quickened Anima levels for “rides” like Lvl1 (bicycle), Lvl2 (Scooter/ATV), lvl3 (standard motorcycle), lvl4 (cruiser, touring, sport, etc)… Cars would be too much on my opinion, just like stuff much faster than Quickened Anima lvl4 (still a quick anima lvl5 would be great with like +125% or so) the areas aren’t big like Sections on Fallen Earth/Perfect World/WoW and also they are instanced and loading screens breaks the feeling of greatness on the game’s World…
Also customization options for the rides would be like… Endless hehehe… And does make things more realistic than sprinting like everybody is on mdma… LOL

I always wondered why there were no vehicles in TSW, being modern day and all especially.

While you’re at it.. how bout cleaning up the character face models to not look like Neanderthals?

Bannex19 “no motor vehicles made it feel apocalyptic.”
I’m sorry, there seems to be a call for you on line one. Somebody called Mad Max?

Galactrix Wakkander I might give it another look and see how things feel. I honestly really enjoyed the world, and if combat will no longer drive me away maybe I’ll finally get to the end game.

Wakkander sorry, I said “starter zone” but that to me means anywhere other than Tokyo lol. They rebalanced mobs everywhere up to Transylvania and even nerfed the Kaidan starter mobs slightly in a previous issue update.
Blood/sword is a valid weapon combo. Actually any weapon combo can be made to work with the right passives and gear. It would be interesting to see what you think if you popped in there now… if you do, join the Sanctuary chat channel where players will give you a helping hand.

Nordavind tenfootgoatman I suppose that makes sense, the world size was something I was also wondering about.

Galactrix Its been over a year since I last played. I was also well past the starter zone.
My character worked perfectly fine, it was not an issue with effectiveness, so much as it being a slow combat system that felt distinctly disconnected. I grew bored tapping my resource generation skills then tapping the skills I wanted to use to spend said resources ad nauseam watching the hit bars slowly drain and occasional debuff helping. It grew to the point I would be really into a particular quests story and I just felt annoyed whenever combat, especially incidental combat, got in the way of it.

Again, not a build effectiveness issue, I dealt with that after the first time I played it and made what seemed cool, but ultimately was apparently a terrible weapon combo. So when I ended up getting really into it I made sure I built my guy researching and using a build that was an effective combat spec for solo play. Of course this also turned me off of the games combat a bit as well as the openness of it proved to be more fantasy than reality as certain builds were useless, and so I couldn’t effectively play the character I wanted and was forced into a fairly common build in order to enjoy the story and atmosphere, which is fantastic.
The fact they addressed the slow nature of the combat I suppose is nice, though this seems to imply it still existing at higher levels.

ogged451 Not trying to ‘white knight’ anything. The game’s long overdue for some solid, permanent group content aimed at people with high-end gear. That doesn’t mean, however, that the group content they have added in mysteriously doesn’t count just because it’s meant to be more accessible to the playerbase.

tenfootgoatman It won’t be faster than current max level sprint as far as we know. It will just be another way of animating it.

Bannex19 it never really seemed totally realistic to me for people to just be sprinting up and down the streets tho. if people ran in tsw like natural human speeds it would be different but everyone ran like they were in a marathon 24/7

The game worlds quite small so where are you going to ride them ? For TSW they seem more of a vanity item than serving any real use .

DrowNoble Wakkander LoL TSW has no think combat now too since the enhanced player experience the majority of the game world is very easy now . What you remember when you were leveling up doesn’t exist anymore .

How long ago was this? Because they recently released their “Enhanced Player Experience” (EPEEN) update where they needed all the enemy mobs in starter zones so they die in average 7 second fights to address experiences like yours.
And they changed the reward drops so that your gear should be better balanced – if you had health and healing gear on instead of gear with DPS stats then that’s why you weren’t hitting hard enough. Also with blood magic it’s best to find fast cast abilities like blood shot, or just gets used to playing it differently, as blood magic has lots of damage over time powers that favour slow steady combat rather than rofl stomping :)

melissamcdon Even when they do introduce mounts in TSW, I doubt anything will change about the Kingsmouth ‘decorations’. Especially those at the road leading from the Agartha entrance to KM – imagine the crowd of newbies standing there, scratching their heads trying to figure out how to complete their first missions… Jump on the cars to attract nearby zombies. What cars?!

Ooh a Triumph Bonneville motorbike (they have loads lying around in London anyway – lol!) and a TVR if they are doing cars would be quite nice! :D

DrowNoble Wakkander No, WoW has terrible combat as well. They are somewhat different, but by no means does either have the market cornered on boring combat.
Secret worlds combat has no sense of weight, my guy goes nuts and is effective, or was at the time, but it all feels disconnected. The combat also takes to long, the least fun I had in the game was dealing with the mobs because the combat just felt incredibly sluggish. So you have this slow combat, I am doing my rotation and effectively taking on the enemies, and it just kind of runs on and little of what I do has ‘impact’. I could be wielding foam bats for all the reactions enemies seem to have to me brutally eviscerating them with sword and using blood magic. It actually reminds me a lot of Star Trek Online’s ground combat, which I also really actively dislike for its incredibly slow and plodding pace and trademark cryptic ‘floatiness’ that is also in Champions but doesn’t feel as out of place.
And don’t kid yourself too much, many of the reasons I don’t like wow’s combat are the same as I don’t like the secret world’s combat. Dull combat that focuses on hotbar skill rotations that drag on just long enough for me to get bored before it is over. Wow actually is probably better because at least then when I hit ‘big’ skills there is seemingly more impact on their hp bars, while in TSW it just seems like a slow grind; and wows combat seems to take less time on average. So while not a fan of either, point to blizzard for at least not making me suffer through it as long.

And if you are wondering, the combat I had the most fun with would probably be Vindictus, which while I grew bored of the game itself after awhile I loved being able to punch the living daylights out of enemies and body slam creatures. Faster paced, no hotbar rotations, and moves and combos that have a sense of weight and impact.

I agree. Agartha is one of the best naturally-occurring social hubs I’ve seen in my years with MMORPGs. I’d hate to see that messed with …
Lots of places to drive in the game which make in-game sense. Driving in Agartha would just be a “Look at me! Look at me! Pay attention to me!” fest anyway. The zone doesn’t need it.

you can white-knight that all you want, but Eidolon was the last real, new group content.
Hel was fine, but as a boss in a box (or two bosses if you want to count the warm-up Krampus) and being only available for 3 or 4 weeks out of 52 and the rewards being borderline useless, no that doesn’t count.
Scenarios are also just farming and once they stop soloing group elites (they didn’t with 11.0), call again.
I wanted something for 5 or 10 people a year ago, with Issue 9. A reason to have triple digit effusion ratings and 9x 1.9 AEGIS. Heck, my cabal NEEDED that, so they dropped out one by one, because doing NMs and sitting on hundreds or even thousands of BBs can only entertain you so long.
The proposed NM versions of the tower fights .. are band-aids, and we all known how “fun” it can be running missions in TSW as a group – “oh, you missed that checkpoint ? lets do it all again”.

Wakkander Terrible combat?  You prefer the no-think button mashing of WoW?

Only thing to get used to is to keep moving in combat.  Too many new players I see stand still while casting and get flattened. :)

Seems awesome, I really enjoyed the early parts of the game. Unfortunately by the time I reached egypt the games terrible combat proved too much to want to keep playing. Might be fun to return though if vehicles are added, unless it is something that is not accessible at lower ‘levels’.
