Shroud of the Avatar gets slammed by DDoS attack

If you’re having trouble accessing Shroud of the Avatar’s website or game, don’t worry — it’s not you. The devs posted a notice on Steam to inform the community that they’re currently weathering a DDoS attack and hope to be back up and running normally soon.

In the meantime, there’s a new Update of the Avatar to digest, complete with news about a charity tie-in, the breakdown of Release 17, and a link to the game’s soundtrack on SoundCloud. You can watch the devs hash out the Release 17 postmortem after the break!

Gridley171 Madda Ask a parent or guardian to come in and reread Madda’s previous comment.

Then come back and point to where Madda said Madda was an “Ultima Guru”

Madda Gridley171 As Mikey said above, it is generally 8 and 9 that are considered the the black sheep of the flock.  And I’m 100% totally with you in that 6 is where I started out and 7 was beyond home run, just one of the best rpg’s of all time for me.

So yes, despite all your talk of sounding like an Ultima franchise guru, your comments (or just memory?) on the subject seems to fall short, Madda.  But maybe I’ll just chalk it up to different tastes.

Siphaed You’d think they would’ve sought restitution… at the time that it occurred maybe? Also in not doing a simple DDoS years later that’ll last for a few days at most at a time when the game is still in Alpha?

There are a ton of people who don’t like him, I’m sure. But is the way to show that displeasure by instigating the internet equivalent of a temper tantrum? DDoS’s are the work of children, not of adults who might be old enough to remember Tabula Rasa and have moved on with their lives.

Gridley171 Madda It is a damn shame that the two usually considered the ones that sucked are 8 and 9, supposed to be the pinnacle of the series. But totally, 6 was where I started, and 7 cemented me as a fan for life. I even love the pulp Savage Empire and sci-fi Martian Dreams.

TukutoThePumpkinGod If you are over the age of 12 years old then that is a very odd response .

Siphaed  Please provide some evidence that Garriot ever embezzled funds from NCSoft.  In that business relationship only one side (NCSoft) has been shown to be involved in any wrongdoing.  Extended vacations are not embezzlement.  If Garriot had violated his contract NCSoft could (and almost certainly would) have sued him.
And the fact that his name was on the box did not mean the game had to be closed because they fired him.  Plenty of projects with big names attached continue after the named is gone.  As often as not the big name has had very little to do with the actual game (Sid Meier’s name appears prominently on the covers of the Civilization series even though he was the lead designer only on the first two.)

Siphaed mmofallout All violations of the law are illegal. Civil penalties doesn’t change the fact.

Akami Siphaed Elirion there is some validity to that.
Personally I look at it as Richard Garriot had a string of successful games with some stinkers but on balance more good than bad.
Brad McQuaid did EQ and then delivered Vanguard, which while fun was delivered with serious issues that it never recovered from for reasons. Then failed to kickstart his new game twice.  So one good, one with good ideas but bad delivery and a full fail.
For me RG had more of an impact on my gaming development as I played more Ultima games and only really became aware of BM long after his glory year(s).
Different people will have a different perspective depending on their gaming histories :-)
