The Repopulation to launch in Q4 2015

Just when you thought The Repopulation was doomed to be in eternal testing, Above and Beyond Technologies announced that it’s releasing. This year. This winter. For real.

The studio said that it’s targeting a launch window of Q4 2015 for the science fiction sandbox and that the game will be “feature complete” sometime this summer.

Speaking of completing the game, The Repopulation recently updated to Build 15.4.1, which included the new diplomacy minigame, more UI improvements, work on player cities, and the Wailing Chasm dungeon.

Game is getting better with each patch.. I am pretty sure they will have it ready for release by the end of the year.

Same here. Actually this and star citizen are the only games i put a three figure pledge on via crowdfunding.
The potential of this is immense. I just hope they succeed because they do aim for an extreme featurecomplete sandbox mmo.

Maggie_May Think how EVE was when it was released. I am willing to put up with a lot of stuff from a small indie company. After launch if they have bugs and problems i will understand and not throw a sissy fit.

Hell there are AAA MMOs launching and they are filled with bugs.

I bought into this game. I picked it up early Because I wanted to be involved in a game while it grows. The game still needs tons of work, but was worth the money in current state. … For what I was looking for anyway

Ironwu CrowingOne ohforfs  ESO is an amalgam of Hero engine for the world interaction and developer toolset, and Havok engine for the graph, and possibly the physics. They say so on the splash pages for the game, this was on display during the free weekend.
Havok engine was used for Skyrim, it is good, but rather privately run, you have to send a request and negotiate for it, there is no way to just download a trial. Havok is/was coded in Ireland, and owned by Intel.

GL! Not just as a MMO, but one I am hopeful for.

I am rooting for these guys, I do think that the game has a ways to go and I hope they can make the game workable and fun. Combat was certainly a challenge compared to more traditional theme park games and crafting is something of a puzzle. I had a little trouble getting up and running and the repop team was great helping me out and making sure I was able to play. As compared to so many companies making games right now I have to say I’d rather give an indie game my support. Getting a workable playable game with a small team seems a huge challenge though.

Great to hear! I’ve been playing this pretty consistently and it will good to see such a small, committed team get it over the line and launch! And as with all MMO’s these days (hell, all games) it will continue to be improved.

Good work team…looking forward to getting stuck back into it without character wipes looming :-)

therepopulation Ceois That sounds lovely! I haven’t been so excited in a really long time when it comes to a game. I’ve been an MMO nomad for far too many years and i’ve played far too many theme park MMOs.

The world needs a good sandbox..the world needs to be repopulated ;)

Is there any footage of it since https://www.therepopulation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=9563?  I was about to buy in last night but saw video of 15.2.x or so and thought it needed some time yet.   Interested in the idea but the combat  and the textures looked rough.

I am actually quite pleased that they are using the Hero Engine.  It has proved itself quite capable in SWTOR and ESO (yes, ESO uses the Hero Engine, despite what is claimed).
My concern is not engine performance, which I fully believe can be worked out.  My concern is the quality of the content they are providing and the manner in which they are addressing it.

Estranged Worth noting that they took the crafting system almost wholesale from Vanguard and EQ2. It is more enjoyable than crafting in a lot of games, don’t get me wrong.. I’m just explaining why this game may not be enjoyable to people who are expecting a game in which combat plays a large, rewarding part.

therepopulation Ceois Are there any plans down the road to upgrade the gfx?  I know graphics arent everything , but the game is painful for me.  I am a pretty high up backer too.  Im just crossing my fingers here.

Koshelkin I never said it was everyone else’s opinion, hence the qualifier “If you don’t craft or don’t like crafting”. You are always welcome to take internet comments with a grain of salt…

I truly hope that they get their movement/combat into a more fluid state than it was the last time I played it. Everything felt so clunky, and like my character was covered from head to toe in sticky tack.

Avarius Tandor Shadewalker I think crafting is far more interesting when you essentially first do the parts and then combine them to a whole. That’s why I still prefer FFXIV 1.0’s crafting over ARR’s. I don’t want to explain here why I prefer it, I just wanted to negate your absolute ” is less exciting … than” with a relative “i prefer … over”. Your opinion != everyone’s opinion.

Avarius

Tandor Shadewalker This is my problem with the game. Combat is not even a viable profession or means of progressing through the game. You can’t loot any good weapons, armor, etc, only crafting components.. and if you don’t craft or don’t like crafting, you’re missing 75% of the game. And on that note, crafting is very, very unrewarding. It’s nearly impossible for an individual to craft anything usable (e.g. weapons, armor, vehicles) without significant time investment. Their intention is that players will specialize in crafting specific components, and thus there will be players crafting at all tiers of the system. However, spending all one’s time crafting and selling Electro Mechano Combobulators is considerably less exciting than crafting something with immediate (non-cash) reward or utility.

Ceois We do. We still are a small team, but we have picked up a few new talented people and it has helped. We have some very passionate and extremely helpful volunteers helping as well providing feedback and assisting with QA, GMing, and other tasks. This summer is going to shape up to be a very busy one, but we are looking forward to Beta and getting it ready for a wider push.

dirtyklingon Wratts Yeah, not intending to be negative, since I realize a lot of hard work has gone in, and this is more likely to be a creative work than a truly commercial one.  I hope it does well

Tandor Shadewalker CrowingOne Armsbend Greaterdivinity This is the single best comment I have ever read on this site, sums up my thoughts perfectly.  WoW was a disaster for the MMO world

The reason:  MMO creators lost their individuality and cloned WoW into relentlessly

Only spent a little time in beta with it, but a little surprised they’re looking at this year; seemed like it had a ways to go.  Good luck, because I like the concepts, just felt very indie

Ironwu

Well, the game shows promise, but I think a release this year is a bit over ambitious.
Currently, it is essentially a beginner development.  They are using the Hero Engine gratis servers and don’t even have the capability to patch their own game with any reliability.  The game is infested with bugs from the first tutorial area and onward.
My observation and experience is that they are loading features into the game without debugging or finishing features that have already been shoveled in.  This is a sure recipe for disaster as they will eventually get to the point where it is not possible to fix or complete the game.

ArchDevi Quite possibly. I don’t have any real expectations for The Repopulation so I won’t be disappointed if I end up not enjoying it. As for B&S, I’m mainly excited because it’s pretty as hell so if nothing else it will be enough to log in and run around and go “oooohhhhhh, aaaaahhhhhh” every once in a while : )

It looks ok so far as it goes, but the world has a very monotonous feel to it and I find it very laggy and poorly performing. It comes across to me as very much like  Anarchy Online with slightly updated graphics and with very little to do apart from an exceptionally involved and bewildering crafting system.

I don’t like to judge a game by its beta but from what I have heard its going to need to improve a lot by release if its going to be a success.
