Echo of Soul heads into open beta today (with no further wipes)

Echo of Soul is in open beta as of today, so if you want to jump in and play right this moment, you can. Assuming that you’re at a computer that can run the game and such, of course; if you’re reading this at work, you probably can’t just download the game and play while working. That’s not the point.

As with many free-to-play open betas, there will be no further wipes at this point, so it’s not out of the question to think of this as a de facto launch. We’d encourage it, even. There’s a trailer past the break if you’re interested and want a clearer picture.

Veldan Madda It was released in Korea in 2012.

Pretty boring game, even for a veteran MMO grinder like me. I must have played for about 1,5 hour before I realized I was not having any fun, and may as well quit right now.

– bad graphics
– bad animations
– boring combat

– lots of clipping
– generic quests with generic quest text
– extremely easy, like most modern MMOs, impossible to fail any combat because even if just auto attacking you will complete every quest with ease

– no language based servers, resulting in 10 different european languages being used in chat until nobody can make any sense of anything anymore
– gold spammers are abundantly present
– chaotic UI

Probably more things, but I can’t be bothered… I’m done here.

Madda 2012? Animation, graphics and smoothness feel more like 2005 to me…

I gave this game a try till level 20.

The game is pretty straight forward with little diversity among the maps, quest, & skills.

It’s not my cup of tea, but if you have no other games on you plate, this could fill some time. Just don’t expect too much.

This game is typical Aeria trash…their games have so much appeal for the first few days then it gets to a point where you realize you’ve wasted those last few days. I have been tricked so many times now…

Well I have to give them credit for not making the typical Hans Zimmer/Michael Bay trailer

It’s okay. I’ve been playing it off and on the past few weeks. It’s pretty, the screenshot options are awesome, and I’ve liked the solo dungeon I’ve tried so far. But being held in one spot while performing an instant ability is driving me a little crazy and there’s no depth to the combat or story (also I’ve yet to find an “open” world). Still, I have it installed so I’m getting something out of it.

Despite all the hate in the comments, I am having fun.
The major complaint here seems to be that the game is generic. To me, that isn’t meaningful criticism. I don’t need MMOs to push boundaries in order to enjoy them. Sadly, most new MMOs go out of their way to do something new, when what they should have done is polish the formula that has worked for almost two decades.
Hope to see some of you in game.

Well, this is not bad game. Combat is not bad. Visuals are not bad. Characters are not bad. All is not bad. Not good, too.
NO interesting mechanics in game. At all.
BTW Aeria has another game of this class – “Aura Kingdom” – that is really opposite. A ton of unique and interesting features. Very un-usual, with flashy anime style (many ppl won’t like it), many other things that won’t be everybody’s taste – but not mediocre at all.
If somebody for some reason wants to play something of less scale than full AAA game – I’d definitely recommend Aura Kingdom, not EOS. Btw in the beginning all combats in AK are super-easy. It’s ok, later they will be much harder )

it is only 2-3 years old in korea, but it plays and looks like it is from the early 2000’s.

ihatevnecks Robert80  Yes it is… but there are a very few bright spots.  Some people may not care about all that.  Also, it generally works without major game-breaking bugs, and has a fairly decent amount of leveling options.  It certainly is niche in who will enjoy it… but for those who will enjoy the type of game it is, with all that in mind, it is a solid option.

Robert80 I’m confused how you can type all that and then sum it up with “it isn’t terrible.” That’s a hell of a lot of negative about a game that isn’t terrible.

I’m having so much fun in this game. I love the old school feel the game has. This and Blade and Soul will be my games this year.

EoS is:
A themepark on about as tight of rails as you can get, with fairly simplified choices (2/3 talents every tier, for example,) a slight addition to crafting by adding in a hobby that relates to every other craft and is balanced against a cooldown that is rather long, and features… well, the graphics aren’t bad, and they used a good variety of landscapes.
If you don’t mind tons of invisible walls blocking your shortcuts, gender locked minimal choice classes, very generic kill and gather questing, extremely limited guilds because of guild based PvP, feeling like you are running down a one way street 99% of the game, tons of cash shop focused gameplay (where the cash shop was not yet in, things like pet extension timers, rez scrolls, power ups, and other things essentially screamed cash shop,) ‘rare’ item spam from lockboxes (yeah, they want you to know somebody got the rare mount X so you too will buy!,) people going off to ninja your quest mobs and objectives as per games from 2009 or earlier, and a huge power difference between one class and the others (especially melee suffers with massive amounts of consumable use draining their funds,) then… just maybe… you might like this game.
It isn’t terrible, but there are so many things that just aren’t really well done.  To be perfectly blunt, it felt like a mobile/facebook game met a railroad and gave birth to something almost like an MMO.

I’m always suspicious of these types of trailers, especially for MMOs. And rightfully so, judging from the comments on this article.

Karl_Hungus It’s like they blindfold someone, pull out an English dictionary, and randomly pick a page and point at a word.  Do that twice, put some form of conjunction or preposition in between and YAY GAME TITLE!

PurpleCopper Right there, in the dictionary, next to Generic, we see a picture of Echo of Soul.

Just tried playing a bit.  They actually have the gall to put a quest early on in the game that can only be completed by buying something from the cash shop.  Just a side-quest, but, still, that really really irked me.

What a generic fantasy title.

The only title more generic than this is probably Fantasy Quest.

So what version of “widely mass produced asian mmorpg engine” are they up to with this game now?

Or is this their attempt at building some sort of time machine, allowing gamers everywhere to feel like they are suddenly back in 2010?

why does the first npc in the trailer look like a cheap knockoff of Archer from Fate/Stay Night.

Wasn’t impressed when I super briefly tried the CBT, but I’ll give it a go. I feel like it’s going to end up similar to Cabal 2 for me, where I play for 6-7 hours and then get so utterly bored and wonder why I’m not spending my time playing one of the MMO’s I actually enjoy : /

TL;DR: It’s a 2012 themepark being repackaged as a brand new 2015 one.

Complete with subpar aesthetics, boring animations and skills, little creativity done to seperate it from others, and more!

COming soon to an Aeria Games near you!

Something new at least.  As much as I’m enjoying Witcher 3, I’d like to do a quest where the outcome isn’t someone hanging themselves or sacrificing a bunch of children at the end regardless of my choices along the way
