Camelot Unchained releases 10th Unveiled newsletter

The 10th issue of Camelot Unchaineds Unveiled newsletter is filled with tidbits on lore, design, the community, patch notes, and more. There’s even mention of a dragon and screenshots of a village created in C.U.B.E. It’s a pretty lengthy read, so if your time is limited, here’s a sampling of what you’ll find.

There’s plenty of talk about archers alongside designs showing the models of the giant races. The update section includes notes on the addition of modifier components, heavenly bodies (we’re talking about the sun, moon, and stars in the sky here!), and colored lights in C.U.B.E. as well as the implementation of global values to player speed on hills, maximum hit and stamina points, and falling damage. Ambiance enthusiasts might enjoy perusing this month’s developer spotlight that falls on Daniel Beck; he discusses the creation process for CU’s music and sounds. And the proffered lore is a rewriting of a Becoming story, entitled The Becoming – Hamadryads.

We warned you it was a mouthful! Hungry for even more details? For that, you’ll need to read the full newsletter for yourself.

_Ariel_ I’ll be honest here. Your lack of patience is meaningless. The game hasn’t even neared the date they hope to enter Beta testing. That date was set during the Kickstarter campaign.

_Ariel_ No thanks, Id rather have a fully polished game at release than a buggy turd.

_Ariel_ As you said, “the craze started a couple years ago.” If you want a playable MMO in only two years, you’re gonna have a terrible time.

_Ariel_ TBH I approach crowdfunded MMOs very carefully. Only a handful inspire any confidence in me that they succeed, turn out solid. But I also rather play an original low-pop niche title than a mainstream game with big player numbers. A couple of thousand players are enough to keep a server and a community going. You dont need 200k+ subs for that.

Koshelkin Nah, you’re the hero we need in crowdfunding. These games wouldn’t be coming along so awesomely without some of us not being poor.

I saw the long range caster bombardment in the Alpha video and when I read in the newsletter about sound effects added to this battlefield my mind just teleported into the game and I felt like I was there hearing the echoes of the explosions of the distant hills and I just felt….hyper Excited!  Great information,  And now I am thinking about the archery that was mentioned and wonder what sound black rain makes :)

As usual, an excellent update.  CU is really coming along.

Godspeed to Mark’s wife Janet on a quick and full recovery.

_Ariel_  It takes longer than 2-3 years to develop an MMO.  Most of the crowdfunded projects were asking for money to develop the game.  We should see several from the first wave launch in the next couple of years.

I’m just tired of waiting for all these crowdfunded games to finally become playable. As of right now not one crowdfunded mmo has been successfully launched since the craze started a couple years ago and they all started taking in money.
Not one.
We’re all still playing mmos from major dev houses or indie projects, but none of the crowdfunded games.

_Ariel_  Yeah, because taking in loads of people’s money then going quiet for 2-3 years while they develop  the game would go over soooooooooo well.  Have some perspective please.

That C.U.B.E village is amazing. Huge props to Norik.

_Ariel_ I wouldn’t exactly place Camelot Unchained in “Crowdfunded Limbo” with the release of the Alpha.

I can’t wait to be able to use the human models – the art in the newsletter looks great. It continues to make me happy that CU will have awesome looking female characters in proper armor.

I also am very happy with the Archer description. In most MMOs, they just feel like mages with different animations, or just spam arrows. It’s good to hear that bows will actually feel like they should, with timing and precision being important.

paragonlostinspace Koshelkin Well it’s like a bet which could go awry.

Loved the discussion on Archers. Sounds like we finally are getting a game where each class truly has unique game play. Each realm will have dramatically different feel to them.

Koshelkin Crazy people are the most fun.  I hope CU is everything you and I hope it’s going to be.  Trust in the Jacobs!

_Ariel_   I’d rather they spend another year making it into a great game versus into an “ok” or just “good” game.

Currently saving up for Warrior 2.0 Forever. 275$ without having seen much of the game. Am I crazy? A little bit perhaps, but also crazy for the game.

Tendrin Me too, patiently waiting on beta though. I’ve learned the hard way I’m not the target demographic for alpha’s, especially with no pay. :p

Less screenshots, newsletters. More releasing the game already.
That goes for about 20 other games in crowdfunded limbo as well.

The more I read, the more I want to play this dang game. :)
