E3 2015: SWTOR’s next expansion is Knights of the Fallen Empire

EA has just announced its E3 lineup, and MMO fans are going to like the part where the company casually reveals the name and focus of the next Star Wars: The Old Republic expansion. Glowsticks at the ready!

Star Wars™: The Old Republic™ – The largest story-driven expansion to date, Knights of the Fallen Empire, marks a renewed focus on cinematic storytelling in Star Wars: The Old Republic. The expansion will deliver on the hallmarks of what makes a great BioWare™ game: new worlds to explore, new companions to recruit, and a dynamic story that players will be able to shape based on the choices they make.

We’ll have more from our writers on the ground in LA next week!

sray155  You didn’t play the latest WOW expansion have you? It was kind of halfassed done with bad decisions all around by the Devs.   End game really fell apart and they charged you more money for it too!!!

I don’t get why they keep added stuff on top of that broken game engine. Animations are still cringe-worthy and it was never the game Star Wars fans deserved.

I’d love nothing more than to play an awesome Star Wars mmo, but in a modern game engine with some actual motion capture.

They need to redo some of the graphics/engine.. I rig can play skyrim full graphics np, but swtor full graphics i get frame drops o.O come on, fix the game before releasing more content that’s probably going to be just as broken as revan fight on early access.. o.O Still, I am looking forward to it, it’s nice to have a bit more, and good to see this game isn’t dying anytime soon :) maybe it’ll be fixed in time, who knows

A new story is nice and all, but c’mon.. this is a MMO. There’s so much more that could be done here! New fun features, better game mechanics, and better sustainable end-game would be fantastic.

keysmachine Perhaps because it’s actually a hybrid, not a F2P. There are a lot of subscribers.

SallyBowls1 Neo_Wolf What makes the Consular story so utterly silly is that the ship the Jedi get doesn’t even have bunk space for your companions, much less the collection of misfits and oddballs that you get saddled with on top of them. It really gives a good impression of the Republic when the representatives of the unaligned worlds have to sleep in shifts on the couches…

While I’ve always enjoyed the story content in The Old Republic so far, if this announcement with it’s emphasis on narrative means what it has so far, then I’m not really excited.  The games biggest problem in my opinion is that Bioware have been very bad at developing a sustainable endgame that can hold interest between content drops.  We’ll have to see what they plan to bring to the table, but going by 3.1 and 3.2 so far, I’m expecting further disappointment.

So does that mean Bioware’s actually getting a bigger expansion budget for once?

hoping each class gets a story line, rather then a single one that drags everyone in regardless of relevance, and that the story can be played properly as a group, rather then every story phase being ‘personal’ only.
