World of Warcraft: Fury of Hellfire is now live

OK kids, summer vacation is over; it’s time to get back to work in World of Warcraft! Patch 6.2: Fury of Hellfire went live today, adding a substantial update with plenty to keep adventurers occupied over the next few weeks.

The highlights of the patch include the Invasion of Tanaan Jungle zone, shipyards for Garrisons, naval missions, the Hellfire Citadel raid, the mythic difficulty level for dungeons, special “timewalking” versions of older dungeons, the new adventure guide, weekly bonus events, and the legendary ring quest line.

The patch notes and Massively OP’s survival guide are there to help you gain your footing for this plus-sized update. Good luck!

Why bother? At first when I came back to WoW it felt a bit fresher and a bit more fun; garrison was a nice distraction for someone who couldn’t log in regularly due to work and RL, there was still progress made and that felt like something and, hey, I could FINALLY get that sweet Paladin armour from the character creation screen.
And then I realised that all the old flaws I hated were still there. You still suffer from clown-suit while leveling. You still get no pick in your build or powers. Professions are still utterly, utterly pointless and a ballache to grind until you hit Draenor and your garrison can help level it for you. Once you’ve exhausted the story content (which wasn’t that bad, for the most part) you then get left with daily grinds and all that repeated BS.

And, if that wasn’t enough, there’s still a bunch of WORSE crap that keeps coming up. Blizzard apparently forgot what everyone else in the world EVER remembers, namely that flying is cool, and continues its war against its own creation. Giving in to players demanding the common sense of not removing content that has been in there since expansion 1? Better put a massive rep grind in the way! Giving players cool things to work towards? Better nerf drop rates and rewards to make it twice as grindy! (looking at YOU, salvage yard changes….)

Finally, there’s all the mechanical and technical glitches and tomfoolery that there really is no excuse for in a game with Blizzards budget; enemies able to attack you and walk through SOLID. ****ING. WALLS. While player characters get stuck on a small boulder and are blocked by invisible walls. Trying to attack a Rare mob that is sat on a tall pillar with absolutely no possible way up there, and being treated to ‘Evade’ spammed about ten times, until the mob glitches down to the floor in a split second and starts attacking you.
I know that older games can’t produce miracles and shouldn’t really be expected to have as much mechanical finesse as some newer titles do. But for arguably still the biggest and best known MMO around, with what I’d expect is a lot of budget weight to throw around, WoW really has NO damn excuse for such repeated mediocrity.
I really miss City of Heroes…. *sigh*

Not the worst patch. The Tanaan zone is by far the best part, great graphics and some definite bad guys to slaughter because they have the word ‘fel’ in their title so they must be bad. The shipyard missions would barely qualify as a Facebook game, a bad Facebook game. I doubt I’ll be doing many Facebook shipyard missions other than what the storyline demands I have to do to unlock things and then never touch again. Not even with a cattle prod.

Honestly don’t really care just soured on Blizzard in General.  The requirements for flying are ridiculous.  I wont grind 3 rep faction and find 100 useless treasures that should never have been in the game for a basic feature of the game.  Its like the devs are pissed that we don’t like the treasures and bad rep grinds in this expansion and are punishing the player base  cause we don’t like their vision.  Wow has com0leatly fallen apart for me, just may not go back at all.  Its killing itself with bad decisions.

Hellbound Heart As much as i enjoy FFXIV, this post has no place in this comment section.. All you’re doing now is trolling.

Telos_ Dope_Danny Their problem seems to stem from “good ole boys club” syndrome. They have people in lead development roles that have been there for a long time that the audience treats like celebrities or rock stars when their current comments are often “i dont know how to fix this problem”.

Traditionally if you have a team member who is out of ideas and doesnt know how to fix problems they get replaced. But Blizzard is notorious for the boys club at the top remaining static and just churning through a legion of lower level team members they replace and no new blood ever reaches lead development roles on existing ips.

WoW needs new blood in charge but they will never let that happen because of their strange ethos of keeping the people on top on top even when they admit they have run out of ideas.

WoW is just old and although it’s superior in almost every way to other MMOs, it’s just not enough to keep playing it’s outdated engine.

Dope_Danny The problem is, they’ve already taken enough time, so that’s not the issue.  They need to speed up their process and workflows.  It’s either that, or management is holding them back.

Line with more hugs Hellbound Heart Also part of the cyclical nature is WoW super-fans (or shills, depending on your side of the fence) doing the same.

Though given the mention of Heavensward is pretty clearly a dig at Blizzard’s choice of release date (their “totally a coincidence” timing with releases and announcements borders on parody), I think they’ve earned a bit of extra ribbing.

FFXIV is one of the most boring mmos I’ve ever played. Fantastic on paper but the minute you start pressing keys the life just vanishes.

We’re having fun :) There’s a few things that are a little obnoxious. Thinking what the heck Bliz, why wouldn’t you fix that. But all in all, we’re having a good time. Excited to open up flying, when we can too :D

Line with more hugs Dope_Danny Honestly the absolute bare minimum they could have done was look at whats regularly getting people together in other games: Dynamic public events.

In FFXIV a “FATE BEGINS” message appears and new enemies, npcs or vehicles appear in the zone and there is a countdown, an objective and you and everyone in the zone can work together for a reward. In cases of large boss events partys form and people work together and you can get loot, items, currency and maybe meet some new ingame friends.

In Destiny the sky blackens as the Darkness moves in and maybe a satellite falls from its decayed orbit with vital info, or a extremely powerful enemy spawns or a giant tank is dropped in the zone. You and everyone in the zone can join in to take it down for currency, items and rep.

In Guild Wars 2 a message pops up stating some dynamic event is beginning in the zone, players can all team up to take it down for rewards.

In Defiance public events occur like arkfalls where advanced alien tech dropps from its orbit and you must protect it till it unlocks with other people in the zone for loot, currency and greater rewards.

See the pattern? Something that isnt always around randomly spawns in the zone that everyone can join in either solo or group up for and engage an enemy or complete and objective together, often rating the reward based on how much you took part in it. Extend it to things like Diablos portal goblins or Rifts, well, rifts and you get the idea.

The easiest thing they could do is take the idea of Mists scenarios, make them public and none instanced using whatever tech they use for their new “heres an area that wants you to kill a requisite amount of enemies solo for some xp and gold” and use the new timewalker tech to make it scale base on number of participants.

It combines the old thrill of a world boss like Kazzak being up, the camping of the time lost protdrake, the multiplayer the world so desperately needs and actually giving people a none single player experience when out in the world.

Why they havent taken this idea from so many other modern online games i will never know because holy shit would it do Dreanor a world of good.

Good ole’ FF shills.

Cyclical I supposed, it was SWTOR not so long ago. Which also suffers from the same people spamming competitors’ videos in their articles. Heh.

And remember kids, if you’re bored by WoW, come play WoW with a different name.

Mind you, I totally agree.
I find WoW and its clones boring as hell, because they just abandonned the entire concept of MMOs.

But empty worlds outside of capitals and their semi-afk people spamming their automatic LFG… that’s not an exclusive problem to WoW.
Well, now people hang around in their garnisons I guess.

Warlords Patch 6.2: We Heard You Liked 6.0.1, So We Gave You Another One With Flying For the Babbies.

Dope_Danny

Line with more hugs Dope_Danny The competitors arent struggling with a complete ghost town world though. Dreanor is dead. In my entire 90-100 experience on 5 different characters the only times i saw other players was at the apexis grind for the ogres that also dropped items for the goblin faction rep. In the entire world that was it. On a high pop server. Thanks to people using the party system to realm hop its even worse than cataclysm. With the world bosses offering nothing worth getting bar a mount this expansion has really done a terrible job getting players in the world compared to just about every other mmo on the market right now. Raiding is well and good but massively multiplayer doesnt mean a tiny compartmentalised room with the same numbers as your average modern fps team deathmatch game.

They needed to give us reasons to go out in the world. Wrath gave us factions with head and shoulder enchants, mists gave us a choice of factions with ongoing storylines and unique mounts and weapon model rewards. Apexis failed to get people out into the world for the promise of a wolf or boar mount. This patch wants to get people out into the world for apexis grinding for a different coloured series of wolf or boar mounts.

For a game called WORLD of wacraft they need to put more focus on the WORLD, not just things hidden away in instances. Love or hate the expansion there is nobody that can say the continent of Dreanor feels populated or lived in. Its a theme park where you go from ride to static ride that is the same when you leave as when you arrived and you pass other people that are on the same ride but you dont stop during the ride to talk to them because you are all busy in your own experience. Theres no incentive nor reason to engage with others.

And if theres no MMO all it can fall back on is RPG and honestly Warlords isnt doing so hot in this department either.

The brand deserves better and you the customer deserves better.

Hmm.
It’s not this patch that will bring me back, but instanced content and dailies are hardly different from what you can find in competitors right now.
We’ll see with the expansions coming up for GW2 or SWTOR, but that’s just, so, so common and not very surprising…

From i’ve seen on PTR its too soon -no im not making a Rag’s joke- and as usual they are rushing out a raid tier patch to coincide with the launch of a competitors product. But they arent on the stable ground they were when they did this for a game like Warhammer Online. Guild Wars 2 AND Heavensward? right now the comparison in amount of open world content is pretty damning for WoW and they should have held back to improve upon it. God knows we are going to see even more stuff like the various rares in spires of Arrak that spawn 50 feet in the air in a T pose at this rate.

Setting aside my own feelings of this being the worst expansion to WoW- and the worst mmo expansion ive experience period- they needed to knock it out the park and once again they seem to think they are still the super stable undisputed giant everyone defaults to and they can rush something out to detract from possible competition and the genres become so diverse in titles thats not going to be the case. They should have taken their time and really wowed us again -no pun intended for the second time, i swear- but instead we have a second garrison table. another timeless isle directionless grind and NOT ONE, BUT TWO EXTRA APEXIS DAILYS!

I’m not so thick to be one of those people crying “the devs hate the game and want to kill it”, but the rumours of activision blizzard cutting cod and wows’ budgets down to put it into things like hearthstone and skylanders seems all the more likely when we see the bang for our buck we are getting here.

-I know they are reusing the older dungeons to give players more content, unfortunately its more instanced content and the world remains apexis grinds, but its still not good enough to beat its competition right now and i cannot fathom why they didnt wait and put more elbow grease in when so few are actually done with BRF’s harder stuff in an expansion that is raid or die.

I think this is going to be a decision that bites them in the ass. Not LOL WOWS DEAD doomsaying, but they could have redeemed this expansion with 6.2 if they put the time in. This aint gonna do that.
