Cabal 2 launches right here, right now

You ready for some frantic action combat? Cabal 2 is open for business, as ESTSoft’s fantasy title officially releases to the public today.

COO Steve Pae said that Cabal 2 shows how combat doesn’t have to be a grind: “Cabal 2 features gorgeous graphics and an awesome skill-based combat system, which is easy to learn but a challenge to master, and it will make MMO gamers remember why they fell in love with the genre in the first place.”

Cabal 2 is free-to-play and places an emphasis on fun combat with combos. It boasts an expansive world, a competitive PvP game, and plenty of dungeons to go around. You can check out the launch trailer after the break!

So far I hit level 9 and enjoying this a lot more then Echo of Souls and Archlord 2.

There’s a dungeon at level 9 which is really early so I won’t really consider that a good example for the feel of the game until around 20 since the dungeon is straightforward.

Most dungeons in most mmos start at 15 so pretty odd its early.

This game is awful

Day 1, gold spammers everywhere

It uses the Crytek engine, and even on ultra max settings, the game looks worse than Rift or LOTRo (and those games are how old?). The only decent aspect of the graphics, and only by a little, are the character models (on par with lineage 2 basically). However, the games character models are noticeably higher quality than all the rest of the games graphics. It looks really out of place. Like playing with He-Man action figures in a world made out of legos. The 2 just dont go together (unless he-man is destroying lego world, in which case… he has the power)

Hitching and stuttering everywhere, even on a pretty powerful system (no, not net lag related)

For the second game in the series, the devs dont seem to be prepared to handle people logging in or basic server capacity technical issues.

Dumbed down, basic mmorpg mechanics, like you would expect to find in a game from 2005.

Combat felt like WoW, but with worse animations, more flashy particles, and a few extra interactive options (like abilities morphing to a second ability after using it)

Auto Run/navigation to each quest objective even though the game makes it painfully easy to know what to do next.

How the HELL is a game like this coming out in 2015? Seriously. 5 years ago this game would have been considered an average mmorpg. Now however, its way behind the pack.

ApathyCurve ihatevnecks It’s not that I want action fighting games either but one of the major things in do in a mmorpg is combat, so it must be fun.

Feydakin I think that would make it your typical Asian MMO, as atypical implies it’s not representative of that kind of thing :)

‘ Evil has Awoken’. Will it ever take a rest? Will I ever be able to enjoy the view and walk in mmo and not have some ratzilla attack just…because?

KingoZZie Yeah I came home from work and tried to get on but received the same message. After heading to the forums I found the  servers haven’t actually opened up yet. Here’s a link so you can see when they are supposed to go live.

Wanted to try it, but said Founder’s only right now and need to wait until OBT. No idea when that takes place.

ApathyCurve ihatevnecks Not that hard to explain, the mobs hit a lot harder in relation to character health/defense, that’s why it was an extraordinary feat just to be able to solo no matter what means you used. In a group if you didnt single pull a mob and have it debuffed before it got more than a few swings off you were pretty sunk in most cases.
The problem is this is all very heavy handed, almost literally. Mobs started off super strong and debuffs were huge, it was night and day. If you didn’t stay on top of it it could get frantic but as soon as you are with people that know what they are doing it would be clockwork and a straight up grind. Harmo (or other similar tools), pull with snare, run to tank, debuffs on mob incoming, wait a few second for tank to get aggro, DPS. Repeat. You could step it up by having the puller go out at like 5-10% left on the current mob. Yeah it got ‘hectic’ if the debuffs were resisted or a pull was made when healers were low on mana or someone decided to go afk, but that was about it.

Looks like your atypical Asian MMO, concentrating on aesthetics and action combat but with horrendously boring questing, generic story, finger-numbing grind and terrifyingly bad localization… though I could be wrong.

It uses some shitty anti-w/e system (XIGNCODE). *le sigh*

How’s the pvp in this game?  Are there battlegrounds, or is it more of an arena-type system?

Lord Zorvan I don’t mind some self-promotion, and sometimes it’s even useful (maybe I’m intrigued and want to see all their recent coverage on a topic) but at least put the REAL external, relevant links in the header or somewhere.

Actually SEO best practice is to balance internal and external links. Google downranks you if you have too many internal links.

Lord Zorvan I’m glad I’m not the only one.  If the link is a game, or a reference to a article (or whatever), I expect to be sent to another website, not put on a feedback loop.  It makes the links redundant.

I’ve been MMOG wandering since City of Heroes closed up two and a half years ago.  Haven’t found an MMOG to call home yet.

Anyway, I read somewhere and was told by a couple of different people that Cabal II feels like City of Heroes in some ways.  I don’t like the fantasy genre, but out of sheer malaise with the other MMOGs I’ve encountered and wanting to play *something*, I bought a Cabal II founder pack.

I logged in a couple of days ago.  It’s… well… not anything like CoH as far as I can tell, beyond a little bit of the UI.  It’s obviously imported from Asia as far as style, aesthetics, and general feel.  The quests make little to no sense.  I’m looking for my little sister who was kidnapped… but then some of the text refers to my kidnapped little brother…  So, do I have a kidnapped brother, sister, or both?  And, to find my kidnapped sibling, I have to kill some beetles… then some bees… then some fungi that are trying to bite me at the kneecaps…  The text makes little sense compared to what I’m supposed to do.  Granted, MMOGs quest dialog and text aren’t the best… but like… this was even worse.

Then I was given a mount… a large, pink, chicken, that barely increased my walking speed.

It’s not a bad game, but it’s not anything like CoH for sure, and for those that like the fantasy genre, I don’t know why you wouldn’t play WoW or FFXIV or GW2 instead, (other than it’s F2P).

ihatevnecks
Indeed.  I’ve tried to explain to people how intense group combat in EQ was in the early days, with just auto attack and a small handful of buttons to push. Unfortunately, it’s an experience that doesn’t translate.  You were either there and did it, or you’ll never understand.  It doesn’t matter how many words I use, I can’t explain it.  And it can’t be experienced today, as modern EQ is a pale shadow of that first three years, especially in terms of group tactics.  Verant understood how to make each fight truly matter; even blues could be dangerous if you weren’t paying attention.  That is an aspect of MMO design which has been lost over the years.  No amount of frantic button clicking and ridiculous whirling about will ever match it.  If I want action fighting games, I’ll spin my chair around and turn on the Playstation.  I play MMOs for entirely different reasons.

Think you guys could ever stop just shoving links to your own stuff everywhere in your articles and actually put links to, oh I don’t know, the actual games you’re writing about in the articles? You know, like having the highlighted clicky “Cabal 2” go to Cabal 2 and not just link to massivelyop articles on Cabal 2.

Generic, quest-hub and grinder have to be the three words I do not want to see assosiated with an MMO. This gets the nopest of nopes from me.

An awesome skill-based combo system really isn’t why I fell in love with the genre. Nor were gorgeous graphics. Not sure either of those descriptors could be applied to UO, EQ, AC..

Yes. Yes! This is what I’ve been missing. Another generic quest hub grinder. This will make me remember why I fell in love with the genre! …….ugg. Make it stop.

Will probably download to remind myself of how boring and generic I seem to remember it being when I played the beta. But it’s a pretty damn low priority right now, especially with the TSW event, Skyforge coming soon, and more zombies to elbow drop in the head while giggling furiously in RE6.
