Trion’s voxelbox Trove celebrates formal launch today

Trion’s voxelbox Trove leaps from open beta to formal launch today, putting that extra server capacity Trion prepped last month to good use. “At launch, Trove features 9 playable classes; challenging procedurally generated dungeons, landscapes, and lairs; a limitless supply of loot; and a deep crafting system,” Trion says in its press release, touting the creation system in particular. “Since open beta, Trove players have created over 160 dungeons, 2000 equipment styles, and 78,364 unique club worlds.” The game’s new Tomb Raiser class goes live today as well.

The game is freely downloadable from the official site. The studio sent us a boatload of new images to celebrate the release; check ’em out, along with the launch trailer and a quick roundup of our recent coverage of the game below!

Bishop916 TESO seems like one of the better optimized MMOs out there.  I was running it at 4k with my 780ti at almost 50% better frame rate when compared to many other games when I attempted to run them at 4k too.

tanek_09 Ironweakness Rift launch is still the smoothest launch of an MMORPG I’ve seen as well. It’s really impressive because noone was really doing Dynamic Content the way they were at the time(Rift is stil the best game for Dynamic content imo). They even got LFD out of the gate quickly following launch.

How is it that I can run TESO on ultra comfortably in the low 50s but Trove on ultra sends my GPU skyrocketing above 80?

I hear you. Honestly, I’ve written off the dragon content completely. I pretend it doesn’t exist because even the ones rewarded from challenges seem out of reach for me. I’ve been able to craft two DS’s since it was patched in and that’s it. I still run the challenges for Eyes and flux but I have no hopes for ever getting a flying dragon. Maybe the mount but i try not to get my hopes up even for that because it’s less frustrating if I ignore it all completely. I understand wanting to make these things challenging to obtain but both the RAF dragon and the Azulian one in my opinion are way too difficult to get.

Ironweakness Oh nice, you’re right, that would synergise really well. I’ll have to pick those up at some point.

If I had one peeve about the game, it’s that I really want that undead dragon to go with my tomb raiser, but I don’t foresee myself ever being able to round up 30 friends to level to mastery 30. Very sad :(

It wasn’t as bad logging in yesterday as I thought, like you said just typical launch day stuff and they fixed a lot of it pretty quickly. After they did a patch around 6:30 EST it was back to normal for the most part.
And I too bought the “necro-fancy” pack because of how much I like that class archetype and it was well worth it for the class, two costumes, and two mounts.
One thing that helps with the playstyle is to purchase the emblem that completey refills your energy when you use a flask and then pair it with the flask that heals only 20% but gives you more flask quantities. Both can be purchased with Cubits. I bought the emblem last night and will buy the flask today (I need a few more cubits) but the two combined will allow you to refill your energy over and over so that the channel continues much longer. You take so little damage as a Tomb Raiser that the reduced healing per flask shouldn’t be a big deal. That may change at higher difficulties but while leveling through the lower Uber zones I wasn’t taking enough damage to foresee it being a problem.

Ironweakness Kind of sucks that only max level veterans get that bonus :-  I’ve had an account since alpha, I just don’t like investing much time in games until they’ve launched. Happy for those who did get that as a nice little bonus for their support though.

The Tomb Raiser is definitely my new favourite class (I even splurged on the release pack for it since I love necromancers and I had a spare $20 sitting in my Steam wallet and nothing else to throw it at). The wraith form ability confused me a little at first since it seemed to run out so quickly, but it makes your basic do fantastic aoe damage (which in turn gives you big heals from your passive) and makes you almost invulnerable for the duration. And you can get yourself a pretty big golem from your ultimate if you manage to collect a bunch of souls and quickly spit them out as minions first.

Now to redesign my cornerstone with an appropriate theme…

ArcheAge is Trion’s SWG:NGE.  :p

Other than that, they’ve been a pretty stellar company.  Especially where Rift is concerned — super smooth launch, insane update cadence there for a long time, pretty awesome implementation of player housing added on after launch, one of the best freemium models in the biz.  But the miasma hanging over them from ArcheAge isn’t going to dissipate any time soon.  The whole NGE debacle followed SoE with some players right up to the day they became Daybreak.

Ironweakness I really don’t remember seeing much negative before ArcheAge.  RIFT had one of the best launches of any MMO I’ve seen, Trove has been good, even Defiance doesn’t seem to generate much Trion-hate (that may be because I rarely hear anything about it, but still).
It is sad because Trion does seem to be a pretty good developer.  They made big missteps with ArcheAge, yes, but even there I’m not sure they have as much control over what goes on with the game as some players think. I hope they do apply the lessons learned to their next import title.

I swore to never play another Trion game and I am sticking to it. I hear good things about this game, but I just will not support Trion in any way after the AA fiasco.

It started off as a side game for me but now I would call it my main MMO. I agree it is a little grindy but I really enjoy doing the repeatable content and I am taking my time with the gear upgrading, crafting, mastery ranks, etc. I think if you aren’t in a hurry and enjoy the content along the way it’s a great game. But then I could say that about any MMO, a lot of it comes down to preference.
That said, I’m only just now in the process of upgrading from shadow 3 to shadow 4 with my gear and it is slow going. I can only imagine how painful S4 and radiant will be.

We’re there past issues with Trion or is it just the way ArcheAge was handled that has everyone upset? I’ve played Rift off and on and now I play Trove a lot and I’ve never had any issues so I’m just curious. But I wasn’t around when Rift went F2P so maybe I missed something?
I ask because they get a lot of negative feedback on theses forums but other than ArcheAge I don’t understand why. If that’s the only issue it’s unfortunate their reputation was sullied over one game. I really like Rift and Trove, I think they are both well executed and get a lot of regular attention from the developers. Even the cash shops seem reasonably priced and the free content is pretty generous in both titles.

Hmmm. That’s not what’s been happening so that is definitely launch day server issues. Since the introduction of the challenges I’ve had issues where I would go to zone into a new map or the hub world and would get kicked but within seconds I would be logged back in. It would happen several times over an hour or two and was annoying but I got use to it.
What’s frustrating about what you are describing (beyond the obvious of being unable to play) is that for beta players with a max level character we were given 15 days of free patron services but if I can’t even log in for the next few days due to server capacity it will be more like 10 days. It’s free stuff so I can’t complain too much but it does take away from the reward a little.
I was also really looking forward to leveling the tomb raiser tonight. I’ve been waiting for that class since they originally hinted at it. It looks like it may be SWTOR for me tonight though.

Fun game. Only issue is dealing with Trionn but so far they haven’t screwed anyone over in this game, that I know of.

Ironweakness I have been trying to play for the past hour or so and keep getting the “disconnected from the authentication server” thing.  Longest I managed to play was 8 minutes according to my stop watch /sigh  
Not a great way to start at launch but as a grizzled mmo veteran I guess I have come to expect it even while at the same time I hope it won’t be the case.

It’s actually been like that for a while now unfortunately. At the top of the hour when challenges begin it’s the worst. Thankfully you can log back in quickly but it’s still a problem that needs fixed and the influx of new players will only make it worse.

Been having another look and its still fun while I can actually play but I am getting a little annoyed with all the random disconnects that keep happening.  Oh well launches and all that I guess so it may be better to come back in a few days, at least for me :-)
