League of Legends does not in fact kill off Gangplank for real at all

Losing in a way that's incidentally the same as not in fact losing at all.
Just a few days ago, dear reader, we wrote to you about how League of Legends had done something novel by killing off the character Gangplank in a permanent fashion. A character lost his life in the ongoing story despite being something that people paid for, and the story suddenly held renewed significance.

Only it turns out that rather than killing off Gangplank for real, Riot Games did the exact opposite and he was not killed off for real. He is, in fact, very much alive and will be back in the game’s next major patch, thus rendering any and all speculation regarding his status as “dead” to be wholly false.

The character will have a visual redesign, but players who have played Gangplank during the event or in the stretch after he is re-enabled on Tuesday will have access to a special “classic” skin for the character. It’s not spectacular news for those who were hoping for renewed focus on story in League of Legends, but it’s good news for those who did pay actual money to unlock the character.
