Sword and Bored: Expansion

This year really seems to be the year of the MMO expansion, and I don’t think we can can do an MMO-based comic without talking about an expansion. This week, Mo and Amilya find out that their game has released an expansion, and being the adventures they are, they have to find out what it’s about.

As in many of the episodes of Sword and Bored, we have ask ourselves what would happen if MMORPGs mechanics had real-world effects. I think you’ll see what I mean in this week’s comic…

Ah yes, I remember running into that exact same wall at the northern edge of the Plaguelands…

Not shown–a sales leprechaun leaping out of a nearby shrub to accost Mo for his credit card details. :D

The comic reminds me of when I attempted to be a “srs RPer”. I went out and bought a stair-stepper, placed it under my desk, and if I felt the need to run everywhere, it had to make my own stamina. Yes, so… my character didn’t run for very long intervals. Buut it was nice to get in shape!

It does seem like the first panel is a set up for a completely unrelated joke.   Sort of out of place with the other panels.
Like, the next panel could have been a guy riding a turtle mount, super speeding past them and the mage saying “Oh come on! That’s just ridiculous!”.

Ah yes, when I started WoW, the BC expansion was lingering there, because I didn’t need it yet.  My cousin bought it and I went over to his place to see the bright Blood Elf capital.  Still pondered.

Well, I basically ran into the Dark Portal like Mo a few weeks later.  LOL

Running around town in the middle of the night looking for a box really seems stupid now!

I liked where the first panel was headed.  They should’ve run with that instead!

The next tile a small slot opens where MO can enter his Credit card for access.
