Were you too busy gaming this week to pay attention to MMO news? Get caught up every Sunday evening with Massively Overpowered’s Week in Review!

Blizzard stole Gamescom handily with its possibly rushed but certainly jam-packed reveal of World of Warcraft's next expansion, called simply Legion. It almost took away the sting of losing Bashiok to NCsoft and dropping to 5.6 million subscribers. But will it be enough to stem the tide?

I was hoping for a diablo 3 expac announcement, but oh well.

Only game I am looking forward to right now is Disgaea 5.

I think you missed the nuance on that. The idea in corporate culture where certain workers are relied on so much, they are never allowed leave their positions. Effectively spinning their wheels to their graves, unless they quite and move onto another company that gives them a better position. I am pretty sure that's what happened with Mr. Bashoik.

ManastuUtakata anthonyhar1 I tend to not associate "loved him too much" and "never promoted".  Regardless, best wishes to all entities involved.

I presumed one of the screens taken from one of the zones in Broken Isles for the Legion expansion. Then again, I think that's the first time I've seen birch trees rendered in WoW. o.O

Can anyone tell me what game the main picture from this article is from? Love the art style and open world feel. Is this actually from WoW: legion?

Hmm.
That might be an issue with some people. At least the mobs don't spam a million CC every second like in Orr, but it does feel like you need a few friends running around, or else you'll have to stick to the commanders not to get shredded by everything.

I spent my weekend trying out the GW2 Heart of Thorns beta (somewhat) but pretty soon I went back to playing the original GW2. I have to say the two games (and they are two different games now, imo) are like night and day. ArenaNet dialed up the difficulty level in HoT to such an extent that, for me, anyway, the expansion was a bust, and I regret buying it.
Suddenly getting curb-stomped time and time again even playing classes that I know and have leveled through the rest of the game (Ranger, Necro, and Guardian) by trash mobs and even the general content was just not much fun.
Most people who raise concerns about the difficulty level of HoT (and it IS significantly more difficult) are shouted down in the forums by the "Learn-2-Play, Noob!" crowd.
I have no objections to ArenaNet raising the difficulty bar so much, but they really should warn players regarding what's going to smack them when they enter the Maguuma jungle. HoT felt, to me, like one gigantic 2- to 3-player dungeon -- fun with a partner, perhaps, but kind of a drag if you are on your own.

Perhaps I am getting jaded but all I see when I look at games conventions like Gamescon is a lot of flashing lights and noise with very little in the way of substance.  Everyone seems to be very excited about "things"  while I am just thinking meh and would be hard pressed to think of one single thing that got me excited.
/sigh I have probably just woken up grumpy and I am caffeine deprived.

Yes. And Blizz loved him for that, as they kept him since *2003.  But maybe loved him too much, as he didn't seem to move up any promotion ladder other than bouncing between the two games. And he may have very well been stuck there till he croaked or something if he hadn't jumped to the good ship NC.

Is the same Bashiok who was running D3 boards when it went live?  If that is the case he either got 1000% better at his job or they should be glad to have let him go.  he had to be one of the worst and most condescending customer service reps I have ever come across and that i saying something.

I was so excited when they first talked about Legion. Now, though, I'm not so sure. This will definitely be the first WoW xpac I don't preorder.

Thank you for all the info about Project Gorgon this week. I wasn't very interested in it at first, but after listening to the podcast and reading, I've invested in the kickstarter and am having a huge blast in the game!

...with the hangover already worn off from the "big announcement", it seems all to be coming across as very big elaborated colored egg which may offer little inside once the shell is taken off. Quite a lot like WoD, IMO.

Either way, here's the coverage of today's supposed Q&A for those are interested:
