WRUP: Better baby names edition

Argyle Farts. Mumu of the Pyramid People. Simon, Kyle, and Snorkums. Subject Name Here. Damp. I Have a Human Brain. Relogaz of the Sunless Sky, the Crawling Breath, and the Haze of Pain. Julia Roberts But Not The Julia Roberts. Longsword +1. Hurry Hurry Hurry. Genetic Payload. Mu.

Or just name your child after an entire song's worth of lyrics. Suggestions include "Birdhouse in your Soul" by They Might Be Giants, "Machinehead" by Bush, and "Take it Outside" by Barenaked Ladies. Keep this in mind before you reproduce!

Also, it's What Are You Playing, you know how this works by now. Let us know what you're playing in the comments down below!

Brianna Royce (@nbrianna, blog): I'll likely be working on the new house a ton this weekend, but if I get any gaming time, I have Trove and Marvel Heroes waiting for me, plus my Ultima Online account is on to rescue my house and qualify for the free expansion!

Eliot Lefebvre (@Eliot_Lefebvre, blog):I suppose I'm a big boringly predictable with Final Fantasy XIV and World of Warcraft, aren't I? Fun just the same, though.

Jef Reahard (@jefreahard): I dunno. My The Elder Scrolls Online reinstall lasted for about two days, and neither Lord of the Rings Online nor Star Wars: The Old Republic are doing it for me right now. I may do some crafting in EverQuest II, or I may just make this an MMO-free weekend.

Justin Olivetti (@Sypster, blog): My SWTOR Bounty Hunter is now in Act 2, so I want to keep the momentum going with her. Also, I want to become a cow in Project Gorgon. However, with Odin's Bounty active in Marvel Heroes, I predict that any non-superhero plans will get derailed right quick.

Larry Everett (@Shaddoe, blog): I am currently rebuilding my guild's website, rules, and roleplay. I've officially taken on leadership of the guild, not just filling in. So that kind of stuff will take up the crux of my weekend. If you're interested in popping back into Star Wars: The Old Republic, you can join me if you like. Our guild does a bit of everything. We're smaller, but we do have a max XP boost and a flagship.

MJ Guthrie (@MJ_Guthrie, blog): I am deeply immersed in a new game called Family Vacation, grinding out the achievement "see as much of Ireland as possible" this weekend! The graphics here are stunning, real high quality. And oh man, the shinies!  If I end up in a place with WiFi by the end of the night I will pop into ARK: Survival Evolved to check on my dinosaurs, but that's about it for me.

Tina Lauro (@purpletinabeans): I'll be catching up with Guild Wars 2 now that I'm finally back to my gaming PC! I was really missing my own games and characters while I was away, despite all the fun stuff I got to play during the event.

Pierre: I made the mistake of watching some Skyforge streams and it made me want to check if this game works for me, so Skyforge it will be this weekend. I also felt compelled to go back to Final Fantasy XI (yes XI, no missing V at the end here) and I'm enjoying it. Of course, it's ugly when compared with FFXIV but I find the quest lines more interesting, I feel more invested in the lore, and I feel the game is more challenging than its younger brother. But I may be partial in my judgment because FFXI was my very first MMO, and I had such a good time gathering so many joyful memories playing this game...

I woulda joined up with Larry's guild, but then I realised, you know, I have like no idea what server it's on. I know, there's only like 8, but it could be any one of them!

My pigtails are the same color (or colour) as ham. But they're kosher though...

...that said, yep almost forgot to post something here, as I've been distracted by indulging in a manga marathon...so was taking a break from the online gaming scene. But when I get back: WoW, TERA and WildStar  for me.

Have a great weeks! <3

Also, on the topic of baby names:

@Nordavind Did you know, some countries actually have laws... like a list of names that would not be legally recognized if you chose them. Always found that funny, baby names requiring government intervention.

Going to hit up some SotA.  I haven't played in a few releases.  It can't still be THAT bad, right?  Right!?

Finally slogged they the MSQ in ffxiv to unlock DRK and then logged off as I was cooked from all the 2.x stuff. Resub bed to Wildstar for a quick peek and started a new character, Chua Engineer (what I always wanted at release anyway). Got to level 3, went to sleep.

Anyone know how I get the mouse lock addon to play it like Neverwinter/ESO?

SWTOR. Created all my class story alts and working on the first 1-2 planets for each of them before going back to my main and trying to wrap up all Lv 55 story/content I can. I want 8 Lv 55s by the end of October (I'm likely not buying SoR directly).

I'm looking to my back-burner games for research material/food for thought on my next blog post, so it will be mostly about TSW, ESO and Marvel Heroes this weekend. Assuming, of course, my primary titles don't draw me in.

I can't help it. Draken and Roegadyn are irresistable.

I'm still playing ark but I can feel the boredom setting in. Our base is metal and I even built another tower out of metal. Every dino is now some silly lvl 160+ all tamed 100% with kibble. I have very little left to do other than maintain and that's boring. Can't complain though...500 something hrs for $30 is outstanding value

I've also started playing PoE again and have a really good build going. I really love the character building in this game. Some friends want to play H&G again. I played last night and my first 7 deaths where all headshots from people who are either cheating or very very good. I logged after that not really in the mood so...I'll have to see how that goes.

Been trying to play some EQ2 TLE, and while I've met some really nice people, there are also just too many dicks on the dancefloor. I feel like it's too much to just find a stable, nice gaming environment before someone steamrolls your enjoyment with falsely placed elitism and jackassery. What do you do when you like a game more than its players?

Working on repairing an iMac's internal hardware i loaded up the most intensive thing on it that didn't require gigs of updates, which happened to be WoW. Had a bit of a dick around Tanaan and yeesh, after playing Heavensward everyday for the last 2 months the difference in server population in endgame areas is still kind of staggering. Hopefully Legion sorts that out for them because christ Warlords is such a trainwreck at this point.

Then time to catch up on the August DLC for Monster Hunter 4U, ride never ever ends.

EQ2 still.  Got my swashy to 50 on the TLE server, now I need to make money, craft and gear up and play some alts.  Very tempted to resub to WoW and introduce my 10 and 9 year old to it and have a blast playing as a family.

Maxed Gunner, Cryo and about half way to maxing Witch on Skyforge. But... playing Armored Warfare (AW) this weekend. Very nice. (I'm not a WoT player - never installed it) Just a shame that EA4 is temporary and will be wiped, totally looking forward to progression in AW.

eLdritchMD

@BalsBigBrother @eLdritchMD @Twitticle I love it. It does the genre in a much more "western" and friendly way, I think ^^

Oh and no matter what tier you play you always feel useful and like your vehicle is actually good. Even in the Tier 1 tanks. =)

I'm pretty hooked on ESO atm. Getting ready for Wildstar f2p. Gotta say wow is really looking less and less of a major player in my book.

I dunno.  My PC gaming mood has been at a huge low this week.  But if I do play something it'll likely be Project Gorgon, Champions Online, or Mabinogi as far as MMOs go.  Otherwise I'll probably be progressing on Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag on the 360 (started playing it earlier this week, finding it to be the best AC I've played so far, second place being Brotherhood), further building up my vault on Fallout Shelter (just came out on Android and I'm hooked to it somehow), and/or continuing my playthrough of Super Robot Taisen: Original Generation via a GBA emulator on my Android phone (because I've been in a huge mood for tactical RPGs featuring badass mechs).

ARK! And more Ark! We have some oil now, so we can make a fabricator and get started on the modern tier as soon as we grab some more crystals. Our house is right outside the north cave, so that shouldn't take long.

I also bought StarMade on the latest Humble Bundle, so I might give it a try and see if the UI is improved over the free version of the game.

Our weekly group hasn't been able to play 7 Days 2 Die in a few weeks, so I'm looking forward to getting back into that tomorrow night.

@deekay_zero @Bannex19 you totally ruined my reply!  wondered why it disappeared.  Still, it is more than possible to play mmos and even find enjoyment in the sandboxy features of themeparks while still detesting themeparks. I know I do.

Bannex19
Bannex19

I think Jef likes games before they come out and then quickly becomes disenchanted. But then again Jef is Jef, I'm not gonna put words in his mouth or dissect his gaming history.

It just seems like more often than not he complains about the games he "likes". Granted he wrote that soapbox about being excited for the future of mmos but that only proves my point that the idea of a game seems more interesting to him than the reality.

Damonvile

@Bannex19 I think you'll find lots of people on forums that like what they like and talk about what they hate.

Sorenthaz
Sorenthaz

@Bannex19  You can still like aspects of themeparks and still hate the themepark model at the same time.

Also there really aren't any good sandboxes out yet that offer a compelling PvE experience that isn't muddied by forced PvP.

Still playing SWTOR and holding to playing just -one- MMO! :) I've been running a story arc with a few friends, and hope to obtain a guild stronghold by the end of the weekend. I admit to that my eyes are crossing from lockbox hunting, and the monotony of that type of "gameplay" is sending my thoughts off to wanting to play another game. I'm trying to go in moderation so I don't burn out.

Going to try to convince my brother and friends to download 'Dead Realm' tonight, a "horror themed hide and seek" online co-op game. If that doesn't happen then some WWII fun in H&G or try to get back into playing ESO which I took a break from playing a few months ago because of burnout.

In the meantime I'm going to go and try to snap some pictures (from a distance) of the Star Trek: Beyond movie set being built down the road from me. I haven't driven by in a week curious to see they got it finished yet. Pics to be posted in One Shot tomorrow =)

I'm be playing SWTOR mostly, I reached 60 for the first time last week, finished the story on Ziost, and now I'm working on a second 60, a Sith sorcerer. I'm at level 56 (she was already at 40) and almost done with Makeb. I like seeing that story from both sides.

But the best part? This awesome piece of head gear. Wolfyseyes dubbed me "Darth Pinecone." Sadly, I think that's a superior name to the one they give you during the class story.

This weekend, some WoW off and on. Finished up Draenor Pathfinder. Still no sign of flight. Project Gorgon when I get time.

I was hit by the baking bug lately, so must bake all things. Today working on homemade buns and a type of sloppy joes. Tomorrow, homemade burritos. That'll keep me busy.

LiKao

Relative new reader and relative new mmo player here.

I'm mainly playing FF14 (great) and dabbling in Star Wars (a little boring) everyday or so. I'm also looking at the sandbox genre, which looks quite fascinating - I never had the opportunity to play one of these games. So today is Project Gorgon day. And it's cool.

Also tempted by The Repopulation.

Oh and yeah, too many games, but I'm also trying to see where my limit is. I've always been a one-game player and would like to expand that threshold a little.

MJ Guthrie

@LiKao I don't think it is realistic to expect to stick to just one game once you start reading MOP.  You just hear about too many cool things to try!!

whiskysour

@MJ Guthrie @LiKao This pretty much sums it up. I started playing WoW about a year into BC, that's all I played or really knew for years. Started reading wow.joystiq which lead me to you guys and the rest is history, my gaming collection went from 2 to probably 150. Sad I just don't have the time to really get into them all, I don't know how you do it.

GW2 this weekend. For whatever reason, I've been enjoying my new human guardian alt despite apathy for the profession in the past. Not playing it on a lumbering Norn helps a great deal.

Somehow I've been able to achieve my highest hardcore level ever in Path (lol74) so I feel compelled to take it as far as I can go.  Previously my highest was lol39.  My goal for the round was l60 which I've obviously surpassed.   I'm pleased with this whole situation - even though everytime I play the character I am awaiting the pangs of death - because it absolutely has to be coming and soon.

Armsbend
Armsbend

@BalsBigBrother stressful but exciting.  Today I was looking for Zana in a map, found her but her map she was in one of those mods that spawns beyond characters when you kill guys too close.  The map was full of the red explodey and blue little octopus things so beyond monsters were constantly popping and trying to rip me.  They came so close so many times but I nabbed Zana.  I now keep her prisoner in my hideout.

BalsBigBrother
BalsBigBrother

@Armsbend Good luck and may you stave of deaths embrace for as long as possible. You beat my highest for h/c which was 50 something.  It was a fun thing to try but it made me by necessity cautious which is not always a fun way to play, at least for me, so I don't tend to do hardcore much these days.
