Devilian’s South Korea server is shutting down

Is Devilian in trouble? It may be too early to tell, but developer Ginno Games has announced the closure of the title’s South Korea server and its reacquisition of rights from publisher Hangame. MMO Culture reports that player data will be preserved until a new publisher is found.

Devilian is scheduled to receive a new content update which includes a fifth playable class that was teased for the game’s Chinese version.

Trion Worlds is publishing Devilian in the west.

hardy83 LordSolarMacharius “Cash grab” has a very negative connotation to it. Typically, it’s selling a substandard or falsely advertised product to make a quick buck versus something of quality. That’s exactly what Trion did with ArcheAge.

Veldan Zariarn  Both games have been very successful after their F2P transition.  I’ve played both and I’ve seen both.  TERA’s numbers skyrocketed after their transition.

Joseph C Trion actually RIPPED ME OFF with ArcheAge. I bought the original Archeum Founder’s Pack and they defrauded me according to pretty much every nation out there with decent consumer protection laws (10% store discount boondoggle). They deserve all the hate they get and then some. A company that will break the law to make a few more bucks and put it in their business model is beneath contempt in my books.

So Trion bought a game even the Koreans don’t like? Surprise surprise.

Veldan Zariarn Tera makes more revenue in the West than the East.

Zariarn Well that depends on what you define as very well. I think given their western population numbers, the only reason they can still exist is that development is done in Asia so that the western playerbases don’t have to fund it by themselves. If that were the case, I doubt either game would still be running.

Zophie Winters Cambruin I don’t play any Blizzard game, but that’s due to the kind of games they wish to present rather than the platform they use. Why that question? An attempt to classify?

Its a publisher problem. The publisher doesnt want to do MMOs anymore on the pc.
