Massively OP Podcast Episode 26: Failcom

In the lull between conventions, Larry and Justin turn their attention to a hodge-podge of MMO industry news. On the show today, the duo discuss WildStar's F2P patch, Funcom for sale, Darkfall's soft wipe, and the umpteenth iteration of Hellgate: London.

It's the Massively OP Podcast, an action-packed hour of news, tales, opinions, and gamer emails! And remember, if you'd like to send in your own letter to the show, use the "Tips" button in the top-right corner of the site to do so.

Nordavind It's called tongue-in-cheek, and considering MOP seems to always have good things to say about TSW I don't think they want it to fail.

Flimflamberge shayneary Derp, I completely forgot about Massively Opinionated at the time of comment. It was pretty late ^.^

Nordavind The title fits considering they did the Lego game.

Can Larry be a recurring third host of the podcast? I always love hearing his thoughts and you guys sounded like heaps of fun this episode!

Skipping this cast due to title. You're better than this, MOP.

Polyanna I think it was a jab at people who might call it that, like making fun of people that turn everything into "Something-gate." They definitely weren't dancing on Funcom's grave on the podcast, but I can see how you might get that impression if you didn't listen to the podcast and saw the title out of context. I'm pretty sure it's just a poor choice of using an inside joke in the title.

I don't have any ill will for the title of this post. If anything it brings to light possible poor decisions the higher ups were involved in. I do wish TSW and Funcom the best but only time will tell.

Is "Failcom" a jab at the impending collapse of Funcom? If so, not funny. And not at all nice or in keeping with the editorial tone of this site.

You guys often post about how the failure of any game or company in this segment is a loss to us all, and that's true. They made plenty of bad decisions, no doubt, but not for want of trying. There's no need to kick them while they're down.

Funcom has always made games that are right there on the edge of being my go-to mmo's for a long time. You would think they would have learned their lesson going back to Anarchy Online still being rated as the , or one of , the worst launches ever , that then later on became great.

AoC had Tortuga and some fun initial gameplay even after but quickly grew stale (best soundtrack ever though).

TSW for me I loved , and hated unfortunately. The combat animations , the worst combat animations I've seen in a modern game , and jumping felt as awkward as possible. I was playing a game I hated looking at if I was fighting.

SIgh , a shame really.
