Revival opens up houses for owners to wander

Ready to wander around your house in Revival? The first version of the game’s client is now available to virtual homeowners, allowing players to step into the game world and wander around their homes. Players cannot yet interact with anything in those homes, as that’s coming in a future update; all this particular client allows players to do is look around and admire the architecture. It is very pretty architecture.

The official announcement explains the process for connecting to the game and logging into any houses owned, with players granted one of five random placeholder models on login. Future updates to the client will add the ability to modify the house’s furnishings and layout. It’s not really a game just yet, but it’s the foundation of one.

TheChiefTurtle Lethality Ravven Illfonic has sold a ton of property in the last 24 hours.  :P

Luckily you can insure your house . Worse comes to worse you have to rebuild. I was deathly scared of losing the money I had invested early on, but as more discussion has taken place on the topic , totally losing your land isn’t going to be that common . It sounds like it would take a lot of neglect to do so.

Players ‘can’ interact with items inside the house.
Lights, torches, fireplaces all turn on and off . Doors open and close.
Honestly, I’m floored by this Stage release . I spent a good hour plus walking around checking out the lighting, the detail in the woodwork, etc. Illfonic has done astonishingly beautiful work here.
The music is fantastic as well. And the placeholder character models? Hardly placeholder material. A couple in particular look as good as anything on the market today.
Revival can’t launch soon enough.

Ravven Jaed  Yeah I agree about the organization. And while there is a metric crapton of info on the site, it could produce eyeglaze… ;)

I was about to dive in, then I had flashbacks of the captain quarters and decided to wait…the nightmares about the eternally locked door!

TheChiefTurtle Ravven  Take a look at the heat maps (upper right white map icon). Location = general desireability, and the others are self-explanatory.

Lethality TheChiefTurtle Ravven  Yeah, it basically sounds like a larger scale MMO version of stuff I’ve done in a few RP MUDs/online games that maybe get like 20-100 regular people at best (with a good % being shitty RPers but that’s beside the point) where admins run story events and stuff and the story is directly impacted by players.
Sounds really exciting and it’s the biggest reason that I’m having high hopes for Revival.

They are not depending on housing sales for monetization. At least according to them.

Tribute to the Gods: Revival Interview with Creative Director Kedhrin Gonzalez

Kedhrin Gonzalez: We didn’t do housing instead of a Kickstarter, that is a huge misconception. I understand how it can happen with all the crowdfunding going on, but that is not how we are making the game. Our initial offering of houses is limited to 500 houses per our initial cities (per server), so in the beginning there will only be 5,000 houses. Selling all of these houses will not get Revival the finances to make the entire game. We are financing Revival on our own, additional money gained on the way helps us get there faster but we are not relying on it.

Jaed Ravven It wan’t a criticism of the game. :) The site could just use more usability and the information organized a lot better.

TheChiefTurtle  Not sure why you are having trouble, check the links at the top of the site and it will walk you through everything.

Ravven  Wow there’s tons of info on the website, though I agree it could use more organization. If you have questions, just ask and someone will point you to info.

blackparrot89 It is the Star Citizen monetization model. Sell people virtual goods they can look at and speculate about while the game is early in development.

TheChiefTurtle Ravven Gold Servers, even with all of the other amazing systems and design, are going to be the slam-dunk defining feature of Revival.
More than just a live team doing events, they will actually (behind the scenes and leveraging the game’s systems knowledge of player actions) will actually shape the world with the players taking center stage. Players will be the star of the narrative. It really is bringing roleplaying back.

TheChiefTurtle The website is laid out pretty much in the order you should view it; it talks through all of the above and more. So through: Philosophy, Features. Schedule and About. Then read all of the Blogs.By then you will be armed well enough to enter the store or not :)

Ravven TheChiefTurtle On Blackwell too. Gold servers are pay per month, and the other servers are free to play. Gold servers have 24/7 storytellers, something I experienced a few times in early days of EQ. Always longed for more of that kind of engagement from a game.
Some info on Gold servers: https://www.revivalgame.com/features/live_storytelling
Storytellers do more than simply kick-off content packages and peruse game metrics. Our tools allow us to reach into the world and act as directly as any player. From the lowliest wandering beast, to the greatest monster of the deep, and everywhere in-between.
Far more than a simple cadre of guides, Storytellers can take possession of any creature in the world. They may deliver prophecy, raise armies, or guide adventurers to new lands. They may appear as man or beast, beggar or god. The Storytellers are hands-on content creators that can (and will) interact with the playerbase at any time, creating dynamic stories and opening the door to endless possibility.

Overall very ambitious and with that ambition is a measure of caution from those interested in it. :) I relate well to the Illfonic folks, its like they might have sat at a PnP game with me years ago thinking about “wouldn’t it be cool” scenarios. I am hopeful for them and for us as players that they call pull off a lot of what they intend.

Also a good read here –
https://www.revivalgame.com/blog/8-weekly-blog-update-8-i-swear-i-read-that-somewhere
… you won’t find a quest by looking for NPCs with “!” over their heads…
…Our answer is to provide a flow of information in the game in the form of gossip, rumor, lore and scholarly research. As players talk to NPCs, or eavesdrop on conversations, they become exposed to information about the world. Our systems note this in the background and open different conversation choices, NPC encounters and potential game events for those players with the appropriate exposure…
Snipehunter and others communicate on the forums daily, they are very responsive to questions and have presented a lot of information about what they are doing in that way.

TheChiefTurtle Ravven I bought a small one on the US server Blackwell (although I’m EU). Evidently gold servers will require a sub to play on, but will also have a
live storytelling team creating quests and live events for everyone to
participate in, which sounds pretty cool. There may be a chance of losing your house when the game goes live, so be wary. I just wanted to support the game even though there isn’t a lot of info about it right now.

Ravven which server did you select? and what the difference between gold servers and normal ones? I´d like buy a small one too but need more info on a few things

I took a chance and bought a house today, it will be interesting to see how the game progresses. I agree that the site really needs work, though – they need a lot more information there. And yeah…since we’ll never have World of Darkness, this will have to console me. :)

I really like the guys of Illfonic but the website needs a serious overhaul, I have no clue how that game works after browsing around for like 15 minues. What´s a gold server? What are the normal servers? If I purchase a house, say on a EU server, which one to pick? I read houses can be lost, is there an insurance? Otherwise the game sounds intriguing, kinda like CCP planned World of Darkness, right?
Also the funding options could be presented in a better overview. Will this go to Kickstarter at some point?

blackparrot89 it´s obviously an integral part of the game. You do the backbone stuff first I´d reckon

blackparrot89 I’d add that housing produces a huge sense of investment. The game is years from Stage 6 launch so keeping folks engaged along the way is important. And walking around my large-ish house definitely produces a sense of ownership and excitement for the next stages of rollout.

blackparrot89 Who says housing isn’t ‘important stuff’ in Revival? :)
Anyhow, the are taking a staged development and release approach. Getting certain functionality in the hands of players sooner rather than later, etc.
They’ve explained that they wanted to start with cities, since those would represent a slice of all types of systems available in the rest of the game. And houses are the cornerstone of cities, and then they build out from there – allowing players to exit their homes into the cities, etc.
Definitely follow the blogs and the forums, the devs are super interactive and the systems design will blow you away.

Can someone explain me, why are they focusing on housing first, instead of working on the important stuff first?
