The MOP Up: All news must go!

The MMO industry moves along at the speed of information, and sometimes we’re deluged with so much news here at Massively Overpowered that some of it gets backlogged. That’s why there’s The MOP Up: a weekly compilation of smaller MMO stories and videos that you won’t want to miss. See any good MMO news? Hit us up through our tips line!

This week, all news must go! It’s our biggest MOP Up yet, with over two dozen stories and videos from Guild Wars 2, WildStar, EverQuest II, World of Warcraft, Star Wars: The Old Republic, and more!

New Games

  • We Are Heroes: What do you get when you merge an RPG with a MOBA? This game, apparently. It will boast both a single-player campaign and a PvP MOBA mode. Expect to see it by the year’s end for mobile devices.
  • ELOA: Webzen signed an agreement with NPICSOFT to bring Elite Lord of Alliance (ELOA) to North America and Europe. The anime MMO will begin beta testing this fall for a late 2015 release. [Source: Webzen press release]
  • Mabinogi Duel: Mabinogi Duel, a digital card game based on the MMO property, has soft launched for both iOS and Android devices.
  • Call of Champions: Spacetime Studios’ “speed MOBA” is now out for mobile devices. Players can pick it up for free and play quick five-minute matches.
  • For the King: Looking for a challenge? Then check out this co-op roguelike, which sends small parties off to their doom as they quest through an “unforgivable” living world. The game has already shot past its Kickstarter goal and is asking for Steam Greenlight votes.
  • Order and Chaos 2: The sequel to the hit mobile MMO is now live worldwide for both Android and iOS devices. [Thanks to kyler and bensku for the tip!]

Events and Contests

Patches

  • Marvel Heroes: Patch 1.71 is in effect with lots of item drop rate changes and the start of another Odin’s Bounty event. [patch notes]
  • Final Fantasy XI: The game’s September 16th update added a new quest, tweaked a few zones and respawnrates, added high-tier battlefields, and made more chairs available for sitting. [patch notes]
  • Ultima Online: The newest patch for the Time of Legends expansion is on the test server with plenty of fixes and improvements. [patch notes]

Syppi Yeah, that’s pretty radical. Kudo’s to Bree for that, I wish I had something similar to that for a few tasks at my job : P

Greaterdivinity Syppi Heh what it is is helpful. Bree created a nice addon that auto-tags games for us, which seriously saves us a lot of time (although we still hand-enter some games and tags). We didn’t always have an auto-tagger, and it added a couple of minutes to creating every post. That adds up.

Heh.  So the Diablo HotS easter egg is in the same vein as the Harrison Jones ones in Sky Temple/Tomb of the Spider Queen, where you click specific environmental objects and Harrison Jones will pop out and then swiftly exit the scene (Sky Temple’s was actually him climbing out of the Spider Queen map). Then upon victory/defeat he’ll either fly by on his magic carpet (Sky Temple) or drop down on his rope (Spider Queen) to wave.

Kind of hope they retroactively add easter eggs to every map.  I’m still disappointed that you can’t blow up the pigs in one of the maps that has them.  Heck, I’m surprised they haven’t added in an explodable sheep anywhere yet.
Guessing they might do something like that when they eventually do Starcraft themed maps or make some specifically Warcraft themed maps.  Sounds like there’s a plan to basically do similar to what they did with the Diablo summer stuff (i.e. have a special event and then produce some new maps/heroes focused on Starcraft/Warcraft) for the other two IPs.  So that will be interesting to see.

I’m kind of scared for TwitchCon and GW2.  Sure the HoT launch trailer they plan to reveal might be good, but track record says otherwise.  Only a handful of their trailers have been any good since the launch of the game; and all those were more in-game/for players about the Living Story events.  Fractals Trailer. Scarlet Trailer.  Tower of Nightmares trailer.  All really good.    The taxi cab thing was a nightmare itself.  The launch trailer was like….like they hired a drug addicted abstract artist riding a skateboard.       So they certainly should have taken the community feedback on their public image as far a these things go for their first expansion.

I’m guessing Neverwinter, considering that the tag is Savaltore.jpg and the Neverwinter part of the article mentions his name.
