Infinity’s Kickstarter is two thirds complete with two weeks to go

Is this a new golden age for space sims? Could be, what with Elite: Dangerous, Star Citizen, and seemingly dozens of other high-profile projects springing up on Kickstarter in recent years. The latest such is Infinity: Battlescape, an ambitious and long-in-development space shooter from I-Novae Studios that boasts a procedurally generated universe, seamless transitions from space to planets, and Newtonian physics.

Star Citizen founder Chris Roberts recently took a moment to highlight Infinity on the Star Citizen website, calling it “a real winner” and pointing interested community members toward the new title’s gameplay videos and Kickstarter page.

As of press time, Infinity has raised over $210,000 of a $300,000 goal with 14 days to go.

jauffins 9thLEGION Derek Smart needs to never be out of the picture when it comes to these games, he is the boogieman we must always be reminded of, before he hisses venom out of nowhere after we think all has been well and quiet.

Yes, he has earlier written similar notes about –

Elite: Dangerous
Shroud of the Avatar
Underworld Ascendant
Crowfall
Descent: Underground
The Bard’s Tale IV
Everspace

At least some I found after a quick search on RSI.

9thLEGION Really, guys? The Derek Smart comments, again?

9thLEGION Oh, he already has.  You know him, says that he is the greatest developer ever, claiming only he can make these games, while not able to make his own game.

ApathyCurve rioinsignia CR has always had no problem promoting other people’s work, even backed Elite Dangerous back when they started.  But yeah, I get that feeling as well.

Wonder how long it takes for a certain someone to attack it and then claim he is the only one who can save it? I’m guessing 6 months.

Agreed.  Of course, it also has the second-order effect of snubbing That Other Person, which adds considerably to the entertainment value if the project ends up getting funded.  Subtle insults are always the best.

Seems they are well on their way to reaching their funding goal.
I would back it myself, but I’m not sure that the game would be of interest to me, and I really cannot afford it right now.
But I certainly hope they get the funding they need to make this game for several reasons.
I was impressed by the trailer, it was really good.
They seem to have put allot of effort into getting this far, so in my opinion they deserve the chance to show what they can do.
And we need more games like this, the genre has been “dead” for too long.

rioinsignia  Yes, but it is also a point of funding for an MMO to come out of it down the road. Developers with this type of vision for a game engine need our help. :) I wish Eve would do this.

I put my cash into this one. To be blunt, this project is simply the game I want to play.

Cartap The seamless transitions look cool, a nice feature but I’m not sure the overall premise is enough for it to be considered a popular in the long term.  After all, it’s basically just a large scale battle arena.

The planetary transitions in this game looks almost too good to be true. As you get closer higher levels of detail come visible completely seamlessly, very much like you would expect in real life. Seems to be by far the best engine around for this type of game.

THIS is how REAL and CLASSY developers react to each other:  They show respect to one another.
Something that other so-called developers seemingly know nothing about.

Same with Elite. He truly does want to bring back the genre and not afraid of competition. Screw the haters. Classy move Roberts.

Possibly. But it’s not the first time Roberts has braught attention to other projects. I seem to remember at least 5 others covered in a similar fashion.

Mark my words, just because Roberts said something he easily is going to get another 50K for this project at least.

Classy move on Roberts’ part. Hope the game gets funded.
