Dogma: Eternal Night launches on Kickstarter

Still feeling sad about the loss of that MMO about vampires stalking the streets? Dogma: Eternal Night is a game about a world where it is dark. You might even call it the “place of not-brightness.” And it’s on Kickstarter right now, if a sandbox MMORPG based around vampiric player characters sounds like exactly your cup of tea.

The current goal for the game is to hit $100,000 of funding over the next 30 days, with stretch goals moving up to $500,000 at the moment. If you think this is exactly what you’d like to support, feel free to toss some money toward making the game a crowdfunded reality.

I posted a concern about the kickstarter on dogmas forums, instead of addressing it they deleted the post….I would steer very clear of this one.

Also, am I the only one who expects Paradox to move against this game?
I mean the last thing they need with their newly acquired IP is having “Earth of lightlessness” plagiarizing every aspect of their properties.

ddocentral Nordavind Astald If they really go that way I can see Paradox’s infringement hammer falling from miles away.

After CCP’s WoD fiasco I’m not interested in a WoD MMO right now.
Hopefully Paradox delivers something more akin to, fan favourite, VtM: Bloodlines.

Nordavind Astald You can stay human if That’s your cup of tea! Plus I think you can just do pvp or pve stuff but i could be far off :P

I think I’lljust wait for whatever Praradox has in mind rather than back a gankbox ‘open PVP’ vampire game.

Nordavind Astald The Hunter is a stretch goal of the Dogma Kickstarter. Other “classes” that are planned include Werewolves, Wraiths, Demons, and so on but its Humans and Vampires for now.

Astald Nordavind The setting (Underworld feeling) and the parkour movement interested me. The things that I now learned about that changed my opinion are:
1) You can only be a vampire.
2) The “social” gameplay is not my cup of tea.

I backed it.  We need a WoD game.  Revival is probably further out than this.  Looks good.

Perma death? Nah. I’m all for a supernatural MMO that isn’t TSW (we need more modern MMOs), but this isn’t my cup of tea.

I’m all for a VtMB or Requiem esk mmo but fear the exact same idea was on CCP’s bloody hands for a long time and mismanaged and neglected as it was its a tough nut to crack! Also saying this is ambitious is an understatement.

I commend all vampire game concepts that look good, and it looks amazing (in concept) but vague enough to set my spidey sense aflame. Good luck to them, and if viable in early alpha i’ll be there cash in hands to throw at it! o/

system requirements seem a bit steep ….

They should rename it “Dogme: Eternal Night”. And have the entire MMO viewed from a shaky handheld camera mode… >.>

Sorenthaz Sounds like popular streamers or Youtubers will just cheat the system if I am reading correctly.

Sorenthaz I have the feeling this game is much earlier in development than let on, and they might not even be sure what type of systems will be in place period, let alone systems that griefers will be able to exploit.

Nordavind Can I ask what originally interested you in the game that has now changed your opinion?

The top tier contributors get an in game puppy companion named Dogmat…

In the past this game has sounded interesting, but I now see that this is not for me.

Yes, there will be free-roam, open world PvP and PvE. However, the main idea of the project is social interaction between players. That means you will be able to receive great power and influence within the game without committing any murder, using only your personal qualities. Besides, players who are used to achieving these objectives only by force are going to face a set of problems along the way.”

See that’s stupidly ambiguous and makes me hesitant to back it.  Because that’s the only real spot where they talk about PvP/PvE and if you give people the tools to be assholes they will indeed be assholes and will do everything within their power to make other players’ lives miserable in games like this.  Yeah P2P will definitely lessen that behavior but it will still be a problem, and people will exploit the shit out of the game systems to mess with others.   It happens in every other game that claims that they have systems in place to detract that behavior.

Might be tempted to back it, but will probably wait on backing it til later on after more info is released.  Specifically in regards to how the PvP will be handled.  I really don’t want another gankbox where PvPers will just overpower PvEers/RPers in order to control the world/story/etc.   But the AC-style parkour and obvious Vampire the Masquerade influences (i.e. calling vampires “Kindred” and having multiple “organizations” or “Sabbaths” as opposed to clans) make it sound really really interesting and like it could be very worthwhile to help make a success.
Either way I hope this does succeed.  Would be great to see an MMO of this nature enter the MMO space (as long as it doesn’t devolve into a gankbox) and whatnot.
Hell what would be really cool (although kind of unlikely) is if this Dogma team/project was picked up by Paradox so that it could be an actual World of Darkness MMO rather than skirting around potential IP conflicts.

BTW, Dogma will be a vampire sandbox, not a theme park as your notes indicate.

Excited about this one. Dogma may be the only chance to see a sandbox MMO for vampires.
