EverQuest’s multibox-free progression server is coming December 9th

We first heard about the possibility of a bot-free EverQuest progression server back at E3. Now on December 9th, that server will become a reality. Called Phinigel, this server is a true box server, meaning that only one EQ account can be played per computer. Anyone wanting to multi-box will need to have a different computer set up for each account. This measure was developed to help solve the problem of the third-party boxing programs that have plagued the other progression servers.

Other features of this server include regular content updates every 90 days (no voting) and putting the big raid targets from each expansion in instances (with a 6.5 day account-wide lockout for each boss) as well as out in the contested world. As on the other progression servers, All-access membership is required to play on Phinigel.

Some players are less than happy about the timing of the announcement, however, as folks have been expressing concern that The Broken Mirror is living up to its moniker. From issues that force players to abandon and restart raids to placeholder text still on tooltips, the expansion appears to be suffering from a bug infestation.
