The best MMO deals in the Steam winter 2015 sale

It’s the holiday season! A time for cuddling up before a cozy fire, enjoying loved ones, sharing memories, and… just kidding. It’s time to raid Steam’s sales and get some vidya games dirt cheap!

Here’s some of the stuff most useful for MMO players this round.

In related news, Final Fantasy XIV is on sale for just a few bucks in the Square Enix Humble Bundle edition through the holidays. Thanks, Siphaed!

Enjoy the sales, and may you never see this, as I did all morning and afternoon:

sorry

Ceder I suspect players have gotten too good at flash sales to a point where few bought games outside.
80%+ off the normal price is maybe not sustainable for long for many developers.
PC is still the cheaper platform to buy games by a very large margin.

Elite dangerous is still not an mmo. I don’t know why you guys insist on calling 32 players massive,

Thanks again for the great info pointing to great deals. :) Added some expacts to LOTRO, DCOU and DDO that I otherwise wouldn’t have known about.
How’s that for sales, advertisers??? ;)

LordOfBread SneakySmirk I’m always skeptical of Steam reviews because half the time I see trollish reviews (especially in games that involve a lot of boobs) and other times they ALWAYS start out positive when then game comes out.

SneakySmirk Elite´s Steam reviews are in the gutter for a reason. Don´t waste your money. Get Life is Strange, you´ll have lot more fun with that.

direpath CloakingDonkey Denngar Definitely worth a buy at that price, its quality.

I’m just hoping for a new Sam and Max like these.

CloakingDonkey Denngar  Truthiness. Walking Dead is so good. I have been slowly picking away at Season 1 and  it has been a very emotional ride.

There is a Square Enix Humble Bundle out now as well. It includes FFXIV: ARR. Picked it up yesterday for myself. I think the minimum price for everything was $8.99 at the time. Very inexpensive entry into a very good game. Also that is not all you get…

Ceder Yes, It sounds reasonable. This, or suspending the refund policy just during the winter sales.

Not Steam, but: I’ve got a key for FF XIV to spare (I don’t know if it includes 30 days playtime, it’s from the Square Enix xmas surprise box). If anyone wants it: just answer me here. First one gets it, so no lottery or something like that. :D

I would love to jump in that Elite Dangerous sale but it just seems silly to me to buy the base game when horizons includes it

CloakingDonkey

Ceder yes it’s because of the no-questions-asked refund policy. They can’t do varying sales because they’re worried people would refund games to rebuy them for cheaper which generates costs for valve. So instead we’re getting a lot of median value discounts.

I was reading on steam forums that it seems there are no more flash sales etc and that the current prices are basically what you get for the entirety of the sales event.  That’s a shame.

Denngar well if you liked the other tell tale games and you like the walking dead universe then do get it. It’s more of the same tell tale experience, really and the story is absolutely worth it. My favourite game of 2012 =)

Live is Strange is in the SE Humble Bundle.  Pick it up there for cheap with quite a few other games.

*stares at ARK* I always say I’m going to buy you, but I just can’t bring myself to do it as long as you say alpha. I’m sorry, but I’ve been burned too many times.

(Also, super tempted to get Walking Dead season 1&2 from TellTale; I finally got through The Wolf Among Us “thanks” to a few sleepless nights, and Game of Thrones was decent enough until the end but… mm, I dunno if I should).

LordSolarMacharius breetoplay zoomcns  Yeah, sales for steam are generally given the go months ahead (at least the big ones) of the fact… good to see the dev noting that and being straight with the info!

You can usually find good deals here: https://www.humblebundle.com/  and whats best is the money you spend goes to charity.

@Liandreth I’ll pony up if they offer Heavensward as well. Going to be fun gifting these games on Steam.

breetoplay LordSolarMacharius zoomcns You’re most welcome. I appreciate zoomcms clarifying that the developer is blameless for the Steam mixup on the pricing. I’ve been tempted to give Perpetuum a try for a while now. Maybe now is the time :)

Liandreth That’s a good deal. I hope they add Heavensward to the package for $20 or something. Even though I own several of the products they are selling, I’d be tempted.

Baemir LordSolarMacharius schlag sweetleaf Doesn’t matter. I could still be a douche and put up some graphic about how crappy SC is because it’s barely functional. I can play the technical alpha for Kingdom Come: Deliverance and not experience near as many bugs or CTDs. Not even close.

schlag sweetleaf The Derek Smart hateorade is stale at this point. With flies in it. And a cigarette butt. I could post a similar picture about Star Citizen because Star Citizen is so buggy it won’t run stable on my laptop for more than 10-15 minutes without a CTD.

DeadlyAccurate I backed the kickstarter for $80 USD and got shockingly little compared to what is in the cash shop now. The cash shop in Shroud of the Avatar is almost as ridiculous as the one in Star Citizen. Really, really overpriced.

Full game, all issues up to and including #11, side stories, exclusive outfit, starting weapons, and exp boosts all for $23.99! If you haven’t tried TSW but are even a little curious, you’d be crazy not to jump on that!

DeadlyAccurate
Cash shop galore!  Be warned now that everything nice in the game is in the cash shop and it is heavily relied on it.  Since the game “isn’t PvP” some claim that it is not P2W and doesn’t matter. My personal opinion is entirely opposite and think it is P2W.  Whatevers.

Shroud of the Avatar is $22.50. Is it worth getting at that price? I’ve been in the mood for an MMO or MMO-like game lately, but I can’t really tell how that game is coming along.
