Black Desert’s character creator tool available; CBT2 begins February 18

If you’re most interested in when you can get back into playing Black Desert Online again, the answer is on February 18th. It’s just that straightforward. Don’t trust us, trust the official Twitter account:

…wait, did that say something about a character creator? Oh, yes it did. So even if you’re not eager to play the game again or aren’t eligible for the second closed beta, you can have free rein with the character creation tool. If you are eagerly awaiting that second closed beta, you can figure out what sort of character you want to make before the servers come back online. It’s a little something for everyone today.

melissaheather MatthewYetter karmamule Secoond Life is good when you get a good skin and shape combination going and the amount of stuff people have figured out how to replace with better things (hands, feet, lips, eyes, ears) with mesh variants or even full on mesh bodies and heads.) is quite interesting. I wonder if people realize just how far you can deviate into specific looks and how wildly they can differ.

As an example here is a friend of mine’s avatar. You can do a lot of crazy things in second life with your visual appearance. And sadly many people think it looks bad simply because they see newbies and assume that is what the entire thing is. There are fantastic builds, avatars and tons of other stuff in second life that can look visually stunning and then there is also utter crap, it is entirely up to the user what they grab or create and while second life could allow for some higher resolution textures (a limit at 1024×1024 is ehh) it can simply be done very very well.

karmamule MatthewYetter Eve’s character creator is probably the best overall and sadly it’s not used for much of anything.

After playing with it a bit…
+  Can make a character really small or fat if you want to.
+  Can make a character with skin hues that could pass for Indian or African.
+  Great selection of hair colors, and even multiple colors.
+  Great selection of long hairstyles on female toons.

–  All eye styles look Asian (perhaps that’s just my incompetence though)
–  Shortest hair you can give a female toon is a bob. No shaved heads. No mohawks, etc.

–  Nobody has curly or kinky hair (like nearly all Africans do).

–  Names don’t allow apostrophes or hypens (so crappy support for native names).
–  Female melee fighters all wear high heels (same as all other Asian devs, but seriously wtf?)
–  Horrible clipping issues with long hair. If you are going to force it on almost all female toons, at least clip it properly.

Holy crap, 6 gigs is a bit much just for a character creator.

Requires to you create a game account with them to use too. I highly suspect its actually a preliminary version of the game client. If they can get you to use this “character creator”, you’ll already have an account and most of the download when release day rolls around (or at least open beta).

So… it doesn’t take much to get your avatar looking good.  Here are two that didn’t take too long although I did spend some time on eyes.

First cap:  “Put the mouse down pal!  My breasts are just fine.”

Second cap:  No words necessary.

MatthewYetter karmamule see notes on Second Life above.   If resolution isn’t an issue, Star Trek Online actually has a good avatar creator.

MatthewYetter karmamule Yeah, Aion really did offer lots of choice.  I think I’d go with ESO as my favorite. Not as flexible as Aion in terms of body variations, but I like the facial choices more.  (Especially in terms of age flexibility)
