I like GW2, and Bree is NOT being overly negative. They were making some jokes about a silly monster. But content is a bit of trouble right now, and she definitely likes the game, and feels rather disillusioned. Your disagreement doesn’t make Brees opinion any less valid than yours, mine or anyone.

Enough of the GW2/Anet h8 from Bree, youre not even making reasoned arguments anymore just snarky comments.
At least get Tina on, who knows what shes talking about.

“what next? fighting a turtle?” Hilarious, oh wait Eq2 Turtle Dragon raid boss was fine.

Did you really think the story and world building was good? Personally, I think it’s some of the worst writing and story content they’ve produced to date. I’m not joking – it was bad. The story was incomplete, rushed and made no sense. Compare it to Guild Wars 1. No comparison. The difference? Time.
Now, it had seeds of potential, but they didnt deliver. Rata Novus that you mentioned was a good example. Great concept and starting point – went nowhere. We spent several story steps just to find out ….. *GASP* Mordremoth has a weakness! WOWOWOWOWOW. But not what it’s weakness was. Or how to exploit that weakness. God forbid! They had numerous examples of this, where the story steps started something, and then it’s over. Also, the ending, we just magically know to go in his mind because REASONS. And that end boss? lol. And Trahearne is the biggest, hilariously badly written DEM I’ve seen in a long while. They didn’t even try.
But we all know why this is. It’s because they panicked, and rushed the xpac, and shipped it unfinished. That’s why no Rytlock explanation. No further Rata Novus. No Malyck. Barely any Nightmare Court. No Zepherytes. It’s not mystery – they just didn’t have time. Or didn’t care. The whole expansion never got any payoff with the egg. Thier are dozens of other examples. Its so frustrating.
I want the game to be good, but this xpac does a disservice to the previously good reputation of Guild Wars. They should be ashamed at what they’ve put out. It looks pretty, but lacks a soul.

breetoplay So just FYI it had a Kickstarter in April of 2012, it’s been almost four years.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/crateentertainment/grim-dawn
I backed it because I felt the world was severely lacking in ARPGs.  And then it was the time of D3, PoE, the Van Helsings and Torchlights, Marvel Heroes, etc etc etc.  So when they announced it was finally coming out, I was pleasantly surprised.

Serrenity breetoplay I loved Hero too — there are definitely facepalmworthy parts, but the storytelling device is epic.

Yangers I think people have been spoiled by biweekly updates. It has just been just 4 months since the expansion and only one month since the Gliding and Shatterer update. We know another update for mostly casuals is coming in April and Living story is also starting right after that.

Season 2 of PvP so far is looking good. Just because someone posts on reddit that a guy named “Afkafkafk” was afk during a match does not mean that the season is being exploited by afkers. It just means someone is trolling and reddit as always is falling for it.

The story still has a long way to go, but I think expansion still had the best story telling and world building so far in Guild Wars 2. They told the entire story of Rata Novus and the golden story through contextual story telling using the environment and interactable objects spread all around.

While the expansion did increased difficulty,  grind, and time investment the actual quality of content, at least for me, is much higher than what they had before.

Esoteric Coyote DeadlyAccurate Seeing as it’s a Netflix original produced by Netflix, I can totally get why they would do it only in English, since they’re not going for a giant global release, but directly for an American audience.  But I totally understand wanting to see it in Mandarin, I saw the original two or three times in the theater subtitled.  I was surprised when I got it on DVD and it had an English dub at all.  Considering a third of Netflix’s originals have been completely weird, divisive, nostalgia tripped fan style projects, this is just another to add to that list.  Considering the breed of the folks in it, I’m hoping it’s good despite the Netflix bit.

TomTurtle Ata1  “I’ve seen some pockets of complaint about how unfriendly HoT has been to the casual playstyle so I have a little hope. :”
I’ve been one of those people — though I would say more lament and less complain :).  I found myself logging in and kind of running into a wall in terms of being able to do HoT things. Either the event failed, or there weren’t enough people around, or it was the wrong time (and the event wouldn’t be back for another hour or more).  They made it intentionally almost impossible to get to from place-to-place by yourself.  Where in core you could just meander and explore, HoT actively punishes you for that behavior. Take a wrong turn and find 2 mobs instead of 1 and you are dead.  I was just really bothered by my inability to most almost anything by myself in the expansion.
I stopped playing because the game became more frustrating than fun.  I think HoT was an amazing idea and I love the vertifcality of the maps, I love masteries but the horror-sloth is in the details and I think they dropped the ball by going all in on hardcore group content.  As I’ve said before, it’s great that it exists in the game and there are people enjoying it, I just wish they didn’t have burn the rest of the game down around them to do it.

My favorite quote of the show: “Why do you have always have to leap to malice?  Why can’t you just believe in incompetence? ”
At what point, I immediately started singing “Just give incompetence a chance” in my head

breetoplay That is one of my all-time favorite movies.  I also really like Hero. I’m such a martial arts nut that any of those Epics like that geek me out.

The problem is that ANet seems to be focusing exclusively on raids, to the exclusion of everything else.
PvP = Season one was a fiasco, and people are already abusing season 2. ANet also has a massive esports boner. They need to give up thier fantasy of being an esports world power.
WvW = Dead. I don’t need to say anything more.
Story / Lore = Bad, bordering on atrocious, what little thier actually is of it.
The story, the lore, the detailed world building…. that was a hallmark of gw. But they seem to have no clue what the heck they are doing now. Constant changes, lack of content, what content their is, is repetitive and grindy, and a move to focusing on raiding – because that’s always a game saver #sarcasm. I doubt a large percentage of the player base actually raids anyway. No wonder the xpac didn’t meet expectations, and so many are fed up. And don’t even get me started on thier constant shilling of crap in the Gemstore.
If the next xpac is like HoT, it’ll be a disaster. I have lost all faith in them tbh.

I’m waiting to see how extensive the changes ArenaNet plans to make to the content. I imagine their main focus will be moving forward to new content though.

TomTurtle  Looking at /r/Guildwars2 it would seem as if 99% of GW2 player only do speed run dungeons and raids and nothing else.
The general consensus there is that this expansion is mainly for casuals and screws hardcore players.
Every week several of the top most voted posts are about how the best rewards are no longer locked behind hardcore instanced content.

DeadlyAccurate Esoteric Coyote We’ll find out in a few days I guess right?  If it was filmed all in English, than I could see them not including it.  And it would be an odd roll reversal no?

Esoteric Coyote DeadlyAccurate I was going by the trailer, which has the actors speaking in English. (Not overdubs, from what I can tell. At least, Michelle Yeoh’s voice was her own).

DeadlyAccurate Are you sure?  Sometimes they have multiple languages, but it always defaults to English.  If you go into the options, the little chatbox icon for captions, it’ll list the audio options.  If I click the trailer for the sequel it has the following languages listed: English, French, German, Italian, and Spanish.  Traditional Chinese is only an option for the subtitles.

From the small subset that is Reddit, I’ve actually seen mostly praise for raids in GW2. That’s aside from the rewards, something ArenaNet has struggled with in every game mode since launch.
Also, if you’re curious, here’s a Reddit thread with some interesting comments for why people left GW2 and what would make them come back: https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/47464u/serious_people_who_left_the_game_what_made_you/

I usually prefer the original language for voice acting when it comes to Asian games coming to us in English. But, I think the best option, which never happens, is to provide an option to choose what language to listen to.

All I heard was Whore Sloth….

I have 52 hours in Grim Dawn and really liked it.  I think I will make another run though the main story at some point, but mods…..there will be mods!
Would anyone be that surprised if in 3 months DNB said, “Ya, that PVE side game of H1Z1 is not doing that good so we are shutting that down.” ?

Quincha The English VOs added in the Black Desert were/are mostly bad.  I would opt for the originals.

Also, it’s in English, which pisses me off probably more than it should. Like Bree, I watched the first one in the original Mandarin, and I feel that making this one in English is just insulting the audience.
