WildStar takes you on an icy tour through Arcterra

The spirit of exploration is flaming high in WildStar these days, as Carbine is preparing to unleash a new content update that includes a brand-new zone: Arcterra.

Arcterra is a newly discovered continent on Nexus that might be the location of the Vault of the Archon and was once home to a host of Osun facilities. Players will embark on a series of adventures through this crystalline landscape, through which they’ll boost their zone reward track and zone reputation meter.

The devs said that this zone will be great for high-level characters, as it will offer a lot of repeatable content including dynamic events and roaming bosses that, when killed, spawn even tougher bosses.

Check out WildStar’s deep dive on Arcterra for the region’s highlights and a hint at what’s to come in the next big update.

LordOfBread The game felt pretty good when I played it shortly after it went F2p, but then just as quickly as I picked it up, I stopped caring to play.

Something about it isn’t sticky and I think that’s one of the biggest problems.

from all F2P MMOs out there, I think this one is the one where you get the most out of it. Very generous monetization model.

Akami Probably less “newly discovered” and more “ignored until now because it was a hostile environment filled with violent native species and had no signs of the Eldan technology that we are on Nexus to find, but now that we’ve seen the datacube hidden in Omnicore-1 we better understand the relationship between the Eldan and the various lifeforms on Nexus and we are more likely to go into these sorts of places” but “newly discovered” is shorter and is effectively the same thing.
Alternatively, “newly discovered” could be from the Caretaker’s point of view.  Someone put in the effort to conceal the location of the Vault of the Archon from him, and if that included removing all mentions of Arcterra (because it is the region that the vault is located in) from his futuristic data storage system then he could very well consider Arcterra to be newly discovered.  I’m actually liking this explanation, since it was images from the Caretaker’s probes they were tweeting earlier this month, implying that he did need to search for it and does feel that it is newly discovered.  The Exile and Dominion almost certainly knew about it already but haven’t been there yet, probably for reasons mentioned above.

This sounds a lot like GW2’s Silverwastes, seems pretty cool to have roaming bosses and events, with zone wide participation to access harder content. Better than just timers, at least.
Man, if only I had managed to reach “endgame”. Too bad we probably won’t see much change in the base game now.

i was hoping this would deploy before my sub time ran out but with division looming so near i’m hoping it hits shortly after i run out of fresh launch content there so i will have something else to do for a few weeks soon after.

overall from teh sounds of things the update is going to focus on the sorts of stuff that people do the most in the game already, which is good to hear.

Greaterdivinity Akami always been a poitn of frustrating for me.
typically lore is acclimated to the design/development rather than the opposite way. i mean stuff like that does happen to a degree, but the initial design comes first.

I’m disappointed at the lack of snarky comments in regards to such a terrible and unimaginative name as Arcterra.

Akami Well, we’re also dealing with a race of aliens who created a god. It’s probably not unreasonable that they had the ability to hide a continent from everyone.

(Though I agree, it’s a little silly)

I understand the need for new content, but from a lore standpoint it doesn’t make sense to have a “newly discovered” continent.  The citizens of nexus arrived there on ship.  They have ships and satellites in orbit….  They could easily have mapped out the entire planet before even landing.  How are there “newly discovered landmasses”, let alone a huge continent.  Just seems to be some disconnect there…
