Elite Dangerous contemplates allowing players to name star systems

It’s one thing to make a great cosmic discovery that puts you in the history books. But wouldn’t you like to name that star, planet, rogue asteroid, or alien life form after yourself when you do so?

This might be happening in Elite Dangerous. In a brief forum post, Frontier said that it’s considering allowing players to purchase items from the store that would let them stamp their name on in-game systems and starports.

“Naming NPCs, renaming planets and even having a named surface marker to commemorate a special person, thing or event, are all things you’ve been asking for,” the studio said. “We are considering adding these items and more to the Frontier Store, including star system naming and creation and naming of new surface starports. We would love to know your opinion on this, and gauge interest. In order to keep these items special we would limit the availability of each, and if it works well, we would have a batch in each future expansion too.”

Elite Dangerous’ team is currently preparing the game’s next expansion cycle, The Engineers.
