The Elder Scrolls Legends TCG is finally making its closed beta move

Remember Elder Scrolls Legends, the online TCG that Bethsoft teased at last year’s E3? The one that was supposed to launch in 2015? The one whose indefinite delay we found out about in December only after Marketing VP Pete Hines dryly told PC Gamer, “I think it’s safe to say it’s not coming in the next 15 days”?

Welp, I hope you didn’t count it down and out. Bethsoft has updated the game’s website with a crapton of teasers and information. There’s an introductory blog post, a lore piece, a gameplay overview video, and an article on lane mechanics, all new today. The company has also announced the start of closed beta for “selected registrants” on PC.

Greaterdivinity It’s just an assumption at this point. One that I don’t think needs too much hard evidence to point to it. Since A) Scrolls, even with the name, was a card game and B) Bethesda got a lot of hate over the entire suit because at the time, there was no knowledge that there was a card game coming from Bethesda. But they really, really wanted to not have Scrolls carry the name Scrolls.

That entire lawsuit was more like a preemptive for keeping their name right for a product that they were planning to similarly release later.

DPandaren I don’t remember the CCG being mentioned during that lawsuit at all >.>
The only mention of card games I remember and could find in a casual google search were on the part of Mojang’s game. Was there some firm connection between the lawsuit and Bethesda working on the card game at that point that I missed?

exeeter Nordavind Greaterdivinity Technically, this CCG has been in the works since before Hearthstone. At least that ‘we’ know about it since the whole lawsuit between Bethesda and Mojang over the name Scrolls. Which makes much more sense now that we know it was because they were making a card game, in 2012.

So to say Hearthstone is the reason why this is around is kind of difficult to put down, since it seems like both the games were in development at around the same time before anyone knew anything about either projects.

They love the Hearthstone, Sir.

The one with the flashy effects?

Yes sir.

The one that boob in Sector 7-G is always playing instead of working?

Quite sir.

Fine fine…What else do the kids love?

They love the MOBA’s.

The what?  That bald vegetarian musician that plays hippie music?

No sir. MOBA’s It’s a computer game where you have lanes and …

FINE FINE Smithers! Let’s give them lanes.

Anything else sir?

No. Go fetch me my badminton racquet. The kids still like the badminton right?

Didn’t like:
* The card layout. Tries to be different, just looks silly.
* Levelling of cards. No no no no no. STAPH! A card should level/change/be buffed during a game, then return to default when that match is over.
* Game surface/board. It doesn not HAVE to look like you’re sitting at a tavern playing a card game. What’s up with this nonsense?
Like:
The lanes, it’s kind of how it was in AATCG/Legends of Norrath (only those had missions at the lanes as well).
I will try it out, but right now it does not seem very… interesting. Again too simplistic.
