One Shots: Gentlemen, to evil!

There are some subtle signs that you can look for when you’re trying to gauge if you’ve become truly evil. Conquering small nations for spite is one. Flaunting doomsday weapons as a pick-up technique is another. And the last is, of course, erecting gigantic statues of terrifying visages.

I am sad to report that reader Damien has fallen to the dark side: “Since I’m an MMO junkie, here is my level 31 Vampire Nightblade from Elder Scrolls Online enjoying some sight-seeing while on a mission from the Dark Brotherhood. I mean, who else would a Vampire Nightblade be working for?”

Lots of nostalgia screenies this week, with this first one from Jesse.

“This is from the very last day of Vanguard,” he submitted. “Was snapping some screenshots of my Orc Monk and my wife’s Ranger. I miss you Telon!”

Telon misses you too and wonders why you never call.

“To no one’s surprise, I’m sure, I’m playing the heck out of the new Star Trek Online content,” Mysecretid posted. “I discovered Star Trek through re-runs of the original series, so this new stuff speaks to me on a fundamental level. My time-lost 23rd century starship crew is currently flying a Perseus-class escort. She’s a pretty ship. If I get them finalized, and manage to snag a good shot, I’ll post a pic of the vintage crew.”

Hm. I wonder if Riders of Icarus is fun. Anyone know?

“So, Riders of Icarus is…fun, I guess?” ReesRacer said. “Standard Korean MMO fare, but I admit I’m enjoying it. I’ve finally reached the capital city of Hakanas, but not before taming every possible species in Brakarr Forest (starter area). Here’s my wizard with the first elite mount I obtained: Pritsha the Cannibal. Seemed appropriate to take a shot in the not-so-pale moonlight.”

“Here is a shot of me getting the Warlord of Dereth title in Asheron’s Call,” Zulika_Mi_Nam posted. “There was a one-time event where at a random time a big baddie (Young Olthoi Queen) would spawn in a random location within like 12 known regions of pending evil. If you were able to defeat one, and yank a gland out of it, you could get this title.

“I think I got to em first because I just dropped what I was doing and ran to search the regions when the server-wide message went out that one had been spotted while most others were trying coordinate small groups. Several times I got to a location and found a group already engaged with one. I was able to solo them, but it sure as hell was not easy. I remember being close to death for most of the fight, spamming potions and flicking back and forth from bow to a wand to heal at a furious pace.

“If I remember correctly there were only like six of these titles were available per server. Five actually on my server because I did it twice and no one bitched about how it was unfair.”

Have you ever entered virtual dwellings or inns and started taking screenshots of these living spaces? I’m always fascinated by homes in MMOs, especially the little touches that the devs include to make them look lived-in. This week’s screenshot challenge is to send in or post pictures of house, apartment, and inn interiors!

Every week, One Shots shines a spotlight on the best community screenshots from your MMO adventures. If you have a great pic to share, email it to justin@massivelyop.com with the subject “One Shots.” Make sure that the picture is over 880px wide and comes with a description or story!
