Black Desert preps for next week’s ocean patch, talks life skills

Black Desert is back online this morning after a brief patch intended to help prep for next week’s massive ocean content update — or as one forum commenter put it, “3.5gb of ocean that you can’t reach yet.” Today, expect just a few item and imperial guild trade tweaks.

And now I’m about to link to Linkedin and it’s not even going to piss you off. Lead Producer Jae Hee Kim has posted a dev blog there on how the game’s life skills were developed, from minigames for fishing to farming, even how to make hunting not feel quite like regular monster-bashing. Training horses, however, is his personal favorite.

“It was simple,” Kim writes. “We first asked ourselves ‘Wouldn’t it be fun if THIS was in the game?’ And then we asked, ‘If we implement it this way, wouldn’t it be fun?'” Yes, wouldn’t it be great if all content were developed this way?

Right then. Back to drooling over Margoria.
