Guild Wars 2’s Nightmare Fractals aim to mix accessibility with complexity

Fractals: Love ’em or hate ’em, they’re here to stay in Guild Wars 2. The latest, dubbed The Nightmare Fractal, is a ground-up do-over for Scarlet Briar’s Tower of Nightmares. Insert joke about nightmares and Scarlet Briar here.

“The general philosophy for the fractals team when we design our content is to design five-person instanced content that can be played by anyone but that has a very high skill cap at the end,” ArenaNet says in a new behind-the-scenes video out today. “Tier one fractals need to be fairly easy. They need to be something that a fresh level 80 character can very easily get into. They need to be accessible. But they also need to hold some mechanical complexity that allows players to start learning the different kinds of skillsets they’ll need to perfect to get up to the higher tiers.”

Check out the whole video below, just be aware there are some spoilers for the bosses and their mechanics!
