Black Desert’s ‘New World’ server merge will keep the game offline most of Wednesday

Black Desert’s big “New World” server merging is set to finalize tomorrow on schedule, Daum announced today, changing up the usual maintenance cadence: The servers will go down on Wednesday at 2 p.m. EST and return on Thursday at 3 in the morning. In other words, find some other MMORPG to play Wednesday.

As previously explained, the update will essentially create two large megaservers, one for the North American region and one for Europe. Regular players likely have little to worry about, but those of you who play multiple servers, belong to multiple guilds, own multiple homes, run multiple warehouses, or have more than a dozen characters should make sure to read up to properly prepare and reduce the chance of heartbreak tomorrow.

Probably the most important task is to log into the server you want to be marked as your home server, as the last server you log into will determine your housing and guild situation come server up on Thursday. Don’t worry about your names; they’re already unique to your region.

Daum has expressed confidence that the merge will improve the game on the whole. “Now that everyone will break free from server boundaries, many reputable guilds can compete for nodes or territories. Expect creative strategies from enemies you have never met before,” the studio maintains. “The economy system of Black Desert Online greatly benefits from an active interaction between combat and life contents. With the New World, a single Marketplace will cater a greater number of players, therefore housing an enormous collection of items registered by all the players in the region.”
