Global Chat: Elder Scrolls Online renaissance
As I peruse a hundred or so community blog posts every day, it’s fascinating to me to see what games the MMO blogosphere as a whole is playing and discussing. We sometimes end up flocking to certain titles based on recent announcements or because others are talking them up pretty heavily.
One game that’s been getting a lot of mentions on blogs lately is Elder Scrolls Online, with players generally enthusiastic about how it’s shaped up into a pretty decent MMO. “It’s a really solid game that’s much better than the game that launched,” writes Occasional Hero. “Visually, I would probably rank it second behind Black Desert Online for the best-looking MMORPG out there,” touts Endgame Variable.
“An item that gives your character Elf ears in The Secret World. Elf. Ears. In. TSW. Aaaahhhh myyyy gaaawwdsss. So, um, I had kind of a brain meltdown and a brief existential crisis and stuff happened, and… well, long story short, I bought yet another character slot and created a character I could RP as an Elf from the start.”
“Three-hundred and sixty-five days ago, I committed to writing one blog post per day for the entirety of 2016. The reasons were various, from trying to find my writing voice and creativity to simply seeing if I was capable of producing that level of consistent content for a full year, and while there were some days in which I lagged a little when trying to think of things to write about, I’ve succeeded in writing one for every day of the year.”
“For years, LOTRO has been my comfort-zone MMO. It’s mostly about the landscapes and pace of the game. It’s incredibly relaxing to play, only the usual cash shop stuff disturbing the immersion into this world. Well, that and the character models — although in my opinion they aren’t too bad, it’s the hair styles that get me. And the armor. All these years I’ve returned to LOTRO in the same way as many, many people return to WoW for each expansion.”
“Art comes in many forms but for this tip I am referring to paintings, photography, and literature. For practical purposes I use Google Images and Bing Images to find relative topics for designs. If I am building a house, sometimes I will search for specific words such as ‘woodland cottage’ or ‘contemporary homes’ and then I like to add more words to those phrases, like ‘tiny woodland cottage’ or ‘pink contemporary home interiors.’ Try to be as specific as possible when you search, you will find some great images to inspire you.”
“Once you’ve started Knights of the Fallen Empire, you lose all your class companions. The developers keep telling us every dev livestream that they want to bring the companions back as much as we do, and I believe them. With the Eternal Throne expansion, the main story has come to a conclusion and finding out what happened to our companions is the logical next step: There is no way they don’t know where you are at that point. I hope it happens this year!”
“Over time, another thought began to creep in: If I’m going to change Zuri’s looks, maybe I can consider changing her race. I mean, I may as well go all out if I’m going to use real money to change her cosmetically. Afterall, there are a TON of catgirls in the game. Don’t get me wrong, I love my kitty. But at the same time, it would be nice to play a race that’s a bit more rare.”
