PAX South: Co-op RPG Dauntless demos its gameplay

This past weekend at PAX South, the co-op RPG Dauntless made its public debut, offering attendees a chance to try out a demo of the monster-slaying title. As you may recall from December's reveal of the game, Dauntless is a free-to-play multiplayer game being developed by former Blizzard and BioWare employees.

PC Gamer caught some time with the demo and reported that it seemed (initially) impressive: "I was initially skeptical of its free-to-play model, but developer Phoenix Labs assured me it wants to stay far away from paying for power -- focusing more on the standard cosmetics and boosts we see in other free-to-play games -- and after playing it, I really liked the idea of being able to drop in to hunt giant monsters with friends without them having to make a purchase to do so."

I like the sound of Monster Hunter-style game and even better is that it'll be on PC. I like the art style and that type of combat. Obviously it's very early on, so not much to say beyond that. It'll be important to make this accessible as I know the MH series has had that issue when trying to appeal to a wider audience.

I really ought to get back into MH as I barely touched it.

I've been kinda jaded about new releases, but this one got me to pay attention a bit more. The general "weight" of combat seems dead on, but I really like the art direction they went with.

Ok take a real in game screen and not a "Bullshot" devs and we'll see.

Sounds like they created dungeons and plan to add a little MMO afterwards, not sure about it, the gameplay looks nice, the Armadillo looking boss looks pretty cool and i could see a few gashes on it after some fighting, i just think this would go better with a full populated world where you can do other stuff when you don't feel like taking on a boss, but i guess time will tell if this formula works.

Looks interesting, kind of like taking just the group gameplay part of MMOs and putting it out in the open and leaving out the extraneous questing part, if I got this correctly. It's about time something like that comes out but I hope it has longevity to it.

Also, yay new comment system.

Longevity is what they want. They want to make it a platform like League where they keep adding new things to it instead of making a sequel.

New comment system looks snazzy!

I would like to know what else is involved in the game, as far as character progression etc. Also, tried connecting with Google and it says you guys need to configure that still :)

I like the concept of a coop monster hunter. May have to look this one up.
