Elder Scrolls Online’s Homestead expansion is live on PC

You may have forgotten all about it in the wacky Morrowind hype whirlwind that was last week, but ZeniMax has officially rolled out the Homestead patch for Elder Scrolls Online PC players this morning, at least if you’re in North America — the EU patch has been delayed a few more hours. Xbox One and PlayStation 4, you’ll be waiting until February 21st.

The patch notes are positively monstrous, so if you’re aiming for a new house, better dig in sooner rather than later. You can also check out our previews below, and stay tuned for another housing-related treat from us later today!

Was wondering why I had a monster patch to download… e.e
Will probably try to dig into it by the end of this weekend. Certainly sounds promising.

I know literally nothing about this update (for any kind souls who don’t mind answering what are likely stupid questions) – can you get a free/cheap house using in-game currency? I have crowns, but don’t want to spend them.

Also, are the houses purely cosmetic (which is fine), or is there some in-game utility to them?

Will poke around the update tonight, but knowing that information will go a long way in determining how I approach it given the other games I’ve got on my plate for this week.

Check Zulika’s comment below if you haven’t yet. I forget how hard/easy it is to get gold, but the most expensive stuff is a few million gold while the cheaper stuff is under 100k.

Must log out……but can’t

I think this is a pretty awesome preadsheet of everything related to housing pricing – by Faunter on reddit.

I put my horsie on a table in my room. That will do for now… I’ll be back tomorrow If I can balance all my pets on top of the horse.

In all seriousness the achievement vendor reminds me a little of the museum in The Secret World.

Also I have run Minion many, many times.

Those were indeed some serious patch notes! Although I did cheese it (hi Bree! :P) and skip over the stuff that didn’t pertain to my current class. Can’t wait to get my little NY apartment broom closet! LOL

Yikes. Nightblade nerfs!

Strife: Increased the cost of this ability and its morphs by approximately 38%.
Death Stroke: Increased the cost of this ability and its morphs to 70 Ultimate from 50 Ultimate.

Booooo…there goes my NB tank.

The patch took about an hour and I got a candlestick furniture scroll for crafting thingy. It sure takes a lot of mats to build the simplest thing. Mat sink + fill up your inv bags to lead to the craft bag sub for sure.

MMO housing is so much fun, Blizzard needs to get a fing clue already!!!!!!!!!!!!

Welp, just subbed to the game for a bit, so may as well try to give this a spin this week!

It will be a good break from the string if awful groups I’ve been getting for dungeons. Watching people repeatedly fail to grasp the most basic of mechanics reminds of of why I hate other people… I love MMO’s, just not the bloody idiots that play them -_-

Sometimes when the trolls come out, i just use the ignore function. @immabadazz420 is probably not going to have anything i want to hear.

Sometimes though, when the stupid gets really going in zone, I just turn it off completely. Then ESO becomes kinda like Skyrim, beautiful, solo and without sexlab mods.

Reader
Greaterdivinity

Naw, not so much trolls, just painfully stupid to the extreme. People who don’t read chat, and die to the same easily avoidable shit (or fail the same easy to grasp mechanic) wipe after wipe after wipe. Not to mention utterly failing to the extreme at DPS usually (I roll as a healer).

It’s symptomatic of the broader issue of MMO’s literally doing nothing to teach players how to play, and ESO is definitely a big culprit of this. Especially with its weapon/skill system, so there are often folks who are barely doing any damage because their build is so jacked that it’s nigh unusable in a group setting.

I want to get my daily dungeon done, but at this point I’ll end up with fewer headaches just tinkering around clearing out zones by my lonesome while Netflix is on. *sigh*

Add me if you want and I’ll help you get thru dungeons, I can solo tank and solo heal a normal dungeon at the same time. Ign: Valkyriez_Gaming

That’s probably me. Since I usually solo I tend to mix and match survivability and damage and end up with someone whose not good at either but usually good enough to get by the pve quest content.

I just no any given class i pick in eso, I am the low dps.

Lightning sorc…I’m popping one guy with heavy destro staff while the others stand around being held.Another sorc rolls up and just stands in the middle of six or seven and burns them all down in seconds. *sigh*

And don’t get me started on how gimpy my two hander dk is. I feel like Im chopping down trees with a herring, a very BIG herring but still.

Its not entirely your fault. The big problem is the dungeon scaling. Unlike other games where players of the same level range group together, ESO tried to scale all players to max level so everyone can play together. Nice idea in theory but they didn’t succeed.

When you use group finder you get players with max level CP560 with legendary gear/weapons and a fully morphed skill set in the same group with level 10 players in green gear with one or two attacks skills and low health. Then throw into the mix that the dungeons have wildly different difficulty levels and you get a big mess. Players with 560 Champion points are vastly stronger than players with 0 champion points and the scaling doesn’t compensate enough. Why youll see the sorcerer walk in, wave his staff and everything dies around him, while you can barely kill one thing.

Generally speaking, however, this is only a big issue with the DLC dungeons. The DLC dungeons have no level requirement which means level 10’s are put into what are, mechanically, the hardest dungeons in the game. A level 15 who gets put into Spindleclutch has a pretty low chance to really go wrong.

Reader
Doubleplusgood

Yes, if you get the basic version “1” of a dungeon any level can do it, they are super easy.
The problem is when you get the version “II” of a dungeon, those have a higher difficulty, and then there is the DLC dungeons which are the worst difficulty. Like ruins of mazzatun or cradle of shadows…./shudder the horror

On my second repair because the patch went bad, and that weighs in at 45gb a pop. Yet to see it actually load past the initial screen, and never to character select. Just another day in patch-day paradise, I guess.

Reader

Are you getting the missing file error too ?

After patching I can’t even get the game to start at all .

Nick Martin

Originally I was seeing a locked file error, which was caused by the launcher apparently hanging when the patch started. I got past that… now no error so far as I can tell, the game just won’t load.

Reader
Darthbawl

Yipes, that stinks! Sounds like MOP needs to do an editorial on the sad state of game patching, if it has not already been done.

EDIT: Er, I think it was done not too long ago. My coffee is not jumpstarting my brain this morning. *cry*

hm, I planned to reinstall ESO when housing hits the live servers (also to experiment with the level scaling of one tamriel) but over the past weekend I bought Morrowind on gog and though I do not intend to sink 100h+ into that right now, it will probably scratch my TES itch for a while.

The larger homes cost over $100 real money with the largest costing $135 CAN…..I cant believe people are spending that amount of money.

Reader
Darthbawl

Of course it’s believable, people are spending $1000+ on ships for a game that isn’t even remotely done yet… :P

Ah thanks. I thought all the types of house would cost the same, but the pic above shows the most expensive Notable one atm. I just happened to pop into it first. The others are 13.8 and 12.5
I am way too poor in this game to think about the gold purchases for unfurnished versions.

Just patched it and the game won’t start because it says now I have a missing file and have to reload the whole game .

feck it .

Reader

God, now I’m scared and I’ve only downloaded 11% of the patch!

Reader

That’s a known problem since testing but there is a workaround that Dev Tracker will lead you to, although it doesn’t sound like it will work for everyone. My suspicion is that it relates to a MS file update that was required for a recent update (probably the One Tamriel one but I can’t recall off-hand) and not everyone consented to it (possibly because they weren’t at the computer and missed the prompt), with the result that it is now shown to be missing.

Sorry for that, I don’t know if it’d be worth waiting to see if they resolve the issue and you dont have to reload whole game. :(

I bit the bullet and went for the download . I’ll play Fallout 4 while I am waiting .

Was working fine yesterday so I think they must have fecked up somewhere .

Looks like ~1.6 GB patch.

EDIT: Patch notes say patch is ~3.36 GB big. My patcher said ~1.6 GB, unless it’s multiple patches totaling what they said.

..still patching..

First thing on my To Do list: acquire set crafting stations.

I’m not much of a decorator, preferring instead to use housing for utility. I mean, yes, I do make it look pretty, but I am not getting one for a Doll House sim.
