Massively OP Podcast Episode 103: Back to Morrowind

We apologize in advance. The news of the return of Bree’s most favorite Elder Scrolls setting has jacked up her excitement levels to 11. Be warned that this episode may contain any and all of the following: gleeful giggling, spontaneous singing, half-hour recollections of the old days, readings of player-written poetry, and confetti thrown through your computer speakers.

It’s the Massively OP Podcast, an action-packed hour of news, tales, opinions, and gamer emails! And remember, if you’d like to send in your own letter to the show, use the “Tips” button in the top-right corner of the site to do so.

I haven’t had a chance of listen to most of the podcasts till this week. So what your telling me is Bree was missing for a chunk of them? Well I didn’t miss anything important then… >:] Nah I tease, I’ll probably go back and try to catch up on a few, but no promises.

Oh, did you guys know that Elder Scrolls Online’s “new” class is actually the cancelled class from early development? I don’t know if you’ve mentioned that anywhere here yet, maybe you have in an old article, but I just thought it was something to note in case.

“Eve isn’t even as big as Eve” – That could sound like it makes no sense, but if you know Eve and read Eve news, you totally understand how very true that is.

Come for the Morrowind soundclip, stay for the tales of Justin’s city building acumen. (And I have the same problem.)

And if you want to maximize feelings of ominous despair compare the podcast comments with today’s news that Wildstar revenue is now listed as “other” in the earnings report.

I need advice: I played the heck of out Skyrim and its expansions and I loved every second of it. I played a ton of Oblivion and never finished the main quest, but I did hundreds of hours of side quests and general exploring. I played some of ESO and kind of liked it. I am tempted to try Morrowind, but the gameplay looks so dated. Clunky combat and menus seem likely to make it unfun. Is it worth trying?

There are also people rebuilding Morrowind with the Skyrim engine. I think there are two separate projects, one of them is called Skywind. I imagine these will be long in development though.

Morrowind’s main storyline (and Tribunal’s, for that matter) is completely worth doing — better than many plotlines in OB/SK. So I recommend gritting your teeth, modding what you can so it’s not so ugly, and jumping in! :D

I feel cheesy relinking it, but I have a modding guide up on my old blog that’s probably helpful to folks considering jumping into Morrowind and needing pointers on mods:

Seen any elves?

Just note that some of the mod links are dead – but everything can still be found here:

That’s an interesting sentence in your description of Morrowind Graphics Extender:

The thing I miss the most when playing without it is gorgeous water, and I can survive that.

I remember really well how we all cheered in full joy when Morrowind came out and the water looked SO cool. And now we write how lame the vanilla water looks like. :D

Hah, exactly! It was a huge step up from what came before. And now? We expect better than life! :D
