WoW Tokens explode in price thanks to Blizzard’s announcement

Yesterday’s announcement that WoW Tokens can now be used to exchange for Blizzard store currency has caused a major upheaval in the market price for these World of Warcraft items.

Literally overnight, the prices practically doubled in several regions. WoW Tokens in North America have spiked from 59,000 gold to 112,000 gold (and is still climbing), while Tokens in Europe are around 200,000 gold at the time of this writing. China rose to 289,000 gold for a brief period before coming back down a little.

“It isn’t really worth converting tokens to 30 days of game time at the moment. It’s best to convert them to Battle.net Balance and purchase 3+ months via web shop,” World of Warcraft site Icy Veins recommended.

I bought one in the middle of the content drought of WoD for $35k and have been waiting for a day like this. Now I wish I would of bought more!

RIP all of the players who depended on the WoW Token to maintain their sub.

I don’t see myself really ever getting back into WoW and maintaining a sub unless WoW Tokens are manageable to keep up with on a monthly basis without nolife grinding/playing the AH.

Alternatively this is a great sink for whales.

Bought 3 tokens with all my gold when it was still at 70,000g. I don’t even really want the Blizz Bucks out of it. It will cool off some, but I bet we see it spike every time Overwatch has a new event.

It was really nice getting tokens for 30-50k but it is nicer being able to use them for cash. 9 chars transferred and 3 rerolled last night for something that would have cost me about $300CND otherwise. Even farming 200k is not that bad for a free month and it will be about 200k+ when the price settles. Gold is much easier to come by these days. Do a few dailies, farm some mats, craft some stuff, make a few trade and you can easily make that much. If you are short or being lazy maybe u need to sub for a month or two in a year. If you are a heavy player you theoretically will never need to buy a sub or expansion again. A literal lifetime of free play. Hell you can buy anything blizz ever releases from SC2 to diablo 4.

“Hell you can buy anything blizz ever releases from SC2 to diablo 4,” unless Blizzard starts holding back certain expansions or new releases from their online store, much like Zenimax is doing with ESO: Morrowind. ;)

Which ofc they will do. I mean…it’s blizzard. They will never ever skip on money.

Short of them increasing the amount of money that you can get on a character, there is a good chance that i may very well be done playing WoW unless finances dictate I can actually pay for two MMOs. For now, I’m already paying for two people (FFXIV) so paying nearly 20 bucks a month for a game I may very well only play less than 10 hours a week doesn’t make financial sense to me.

While I get the WoW Tokens were an added bonus for your money, and I get the fact that Blizzard is trying to use them for different currency, at this time, it does squeeze out the folk that were getting enough money for the playtime and trying to play the game F2P. This is making it that we have to work far harder for it, and if prices are an indication, they’re not done yet rising. Last I had checked it was at 100k and it’s now sitting at 112k, and that’s still less than 24 hours after they announced the change to their token platform.

Ah well. I got another 2-3 months worth of playtime so I’ll just keep saving up money and if i can get enough for another month, then so be it. But if not, no loss. They weren’t getting money off of me anyway so it’s no loss on their end, but it’s no loss on my end either. It was enjoyable, and hopefully I can finish Nighthold before the sub expires or we find some money to budget for it.

But paying for a third sub at this time isn’t feasible and i’m a bit sad this is no longer possible for the amount of time I dedicate to the game.

I don’t have much of a use for in-game G. The only thing I ever spend it on is repairs and potions/flasks for raids.
Sure I’d like the spider mount but then again I don’t really care. In the end I’m fine with simply having the recurring 6 month sub .

I don’t think it will come down too much. You can use them for stuff like lootboxes from Overwatch, which is pretty much a bottomless pit.

WoW tokens are now actually worth buying to sell now. Previously they were a total scam. You could find a very reputable honest gold seller(yes they do exist) very easily and get 3x the amount of gold for the same price.

I’m pretty sure there were a few non-Catholic popes, too.

That priced me out of the market for them, but I’m sure costs will go down again. I still think it was a good change. I’d much rather blow all my gold to move my characters than open my wallet at this point.
