Mekria Online cancels its $110K Kickstarter

Just a week and a half ago, we told you all about Mekria Online, a brand-new in-development MMORPG focused on both PvE and PvP. The team behind it, Infinity Online, had posted a Kickstarter seeking $110,000. But today, with under $2000 raised, the team has canceled the campaign, telling players they didn't believe it'd made a compelling case for its Kickstarter and means to postpone it until it can. Here's the studio's statement:

"We’ve received a lot of feedback recently from industry experts and from gamers anticipating the release of Mekria Online. What we’ve received has been some good, some bad, but all helpful. We at Infinity Online Studios want to inspire confidence in our idea for Mekria. Through the feedback we’ve received, we have come to the conclusion that we haven’t been able to present a comprehensive presentation that would earn your confidence. Because of this, we have decided to postpone our Kickstarter. This doesn’t mean we are discontinuing development, but rather that we are taking some time to regroup and regather so as to present a clear and concise vision. We want to assure those who are already fans of our ideas that there will be no changes to our core concepts, combat, character creation, etc. We’re simply going to take some time to properly flesh out our ideas in a way that’s a lot more 'show' and a little less 'tell.'"

So $2,000 in kickstarter money is lost. I am sure they are thankful for the vacation money.

Kickstarter working as intended.

Was confused on their stack on the hyper-sexuality that they claim to be against. But their kickstarter was plastered with pictures of half naked females.... confusing messages there lol

Besides the lack of actual info...

'focused on both PvE and PvP' - no, pick one. You can't 'focus' on both, especially with your limited resources. WoW has been trying and desperately failing to do it for almost 15 years, and even with near unlimited budget and time they can't stop PvP from ruining PvE and vice versa because those are different games.

How exactly is WoW desperately failing?

Not the whole game, just specifically at balancing things for both PvP and PvE.

They've been nerfing one for the other with dueling random tweaks since 2004 because talents that are good for PvE are terrible for PvP and sometimes vice versa. Because Blizz thinks you can tune anything by randomly tweaking stats, given long enough, like they do with Starcraft. But you can't possibly balance for both when PvE is designed for multiple weak mobs.

Finally, after 10 years, they realized that and they've started moving to talents that only work in controlled PvP. Battlegrounds are about carving out a PvP game they can balance within a PvE game, which is smart. But the open world PvP will be broken forever.

damn right they didn't make a compelling case.

Their FAQ was so ambiguous.

More "show", less "tell", well summarized.
I didn't think they would only gather so little money, but that's unfortunately what you get for being there after all the failures and half successes. People learn, and looking at that cancellation, some developers, too.
Good luck to them!
