WRUP: Parts may fall off edition

Congratulations on your new vehicle! You’ve made an excellent choice, because now we can feed our families. This money will be a blessing to us. Just to let you know, though, this is a minor thing, but parts may fall off of your vehicle. This is perfectly normal, and it’s generally nothing to worry about. Some of the molding might fall off the first time you pass 10 MPH, totally all right, nothing to be concerned about. A mirror or two might fall, but that’s normal.

Other parts that can fall off, which are completely expected and should prove no hazard, are the front cowling, exhaust pipes, wheel covers, passenger shielding, and the entire engine. Also, some of these parts may either catch fire or cause other things to catch fire. Last but not least, the soulstone sealing in the caged demon within the vehicle may fall off. That… is actually bad. You should worry about that a lot. Just sign here in What Are You Playing and you’re all set, but you also have to tell us if you’re a cop.

Andrew Ross (@dengarsw): Probably another weekend of Pokémon Go and Fire Emblem Heroes between weekend work, a little socializing, and grappling with whether or not I should plan on getting a launch day Nintendo Switch next weekend!

Brianna Royce (@nbrianna, blog): I’ve actually been playing a nice bit of The Elder Scrolls Online this week, and last night I was very tempted by Guild Wars 2. Log in to look through the cosmetic cash shop, realize you have more 80s than you remember leveling, and they all look awesome. But I dunno. One or both of those!

Eliot Lefebvre (@Eliot_Lefebvre, blog): The Stormblood announcements from last week have me nicely hyped for more stuff in Final Fantasy XIV, but I’ll also be playing around more in WildStar. Should be a nice, relaxing weekend.

MJ Guthrie (@MJ_Guthrie, blog): Strangely enough, I am deviating from my normal survival weekend a bit. Although I will still be doing a bit of Ark: Survival Evolved and Conan Exiles, I will be jumping in to Trove for a spell to level up. I’ve a goal to go to the Shadow Tower and I need a higher power rank to be able to go. I also plan to play some more Paladins with my son.

Your turn!

Hopped back into EQ2 and played for a bit. But then I got really into Champions Online because of the Snake Gulch event going on right now and I am really enjoying that game again. I’ve been needing to scratch that Superhero itch, so CO has been good, and I will probably play some DCUO on my XBOX One tonight and tomorrow. I might also download Marvel Heroes and try and actually get a character to 60 (I goof around too much in that game). I wanna get Black Bolt and Beast. Has anyone played them? Are they any good? My main focus is currently on Punisher, Jean Grey, and Magneto.

Other than EQ2 and Superhero games I may try to get back into the Division. I’ve had a shooter itch alongside that superhero itch. But IDK :P

I found Beast more fun than I expected. Some nice “acrobatic” animations, and his voice-acting is pretty entertaining. I haven’t picked up Black Bolt (yet?), so I can’t offer any opinions there.

One hero I found fun to play that I’ve mentioned here before is The Thing — his voice actor is spot-on, and some of his dialogue makes me laugh out loud.

You might want to give the character the level 1-10 free try-out, and see what you think for yourself.

Mobile titles.

Mobius Final Fantasy – Progressing in Chapter 4 and grinding Chapter 3 hard mode.

Final Fantasy Brave Exvius – Wrapping up the 2nd region out of, like, several.

Postknight – Finishing focusing on the 2nd region out of 5.

Fire Emblem Heroes – Finishing focusing on Hard mode maps and challenges. Got a 5-star of a featured banner.

Soon: If I can, finish my Mass Effect 3 playthrough to prep for MEA release. Try Torment: Tides of Numinera. Return to my Dragon Age: Origins playthrough.

MMORPGs are not sticking.

This coughing virus is letting up slowly — enough that I was able to get in a bunch of gaming this week, beyond my usual poking about in Star Trek Online.

As such, this will be a long post. My apologies in advance.

–> spent a couple of days early in the week playing Elder Scrolls Online intensely — to the point where I needed a break, simply because of “overkill”. Too much of a good thing is still too much. :-)

— so I did a bunch of internet research to finally figure out how the AEGIS game mechanic works for the Tokyo section of The Secret World.

It’s not terribly complicated — enemies now have color-coded “shielding”, and you must match your AEGIS device’s color to their shields in order to chip away said shields — it’s just that I found FunCom’s in-game explanation of how to set it up, and how it all works to be very confusing and insufficient. Luckily, the internet was able to explain everything. :-)

Now, that I’ve found my way into the Tokyo content, I’m loving it. The characters and the writing in this game are so very good, as always.

It occurred to me that, my Secret World character is probably the most like me of any MMORPG character I play.

I’d like to say that my main in Star Trek Online is most like me (and he comes close), but the real-world setting of TSW seems to push the similarities between my character and myself even closer.

–> When I needed something less cerebral than TSW, I switched over to Destiny on my PS4, and, man, am I ever having fun in that game!

When I’m in the mood for heroic action, it has that in spades, but there’s enough story and character to give weight and consequence to what I’m doing, so it doesn’t feel like “just another shooter”.

I have the “Collection” edition of Destiny (the one which includes all the DLC releases up to The Iron Lords) and I recommend this version of the game to anyone who might be interested.

Even revised as it is, the initial storyline in Destiny has the least depth, so having the additional content available to flesh things out, and to answer hanging plot questions, really helps.

Last night, I finally beat Oryx solo with my Nightstalker hero! High fives for everyone! (What a pain in the ass that boss battle was!)

–> Lastly, the real-life discovery of a preponderance of potentially water-bearing habitable-zone planets in the Trappist-1 star system got me even more excited about space exploration than I usually am … so I started playing the non-MMORPG game Planetbase again.

Planetbase is a small, relatively inexpensive PC game on Steam which sees you constructing, expanding and overseeing human colonies on one of a variety of different worlds.

It’s basically an “ant farm” builder game, with a bit of a challenge aspect. Unlike games like Sim City, or Cities: Skylines, you can’t alter the terrain — you essentially have to build and expand your base using the random terrain you’re given at the start of the game.

You have colonists, and you recruit more, but you do not control them directly. Thankfully, the five people (!!) who made Planetbase have been good about patching and improving the game since launch, so not only are your colonists pretty smart, but you can also highlight certain sections of your base to tell them “working here is your priority”.

Planetbase is my recommendation this week, for those who might be interested.

It’s not a high-intensity game, by any means. It’s a “cup of tea and some cookies while I help humanity settle deep space” kind of game. :-)

It looks good, though, (in my opinion) and when you’re in the mood for something different, it might be worth checking out. There are videos on YouTube, and reviews, and screenshots out there to be had.

That’s all from me, folks! Take care of yourselves, please!

Totally sick, feeling like i’ll end up coughing my throat on the screen. Three more days for two months single now, altho my friendship with my ex is pretty good.

And, i’m in a bit of juvenile love with a friend of mine, but she’s just too full of issues, and i can’t bear to toss all the progress of my treatment for that. It’s really hard, but i’m swallowing my feelings ( since she also doesn’t share them, we just hooked up sometimes ), so i can help her through her problems.

I need more friends to play and take my mind off things.

The drawings are just me sketching crap and trying a new style. I’m not bothering too much with digital edition on the pictures, since my scanner destroys them outrightly.

This week: My pigtails will never fall off!

Also: I need to engage with my internet opponents more, instead of insulting them for their credulities. That seems far more effective. As I am sure if they go overboard, their comments will meet the business end of Bree’s mop. So there’s really no point to the flounce. Unless I want to see my comments face that same business end of said mop. :(

This weekend is feeling like it could be very MMO-lite. About the only goal I’m driven to accomplish is the rest of my 15 games as Warcraft heroes in Heroes of the Storm to get the WoW mount and 10 day stim pack. I’m honestly more excited about the pack than the mount. And that my beloved Chromie is up on the free rotation. I love melting (sanding?) faces as such a cute little character!

Maybe I’ll play FFXIV with some side goals in mind, like farming mounts and minions. I have been toying with the idea of treasure maps for the Nutkin, in particular.

Thanks to today’s daily grind, there could be some weird MMOs in my future, like dipping my toe into Wakfu, Puzzle Pirates, or Toontown Rewritten.

I’ve really been playing VA11 Hall-A, and I’m amazed at how long it is, and how attached I’ve become to all the characters. The writing and style are both so good; I don’t think at this point I could complain about anything.

It’s my aim to get at least one character to level 50 in both Rift and SWTOR sometime soon. I have a level 43 and a level 47 respectively. I’ve been playing both games on and off for years but alts have plotted to stop me reaching the level cap. Of course the level cap has changed in both games several times over the years but the original level cap will be all right to start with. :)

While I’m not expecting to have a lot of time to game this week, I’m taking a break from leveling my main in LotRO to spend some time in a single-player RPG; this time it’s Planescape: Torment. There are very few games I’ve played that rise to this level of talent in terms of writing. The only MMO I can think of that comes close is The Secret World. After that, I plan to fire up an RPG I’m almost ashamed to say I haven’t played yet – Morrowind. Does anyone have any suggestions on mods for upgrading the dated graphics and/or UI?
Have a great weekend all!

Well that is ironic I wrote you a reply about mods for Morrowind but it seems to need moderation before it show up (possibly because of the links I put in if I was to hazard a guess)

Take your time with Morrowind, well you won’t have any choice as you move so slow but I guess you understand what I really mean hehe.

As for mods, well there is this Bree Royce person not sure who she is but she seems to know what she is talking about when it comes to mods for Morrowind. She put together a good article a while back that will get you off to a decent start modding wise, found here: http://skycandy.org/2013/10/seen-any-elves/

You may have to look around a little for some of the mods so try places like http://mw.modhistory.com/ & http://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/? and you should be pretty much covered.

Also maybe rewatch / read the last working as intended to cover your housing needs: http://massivelyop.com/2017/02/06/working-as-intended-elder-scrolls-housing-through-the-ages/

Good luck and hope you have as much fun in there as many of us have had, remember to come up for air and a shower occasionally :-)

Thanks for this I have been wondering about looking at Morowind but the seemingly vast need to mod it firs,t even starting from a new steam install, has given me pause. I did not even know if it was playable on a modern Win 10 desktop. I am a bit concerned that all her tips and instructions are now almost 3 1/2 years old but the fact that Bree has codified tings to that point makes it look doable.

Pretty sure that its not a workshop enabled game, sorry.

I would always strong advise you to to make a save game prior to adding a mod so that you can go back to that if you don’t like the mod.

Generally speaking adding mods is pretty painless but when it comes to removing them then it can be a bit hit or miss depending on the mod or which way the wind is blowing and sadly can sometimes lead to save game corruption. So having a save game safety net is a really good idea.

Don’t let that put you off though and I am sure that once you get into it you will be fine. You will know you are really into the mod scene when you spend more time fiddling with your mods / load orders and so on than you do playing the game, hehe :-)

My gaming weekend is rather packed. Overwatch is a usual staple. I’ve already had some very kickass games today. I’ll also be playing the Ghost Recon: Wildlands beta. I tried out the closed beta and enjoyed it, so I’ll most likely end up buying it on release. When I want something relaxing, I play Invisible, Inc. It’s a nice, turn-based stealth game.

I’m also playing a space sandbox game called Avorion that just released on early access last month. It already has quite a bit of content, and I find it has a better ship-building UI than StarMade.

And finally, I’m going through the tutorial for Evochron Legacy. This one is complicated, and I hope I like it once I finally finish the tutorials.

ESO, Blade & Soul, Winning Putt Online.

I downloaded Ghost Recon Wildlands for the open beta, but have yet to actually play it. To be clear, it has absolutely nothing to do with Uplay (the Ubisoft portal), which has received such a horrifying reputation, it’s almost a meme itself. For at least the last couple of years, it has caused zero problems for me, and I’ve enjoyed quite a few games without issue.

It feels nice to just be concentrating on two games I’m really enjoying. Still HotS and ESO. In HotS I think I keep getting better and I’m just having fun doing not much of anything in ESO. I subbed so it’s a completely different game with the crafting bag.

I’m not sure what I’m going to do this weekend. I’m in “gaming limbo” as I selfishly look toward upcoming games I want (Horizon, Nier, Zelda, and a handful of others) instead of focusing on what I already have. I might play a few rounds of For Honor, do a mission or two on Nioh, and dabble in ESO/BDO.

Reader
Sray

Horizon looks really good, but my big fear is that it’s “just another open world game” and it ends up being a bunch of wasted space that just delays your getting to the actual fun stuff. I’m holding off until real players get their hands on it, and we’ve got a real picture of what it’s like; but my fingers are crossed for something good, if for no reason other than I’ve really been wanting to play another game that makes archery fun like the Tomb Raider games did.

I’ve hit a groove in Guild Wars 2 with my chronomancer, the class hits just the right amount of action and support to make me a happy adventurer. It also doesn’t hurt that its a light armor class. Now to buckle down and find a proper legendary for my new PvE main.

The new arena in Star Trek Online is beckoning me as well, my Starfleet captains gotta go show off to their Klingon hosts. Also more Tony Todd, hell yeah.

Reader

Well, after grabbing it cheap last weekend and giving it a good ten or so hours, I most definitely won’t be playing any more of FFXIV. We’ll just say not my cup of tea, and leave it at that.

Still chewing through a whole backlog of PS4 exclusives. I’ve got Ratchet & Clank, and Heavy Rain on the go right now (Heavy Rain has decent enough story but a very awkward control scheme, it tends to knock you out of the immersion) and lots of other recent/remastered classics on tap, but what I’m missing is a really good -and, hopefully, mostly brain dead- third person shooter for the PS4. I’ve got a bunch of the recent big name stuff on PC (GTA V, Just Cause 3, Rise of the Tomb Raider) so I just don’t know of anything out there that scratches the itch for “no time for thinking, only time for blowing shit up” action. I would love suggestions; but no multi-player only stuff: I refuse to get Playstation Plus because I don’t believe in paying for Internet on top of my Internet.

The hack’n’slash genre both fascinates and repels me simultaneously. I love the idea of a simple button mashing game where you play as hero that effortlessly cuts a path of carnage through unending waves of enemies; but the visual aesthetic almost always tends to be an Asian inspired Rob Liefeld-esque “designed by 15 year old boys, for fifteen year old boys” thing that just burns my eyes to even look at. And the stories are an even worse “written by lobotomized fifteen year old boys, for people who think Michael Bay movies are too intellectual” thing.
However, that sort of mechanical game play could make an absolutely fantastic Superman or Thor video game, provided you could get the right aesthetic of cartoony but not too over the top.

Have you tried the Marvel Heroes action RPG?

At core, the gameplay is “beat up bad things, get rewarded”, but it’s done with enough love for the genre, and for Marvel comics lore, that it’s not at that appallingly shallow “Mikul Baye is two smurte!!!” level. :-D

My opinions, anyway. Just a suggestion.

It is cool, but basically just the product of a committee saying “we should make a clone of Dark Souls that uses Japanese mythology instead of western … ”

And then hired a lead designer who was a huge fan of Onimusha & the character designer was clearly playing The Witcher in his off time.

I am back to being able to sit at my desk at least for short periods of time so I have a few more choices as to what I do with my gaming.

I seem to have settled on Elder Scrolls Online after getting excited about the up coming expansion and the new warden class, so trying to find my feet in that game again. I have also been casually poking Hex: Shards of Fate which I in turn find challenging and intensely frustrating. Mainly due to the rng elements but that is the nature of that game so I have to learn to roll with it.

I haven’t abandoned Lord of the Rings Online and still working on my hunter who is now lvl 102 and in Central Gondor. I have however been a little distracted by my alts so didn’t make as much progress as I had hoped. Still I was having fun on a Loremaster and the Beorning both of which happen to involve using a bear a lot, can’t imagine why that happened.

Hope everyone has a safe and happy gaming weekend o/

This week in LotRO:

Visited a bunch of famous locations including the Barrow Downs and Weathertop. Got a big surprise when accepting what I thought was an on-level quest from Gandalf in Bree and suddenly found myself whisked away to Rivendell. I couldn’t do anything there but I still spent more than an hour riding around enjoying the beautiful sights and sounds.

This week I also tried a skirmish instance for the first time and enjoyed it a lot. For my NPC soldier I chose a tanky dwarf who distracts the enemy while I creep up and backstab them all. I think the Burglar is becoming my favorite class in any game ever. The skill set is just so fun and in-character. I feel like a cat playing with his food every time I sneak up behind a monster, pick his pocket, backstab/bleed him, trigger an evasion buff and dance around while he misses me, stun his ass, move around behind him and backstab/bleed him again. Wheeee!

The article about mmo breathers made me want to check out FFXIV again, but it turns out you can’t change your residency country so I can’t change my country from US to Canada, and it’ll probably not accept my credit card without a matching address. One thing you might check — see if you have the option to pay through PayPal?

I’ve found that companies stop caring about the details once PayPal says its okay. and pays them.

You could probably use your old address information after that, because as long as the games get paid on the regular, I’ve found that they don’t much care where you are, so long as it’s a major, same-region country like the US or Canada.

Basically, they regard it all as “PayPal’s problem” so long as they’re getting paid. :-)

I’ve used PayPal for years and never had a problem with them. I find I actually like not having to hand my credit card info out to dozens of different places on the internet.

Good luck!

If you need a laugh, check out the positive review of the Australian update on Steam, that the guy wrote entirely in Australian slang. It’s pretty bloody funny!

Cheers,

everytime i have the urge to play more ffxiv i remind my self that i lost the will to keep playing before my last month sub time ran out because of all the side quest filler i don’t care about and having to spend several hours every so often running back and forth across the entire world map over and over. and all the forced dungeons and forced solo stuff tuned for dungeon gear and all teh gating on stuff like dress up play and the fact that once i hit vanilla endgame i’d have to do every single quest they added after launch before i could do the expansion content.

and then i’m like sorry cat girl waifu but i can’t play with you anymore. QQ miau.

I would not be looking forward to starting from scratch if I can’t canadianfy my old account. The story quest chain is long and involves doing instances like the chimera people no long do and I’d have to relevel all the working jobs back to 50. I had every craft, botany, mining, and fishing at 50. And I’d lose my collectors edition mount and fat chocobo!

yeah that doesn’t sound pleasant at all. idk. too much of the game feels like pointless busy work to me. and i have no interest in it’s raid or die endgame either.

I love their crafting system and chocobo races, but it took me months to get all my crafts up and hours and hours of morning coffee sessions.

yeah… ><

it's a shame they chose to gate everything fun about the game behind such heavy grindfests and forced this and that and the other thing. in general the gating in the game is intense all around.

I didn’t mind it, but it’s not something I want to repeat though.

The Morrowind announcement got me back into ESO. Going through a new play-through with my first alt.

The one Tamriel changes make it nicer to roam, but it appears that some aspects of the game can come at me out of the original intended sequence.

I finally found a headset that doesn’t feel uncomfortable, Sennheiser Game One, and the sound all feels new and shiny too.

I’ve been looking at those cans myself. The only thing I didn’t like was that it didnt seem to have a dedicated microphone. I’m not a caster I don’t want a pro level external mic.

we got our community center to level 3 this week in archeage, only to watch it bug out when the server crashed last night and reset to level 2 only 2 days into the 15 day level 3 timer and without paying out the cash banked from vendor sales in the zone as promised. QQ i suppose i’ll have to file a support ticket or something? i dun wanna deal with customer service qq

also finally got motivated to jump in to sc 2.6.1 and have a go at PU now that i figured out my stick issues. the combat is definitely alot better now and PU pirate AI seems less retarded to boot – they now seem smarter than the arena commander ai in any case. apparently they put alot of random shit in orbit around yela too i wanna go check out with my buddy that plays.

also jumped into ghost recon wildlands open beta this weekend and having a blast. i think everyone who tried it in guild has decided to buy it so that’s nice, as archeage activity has died down alot and we haven’t really been even doing the twice a week funsies things anymore. >> i also find some of the complaints of it odd like hearing ti performs badly cuz according to fraps i’m getting solid 45-60+ fps on default settings which look quite good. on 2600k and 970 gtx. even while streaming to twitch via obs. tho one of my viewers complained the fps was choppy and looking at obs it looked like that was having issues for some reason but tbh obs is wonky af at the best of times anyway >> anyways we really liked it and the different possible angles to approach any mission and need for good team work and coordination adn communication, plus not having the rpg stuff from div which proved to be a pitfall later on for us.

anyways video share is from wildlands this week. we take on a unidad base to interogate their commander. we actualy did this one the night before while drunk and it rekt us pretty hard. had a much better go at it yday afternoon lol https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h2Q64IZIfqQ

Not much. This and that. I’m just waiting around for next weekend’s Path of Exile league, and the release of the Nintendo Switch.

the switch is vaguely interesting to me as a possible distraction thing while riding in cars on highways which normally gives me pretty bad ass anxiety. but it’s a bit pricey for that when i will be upgrading my phone soon (and will have apps again as blackberry progressively works with less and less apps even tho it can emulate andoroid apps – except all teh droid apps i use added google drm to them so they don’t work anymore QQ).

as well i guess idk nintendo’s recent history with their console’s life times is not getting me to trust them that they will support this for a good while. plus lack of third party games. plus what i’ve heard about their mobile device battery lives ( or lack thereof).

I want the switch so bad to play Zelda. Huge fan of Zelda, but it’s like 580 Canadian for the system a second controller and the game if I recall right…fuck that noise. Costco had a ps4 bundle for 325 one game(uncharted) and two controllers. And the non-pro ps4s are still on sale in places.

I’ve always disliked the Nintendo experience when it came to peripheral costs. It doesn’t help that they can keep a premium price on their games for a long, long time.

i thought about getting a ps4 for my mom to use as a smart tv thing a couple years ago, but then the nvidia shield tv came out and that was alot more attractive looking at that price point, considering my mom isn’t really into console style games but google play store might have stuff she likes.

in the end i bought her a roku stick so she can marathon her shows featuring people talking in british accents she likes so much. XD

For the console gamer, PS4 offers the most bang for buck with their monthly free games and large library and sales. For the average person, less so. But if you need a mini computer attached to your tv with a blu-ray player, it wouldn’t be a bad buy. More so with the PSN Vue as a cheap option for cable tv in the US.

I’ve landed a nice apartment, so today I’m playing the finding furniture game. PGO and Ingress as I travel between places.

Glad you got settled safely! Here’s hoping you make your save against overpriced and/or shoddy furniture!

(Speaking of which, I’ve been really disappointed in the few things I’ve bought from IKEA — shoddy workmanship, mostly — so I’d suggest giving that place the pass)

Good luck!
