The Stream Team: EverQuest celebrates 18 years!

Last night’s stream was aborted thanks to Twitch’s issues, so we’re giving it another go tonight at 9 p.m. EDT!

It’s happened: EverQuest has left childhood behind. The fantasy MMO turned 18 years old today and finally enters adulthood. And what do you do as an adult? Well you party, of course! There are plenty of anniversary activities to partake in — including pub crawls and drunken gnome racing — and Massively OP’s MJ is diving right into the thick of things. Join us live at 9:00 p.m. to take part in the celebration with her.

What: EverQuest
Who: MJ Guthrie
When: 9:00 p.m. EDT on Thursday, March 16th, Friday, March 17th, 2017

The show is over now, but we’ve embedded it here just for you. Don’t forget to check out past streams and playlists posted to our videos collection!

Oh and also, your froggy was kililng those dorf guards via an innate ability called Riposte, which fires off randomly if you are facing the mob (plus a few other conditions) and damages them.

Plenty of “old” people played EQ. I was 29 when it released, but I routinely played with a 65 year old shaman who liked to relax by killing the ogres in Lake Rathe. On another server I made great friends with a couple who were in their late 60’s, and we had a server wide funeral for someone who passed in her 70’s.

And nothing more awesome. I LOVED the open agro in EQ. Why shouldn’t a band of orcs, chasing an elf, who then disappears, not spy others closeby and begin whaling on them instead? That’s good AI. This “running back to my starting spot and /goto10” crap really sucks. An orc should be aware and dangerous no matter where it is, or whom it chased, etc.

Wow. Hard to believe. I was right there 18 years ago making one of my first mmo characters. A Dark Elf Necromancer. :)

Troll SK, still my favorite character ever.

High elf paladin for me, I think. I remember stepping outside Felwithe and my jaw dropping at the trees stretching away into the darkness. I got lost so much in that bloody forest.

I think the first character you roll might be somehow revealing lol. Wood Elf Druid for this Scot :) making my way down the treehouse in Kelethin and exploring the Faydark (all names that I loved) was unforgettable, my first true MMO. Diablo and 4-player didn’t QUITE count.

Half Elf Druid for me, struggling for a while to get into it. Then I got fleeced by a rogue who lured me to my death on the promise of riches, which I knew was rubbish but I wanted to see where it led. I had to consent to his moving my corpse to safety and instead of moving it he looted it. I had nothing of value but asked him what he was up to and he replied “I’m a rogue, what did you expect?” That was pure role-playing and suddenly I could see the game’s potential – I was hooked!
