Black Desert’s South American edition will launch as a buy-to-play MMORPG, Portuguese-language website MMO Vicio reported earlier this week. Redfox Games will host servers in both Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese. The studio writes,

“Since announcing Black Desert Online for Latin America, we have received thousands of questions about this game. Today we finally want to answer one of your questions: It will not be free, nor will you need a subscription to play. In order to play, you need only pay once for the game. In addition, you can buy several aesthetic and convenience items.” (Translated)

Redfox has also confirmed that it’ll begin “pre-sale” for the game soon.

That’s going to sound familiar to North American and European readers, as under Kakao’s wing the game also launched here as a buy-to-play title with a hefty cash shop tacked on, but it has since added an optional subscription to complete the trifecta and weathered multiple pay-to-win controversies over its first year, not that it seems to have hurt much.
