Guild Wars 2’s expansion is slated for not long after the end of season 3, likely this fall

During today’s Guild Wars 2 Flashpoint AMA, Mike O’Brien confirmed that the long-teased expansion (yeah, the one that leaked out of every possible culvert this morning) is indeed on the way following the end of season three.

“We announced that today’s episode, Flashpoint, is the second-to-last episode of the season,” he wrote. “Yes, that means what you think it means: there’s one more episode after this, and then straight to the expansion pack.”

And how soon will that be?

“[T]his time around we have two separate fully-staffed teams that are both hitting on all cylinders. So our rough plan is to slot the expansion pack into the release cadence as if it were an episode: episode 5, then episode 6, then the expansion pack, then episode 1. But we’ll make some allowance for the fact that shipping an expansion pack is a big deal logistically and will probably take longer than the 2~3 months we normally allocate between episodes.”

That’s pretty soon — somewhere in the early fall range by our count.

TELL me that Anet cares about their network when THEIR IN HOUSE DIAGNOSTIC TOOL SHOWS MASSIVE NETWORK ISSUES.

Massively OP is ignoring a pretty big story.

Apparently MOP’s ‘insert picture’ doesn’t work as intended.

Go figure.

The storyline in GW2 has now been heinously wrecked. ask any GW1 OR GW2 fan who is really into the story and know it’s taking wrong turn after wrong turn.

The inconsistencies in this new chapter alone are going to destroy any faith in the storytelling from here on.

The game is being abused from within.

The TOS agreement denies the right to get past any of the GMs who lie to customers and refuse to acknowledge massive network ignorance.

Not a single traceroute to GW2 servers can complete.

NOT ONE.

I don’t really play GW2, but that’s not unusual. It’s a pretty common practice to block Ping and Tracert traffic at a certain point.

Blocked?

By their own diagnostic tool?

You really don’t comprehend abuse by game WITHIN games.

It’s THEIR TOOL and it CAN NOT COMPLETE WHAT GW2 STAFF SAYS WORKS WITHOUT A HITCH.

WRONG ANSWER.

Go use the tool sent by customer service then be told it’s all your fault – ArenaNet is a horrid company that hates its users.

It may be true that they’re awful. I don’t know about their support or their tracert tool, but I’d be surprised if they had a tool and didn’t just give you a reference to a 3rd party tool.

As someone who works for a company that provides monitoring services for IT departments, Data Centers, etc….I’m rather familiar with network routing and can say, without a doubt, it’s normal if you run a tracert and can’t see some results especially the last couple hops.

The way that ping and tracert send data can be abused. Many companies make the choice to block this traffic at certain points for security reasons.

It’s an in-house tool sent by customer support.

When the tool doesn’t work, doesn’t complete or doesn’t even START they blame the USER.

I am a computer expert, I am more than ‘familiar’ with what SHOULD and what SHOULD NOT work and if ANET sends a tool, tells the user to send the info BACK and then DENIES the result, WHICH THEY DO, then that company is HIDING MASSIVE ABUSES WITHIN.

If you don’t trust their suggestion then I’d recommend using 3rd party tools to investigate and prove it’s their issue which as an expert should be fairly easy and only take a few minutes.

If you’re able to collect data that shows it is their issue (even though that is not something a user should have to do) then then they’d likely resolve the issue.

If they still ignored the problem you’d be able to share your finding with the wider community and bring pressure to bear on them or look at legal options.

With all the naysaying, you can’t possibly play the game.

And if you don’t, why in the WORLD would you post anything here in the first place???

Reader

I previously told you that I don’t actively play the game. I posted because it seemed like you are not familiar with networking and may be shooting yourself in the foot by taking an event that is a common network security feature and using it as evidence of a problem.

Such a thing could prevent you from getting a resolution and I assumed you wanted to find a solution. As someone with extensive experience dealing with in the field. I thought I might be able to help you get to the root of the problem.

However, since you clearly do not wish to find a solution to your problem, I will refrain from providing any such assistance so that you are not further offended.

I did all the testing, screenshots galore, Anet has no care for its game or the people playing it.

I brought it to reddit but Anet has MANY who can and DO shut down any posting on problems of THEIR program.

Anet, ruled by an ignorant NCSoft, is out of control and heinously abusing players and its network.

Expect an E3 or Gamescom unveiling

End of November is my guess. I say they go 3 months to episode 6 from right now and he said that the x-pac will probably take longer than the 2-3 months which would put it at the end of Novemeber or December.

We have a reasonable chance for more info in a couple of weeks. During the conference call, one of the Korean executives could reference it, in terms of plans or in response to a question. There is a huge difference between revenue realized on Sept 30 vs Oct 1. Even if western PC games are not as strategic to NCSoft as they once were, a GW2 expansion should be at least an incremental 10% of NCSoft’s revenue so the analysts have to be modeling whether it happens in CY Q3 or Q4. Certainly on the Aug call and probably May, I would expect some sort of guidance.

On track with many players’ expectations. I’m just glad the content droughts that happened with HoT do not appear to be happening again.

I haven’t really been thrilled with this Living World season, but hopefully ANet can deliver something good with the expansion. I hope they learned the right lessons from HoT, but my experience with the LW so far says they didn’t.

I hope they learned the right lessons from HoT, but my experience with the LW so far says they didn’t.

Care to elaborate?

A lot of players (and I) have the feeling that Anet finally hit their stride. Releasing maps and story on a pretty tight schedule, being extremely transparant about what they are working on and the distribution of their team. And the consistent release of PvP and PvE content (sorry WvW :( )

“So, we just killed a dragon, what next?”

“TWO DRAGONS.”

It’s just… boring oneupsmanship rather than good storytelling.

You’ll be happy to know that’s not what’s going on in the last story episodes, then.

Not everyone will be pleased I suppose. But a lot more people are happier with the way things have progressed with the LW after HoT than those that aren’t.

Great news for the PvE and Raid folks. WvW is all but dead at this point it appears and Kessex Hills has gone 1103 days without clean drinking water. Just saying.

Haven’t looked at the leaks much, but hope to hell the next expansion has a MUCH stronger start than HoT. Anet shouldn’t have stumbled the way they did with HoT, especially given the relatively little content initially available in it, and I honestly don’t think they can really survive another controversial expansion like that without seeing some pretty deep cuts this time around.

Still hoping for good news with the expansion, but I’m definitely not terribly optimistic right now.

That was pretty much expected, six episodes and then expansion. Hope they’ll manage to get it out before christmas.

And with those leaks… gotta admit, it’s pretty exciting.
Especially if it’s as good as the new map which is just phenomenal.
Get better rewards than minipets though. They’re boring.

The Light on the new map just seems horrible… idk. Otherwise they made a pretty good map out of old assets. However the update maps still lack a ton of detail.
