Rumor: Guild Wars 2 leak reveals expansion masteries, locations

New images suggesting sweeping changes coming in Guild Wars 2’s next expansion have been released into the wilds of Reddit.

As usual, we’ll be tucking the whole thing behind spoiler code in case you really do not want to know. Read on if you do.

Click to reveal expansion spoilers
The huge batch of images appear to show a partial set of new masteries for most of the classes, maps covering a large span of the Crystal Desert from Guild Wars 1 (including Vabbi and the Desolation, so we’re in Nightfall territory), and mounts. Yep. Mounts.

As to the provenance, welp, it’s either legit or an outrageously convincing and elaborate hoax. They don’t contradict leaks from last fall either.

Should probably take the banner picture down and change it from the front page if you are trying to avoid spoiling people…

Personally I thought it took some brass balls for MassivelyOP to post that image in the banner, now that they’ve removed it I lost a little respect for them.

Nice to see mounts added. The lack of mounts was always an immersion breaker for me.

We go North! To Vabbi!
And for real this time! More or less.

No personal housing: what is this non-meta trash? Where’s my doll house for my human females? At least they’ll get get a pony.

A game that has like 10 /emotes isn’t going to add Housing.

They DO NOT care about that kind of stuff.

This game still thinks it can become an “e-sport”

Reader
Bruno Brito

They can’t, i don’t think they think that anymore, but they can’t really take their heads outta that line of thought.

I’ve kept up with a lot of the leaks over the past year, real and fake alike, and I felt this one was legit enough to tip. It has that air of plausibility this time around.
Strangely enough, someone made an extensive text-only leak the other day that was interesting and convinced enough people to manipulate the price of an item on the trading post. It’s considered debunked now, but I was able to sell off some excess quantities to make a quick dozen gold for a material that would otherwise be sold at vendor price.

I’m glad I made Astralaria after seeing the first elite spec leak many months ago. My mesmers are going to be splendid with it.

The set of images look quite real. and with all legitimate leaks, I’m curious about the source: who for what reason leaked these?

I haven’t gotten goosebumps reading GW2 news since Colin and Mike were on stage at PAX South announcing HoT. It all went downhill from there starting with the announcement of new legendaries turning into a “handful of new legendaries” which then turned into, “Look guys. There’s 3 new legendaries, but thanks for pre-ordering already.”

I got legit excited looking through all of that. Now I am tempering that with remembering how much good will they squandered with me and HoT. Legendary Armor is only coming out today guys and it was a back of the box sales bullet point for HoT which was released in Oct. of 2015. Think about that and temper your expectations of what they end up saying and IF(big if)it matches their actions.

I’ll be getting this IF(big if again)reviews from friends are favorable. I will not be pre-ordering after how terribly I feel they treated their customers with HoT initially being released. I think they kinda made good on it later, but that was more them realizing they effed up majorly.

Obviously dont click on the big button that says “Read More” if you dont want the spoilers.

As to whether or not Massively should publish stuff like this – as long as they do it in the manner they have (clearly labeling it as spoiler and reinforcing that it is still rumor), of course they should. At this point, these images have been posted across many different sites on the Internet. Writing about a rumor (especially one with such overwhelming proof) is very appropriate imo and something I would expect from Massively.

Barring denial by Anet, this looks extremely legit – and, if true, is pretty exciting.

Well the map itself is a spoiler and cant be hidden. But thats about the only problem I have with such articles.

It’s legit because it doesn’t have anything related to WvW in it. :P

Savage, but true.

Used to be my favorite game mode and the reason I logged on and now I can’t last more than a couple hours once a month. Also the reason I only log on to GW2 once a month unless it’s the two days every quarter I play through the story bits and new zone.

Reader

Unfortunately, I haven’t logged in for over a year now – their wonderful “support” of WvW is why :/

Reader

With an enormous amount of will power I am not clicking spoiler tags.

Whether what is in there is real or not I really hope that it doesn’t kill folks interest when Anet do reveal the stuff officially. I hope there isn’t any “oh we have seen this already show us new stuff.”

Reader
Manastu Utakata

There doesn’t seem to be much in the way of lore spoilers. More class, content and technical stuff. Some which I can right off the bat would be quite controversial in its own right. Hippity-hop-hop… o.O

Reader

Now I’m pleasantly reminded of the Peter Cottontail song. <3

Reader

Why would it, if you were going to buy the expansion to begin with why would you need the foreplay?

Reader
BalsBigBrother

Please bare in mind that I haven’t looked at what is revealed so I am going to talk in broad terms. So if you do reply please have that in your mind and don’t reveal any spoilers, ty :-)

If you are going to buy it then you will buy it regardless on that we will agree. However not every will be 100% decided, therefore the presentation and context on how information is given to them is an important part of any decision they make.

Without context what is up their could well look meh to some folks and they now cement in their minds that well I am not interested in the expansion and that is a lost sale.

Reader
Bryan Turner

I would not dream of even talking about the contents in the comments let alone in a reply to you as that would be thoughtless.

Reader
thatlanteshguy

Aaaaaaaand just like that I’m interested in GW2 again. A sniper looking class with mounts? I’m in.

That’s a pretty huge leak. The problem is that this kills momentum for ArenaNet and the time frame between reveal and expansion release. Maybe they say now: “Let’s just reveal everything.”

Journalists should:

– Take responsibility for the accuracy of their work. Verify information before releasing it. Use original sources whenever possible.

Did you at least reach out to anet BEFORE posting the story Bree? Very disappointing. I know criticism isn’t very popular here but this isn’t the first time IT APPEARS that massively has rushed to put out an article that breaks an NDA for a major MMO.

Bree is not subject to the NDA because she never signed one. This is published under RUMOR. An ethical violation would be publishing this as a confirmed fact when we know it has not been officially confirmed. Journalistic integrity remains intact. Relax

Reader
hugmonster

Most likely massively has not signed an NDA for this bit of news so they are under no obligation to keep quiet about it, especially since the information is already out everywhere online.

In this case, the news being reported is that someone has put up information and claimed it to be a leak, not the content of said leak itself. The validity of the contents is unknown, but someone certainly posted it.

Reader

I happen to know a Beta tester that confirmed it.

Interesting, but they’ll need to prove this expansion is nothing like HoT before I give this a try.

Reader

I wish I could say the same, but GW2 continues to be the game I want more than anything else to love and keep giving it chances. I’ll probably put this <.<
