Shroud of the Avatar is free-to-play for most of May

Shroud of the Avatar is running another free trial — quite a long one! It’ll run from May 10th to the end of the month. “This will be the longest test so far of the system so that we can gather even more data about uptake, dropoff, conversions, etc.,” Portalarium says. As usual, free players are restricted from trading, vendor use, property ownership, open PvP, and offline mode. You can pick up a copy of the game through the download page on the official site.

The trial is the highlight of game’s latest newsletter, but there’s plenty more to snoop, including the team’s work on Bloodriver Outskirts, weapon rewards from the last telethon, plans for the summer telethon, a housing contest and a writing content, and finally, a peek into Novia Market, one of the game’s player-run villages.

brother did the same thing. Download the trial and it is closed. either they can t deliver on may tenth or it will be at the end of may tenth as is usual for these devs to try and bait folks.

Either way, I warned him this wasn’t a free trial but a sad little piece with tons of restrictions. He is set in his ways though. Heh.

Couldn’t get it to run last free trial but I will update it and see if I have any better luck this time around .

As usual, free players are restricted from trading, vendor use, property ownership, open PvP, offline mode and playing the game. Enjoy logging in and walking around!

Hoping Pantheon ends up looking half this good. I remember a year or so ago when Shroud looked just totally horrible graphics wise. Now it’s pretty breathtaking in places.

Hated every moment trying this game.

Gave it a go the last free weekend they had and wasn’t a fan. I’ll wait until they get a proper new player tutorial in place (I’m a super madbad casual scrub) before giving it another spin.

Until then I’ll just enjoy the nice screenshots and stuff.

Nope not even for free at least for me but I do hope anyone who does give it a spin has some fun.

Eesh; too many restrictions! Why bother? I can see screen shots right here on Massively without wasting my hard drive space or my time, and it will be about the same experience either way.

Are they never wiping then? Has this thing soft launched already? Besides restricting gold farmers and PvP griefers, I can’t think of any other reasons for all these limitations that will only serve to frustrate rather than draw in new players who try this game.

Did you ever play demos back in the day on CDs? Concept is the same — and is a lot less restrictive than the hour or two of play you’d get from them. Just for perspective’s sake.

Much like Project Gorgon, a free trial is always appreciated. May have to check this one out.
