Ashes of Creation optimistically posts $3M stretch goal

Now that Ashes of Creation has surpassed $2 million in community fundraising, how far will the game go before its Kickstarter campaign draws to a conclusion? It might seem far-fetched that it will add on another million by the end, but the team is ready for this if it happens.

Optimistically, Intrepid Studios revealed its stretch goal for $3 million raised, saying that it would factor in a stock exchange if this milestone is reached:

[The stock exchange] is a very in-depth system that relates to how Nodes, Player Guilds and Social Organizations perform in the world. This will allow players to invest those communities through the form of a stock exchange that will measure certain metrics to determine success or failure around the world. If a guild fails in a raid, shareholders in that guild may see a drop in it’s value. Or if a node advances in activities and trade routes leading to it, the shareholders may see a spike in their dividends. Social organizations such as the Thieves Guild may see community quest points achieved throughout the world and different chapters being built in nodes across the realm, resulting in a higher valuation.

$3.5 Million stretch goal is building your own MLM business within the game.

Hey, $3.5 million isn’t cheap! lol

And you thought you were yelled at for not performing well in a raid before! Now you have to worry about what the stockholders think.

“Mingledorf. If you can’t pull 250k dps on this boss fight we are going to have to fine you.”

“Fine me? I thought I would just get kicked from the raid group but a fine?”

“Yep. When you joined the guild you signed a performance agreement where you agreed to all target dps numbers set by guild leaders in exchange for first pick of raid loot. With that came a rider clause for a 10 percent penalty for every point under dps target or else you have to pay the guild, at the first of the month, in cash. We accept Paypal.”

Meh, sounds good as a concept but most concepts do until implementation. I’d rather they not spend time on this until the core game play and other systems are in place.

It might be good to build the hooks and such that they would need for it but your right I wouldn’t want to roll this out right away as I think they will need a lot of real game play info to make it work.

O.K. Kickstarter campaign, I think we’ve had enough

Don’t think this game is for me now. Good luck to them.

That squeaky balloon sound you hear is all the hype leaving the room. They should just make a good game. If this is something they think is a good idea or something they want to spend the time and effort to develop I’m not even going to bother.

Next up at 4 million, the Federal Reserve.

“Failing on a raid” impacting the Guild financially sounds like an uber-hardcore feature to me. The game is probably not for me, my focus is on the social/cosmetic/RP stuff.

In the abstract, it’s a pretty cool idea. If we kill the dragon, we get its head mounted in the town square and the mead flows freely for the next week while the people rejoice. If we fail to kill the dragon, it ravages a bit of the countryside as punishment for our impudence.

In practice, assuming a competitive raid circuit like WoW’s old one, it could lead to serious pressure and yelling, well beyond what’s fun for me.

you’re right that would be interesting. But I think they were speaking of a financial impact to the guild for failure, not triggering a ‘wrath’ event (which would be sorta awesome in an UO way). Your ‘in practice’ observation articulates my concern.

Depends on how it is implemented. If the penalty is a high risk high reward option, but only an option, it could be a welcome addition.

Social/cosemtic/RP stuff could be good regardless. We will have to see.

You act like rpers aren’t going to be in this game. The social and rp aspects of nodes are enough to draw rp-pvers like myself in and with the stock exchange goal you can rp a stock broker. I’m not seeing what’s wrong with this.

Or is it a case of “Stop liking what I don’t like”

All rpers are not afraid of new ideas and pvp. Please stop fueling stereotypes.

I fail to see how the word “me” is plural, and feeds a stereotype. Have a blessed day. :)

I think more optional “stuff” in a game is almost always good. Seems like this is something you could always avoid if you don’t like it and it could be fun and yes even add to the RP opportunities within the world. Maybe even give a whole new endgame playstyle (could you devote your time to just investing and stock trading and make tons of money like that?) Sounds interesting…

Your last sentence does not seem to follow from MM’s comments but whatever.

It’s all good MM, one day we will find our OWN glorious PVE-only MMO.

And it will have Blackjack… and Hookers.

And SOME people won’t be invited.

“The game is probably not for me” You trash talk any game that has open world PvP so this game is Definitely not for you.

Reader
rafael12104

Trash talking? Saying a game is not for you is talking shit? Heh. Don’t ever play LoL or Overwatch. You will be in for a rude awakening.

Reader
Melissa McDonald

LOL please. What trash did I talk here. saying “probably not for me”? Devs need to hear feedback from the community. One voice, one vote. Feel free to cancel me out. Or did I just cancel you out? :)

I like this idea. Not sure if they’ll make it, but either way, pretty cool =)

Reader

Indeed. I don’t think they will even hit 2.5 mill. But the 3 mill goal is an interesting idea :)

Reader

Success breeds success, they should be able to pick up another 500k in two weeks but another million hard to say.

Reader
TheDonDude

I have to admit I kinda hope they don’t hit this one. It sounds really dull, and for me at least it’d be a bit of a turn-off if “play the stock exchange” becomes the optimal way to make cash.

Agreed. I don’t want the possibility of financial success or failure to dictate whether my guild should attempt a raid or take other risks. Sounds really terrible, honestly.
