Cross-platform social sandbox MMO Pixel Worlds comes to PC next week

Tired of cutthroat guild politics, giant epaulets, and lens flare in big budget MMOs? Point your eyeballs instead at Pixel Worlds, a game Finnish dev Kukouri is calling a “social sandbox MMO.” It’s porting over from mobile (where it apparently has a million players) to Steam for PC and Mac players next week on June 9th. And yep, it boasts cross-platform support.

The trailer gives a cutesy overview of the type of pixelized sandbox content players can engage in, from building and exploring platform race levels to farming and trading.

“In Pixel Worlds players join the ever expanding pixel universe by creating their own worlds using hundreds of different building blocks and materials. In total there are already close to a 1000 items ranging from furniture to clothing items, with more added in updates every few weeks. The game economy is run by the players themselves, meaning there are no fixed prices nor limits and trading is done while bartering through the in-game chat system in player-designed marketplaces. Players are free to explore other worlds, create platformer levels for others to play and participate in Live Events in order to win some in-game goodies.”

Check out the PC launch trailer — anyone ever tried this on mobile?

Growtopia should look into where these guys got their code if they can, seriously :D But hey, those original ideas are so hard to come up with! Anyway way to copy every single detail down to the smallest bit and just change the graphics and call it your own creation. I do like the better graphics of this one at least.

Never heard of it before, 2D MMO? i’m in, i’ll try anything different than the usual, i want to see a good 2D simple MMO, even combat-less one, hopefully someone will design 2D MMO in style of Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past.

Well, it’s 100% a copy of an older version of Growtopia. Like exactly, the interface, everything down to the smallest detail in the game engine. They just made their own improved graphics but stole everything else. It’s so very close to an old version of Growtopia it makes me suspicious as to where they may have got the code, but I guess it’s possible they just copied it in every single little way, except for the newest most improved stuff that’s been made lately in Growtopia. Some of the newest most fun stuff they haven’t copied yet. It’s also a crazy expensive “free to play” game. It started out semi reasonable but every week they raise the prices on the new stuff to just silly amounts. $34 to change your skin color to blue (if buying the biggest most discounted gem packs, much more if not), $136 for a jetpack (again if buying the highest most discounted gem packs), they just have gone crazy with the pricing on the new stuff. In Growtopia you get to change your skin color to many different ones after just spending a little bit of money. Sadly they didn’t copy the stuff like that.

Both of these games look like cheap knockoffs of Terraria though :)
