Rumor: Dark and Light is launching this summer on Steam

Chinese website 17173.com reported yesterday that Snail Games’ revived MMORPG Dark and Light will launch as part of the Steam summer sale (rumored for June 22nd-July 5th), a claim that seems to be backed up by a new trailer for the game floating around YouTube.

It was originally intended to launch in the fall of last year, as we’ve previously chronicled. Earlier this spring, the game’s Chinese branch apologized to players for “again” making the decision to extend development, thereby delaying beta (and presumably our early access) until (at least?) summer, though most recently Snail pegged early access for “later this year.”

“…that Snail Games”

Nope. Burned once, twice shy.

Snail Games are making so much money on terribly pay to win heavy mobile titles now I’m surprised they’re still looking at any PC stuff.

Their mobile stuff is actual pay to win, not just something with a cash shop so that people assume it’s pay to win. This is stuff where you pay $500 to beat the freebies and lose to the people who are paying $3,000 and so on and so on. The people you were dominating one day go and spend a few thousand more one night and are kicking your rear the next day and you’ve got no recourse other than either losing or paying up yourself.

They have some cool games with good mechanics for mobile actually that start out really fun (such as a major Age of Wushu mobile version in Sword of Shadows) but they’re super heavily PvP based and sadly all about how much you spend. There are many skills and cool concepts but skill doesn’t matter in the end, your wallet does.

People are spending on those games too, big time, so much I’m actually surprised they’re still looking at PC titles at all.

Sorry i just wish it wasn’t Snail games behind it. Does anyone remember how they abandoned Black Gold Online.

The coinciding with this and the pull back on Snail game’s other game(Ark) in relation to cancelling Primal Evolved and shelving further development on Survival of the Fittest seems not coincidental. Both games have been using the same outsourcing small studios around the world for development so seems they’re prioritizing all of this more towards the new game for fresher revenue generating.

The fact that they have stated a goal of ~100 players per official server pretty much ruins this as an MMO to me. I may play some if it has cool features, but it’s not really an MMO. It’s more or less in the same spot as Ark, with a few little differences.

Little differences? Ark doesn’t have tons of tamable fantasy creatures or magic/spells/shapeshifting and a fantasy setting with city hub safe areas lol

I played the fk out of Ark but all they ever do is add more broken content to a broken game. Starting out it was fun with the primitive style of stuff but the end game is giant metal buildings and c4 and guns..not really of any interest to me :(

This is higher up the want list than Bless Online bit lower than Ashes of Creation, Crowfall, Camelot Unchained, Chronicles of Elyria, MU Legend and Lineage Eternal. I guess what I’m saying is this is a filler.

I’m excited to check it out!

Me too! It’s might turn out to be a big disappointment, but at least it’s something new to try, that at least LOOKS interesting. I just can’t muster any interest for any of the current MMO’s right now.

Didn’t they say that last summer?

Please choose the tail end of it. Between TSW launching the 26 and a few other games having updates etc. in that window as well, I don’t want another MMO that I want to check out cluttering it up! Oh well, if nothing else I’ll get it all downloaded and ready for whenever I’ve got some time to play it down the road.

That volcano looks strangely familiar. Oh, and Lotro called, they want their Argonath back.

Yikes. That’s just straight ripped off.

agemyth 😩

Well, I feel like I’ve seen something some might consider a rip-off of the Argonath in numerous games or movies.

Let’s remember how far back the ideas of Tolkien have been inspiring other artists in one way or another :P
